Moment of truth for super skins?
old skins will go down, new will go up
new is always better, unless new will look horrible, then old skins will go up
either way, don’t invest into SAB weapons
I got a GS, when they were going for 40, then before SAB ended in april they went up to 80, and I didn’t sell it. Now it’s 20g…I still have it. It dropped while I was doing SAB chievs…
Ouch, I didn’t even know they had reached above 40 gold
So I guess general consensus is to stay away?
Surely supply will be in peril eventually if they don’t bring the old ones back.
Lol wot… anet said those old skins arnt comming back … that means they’ll go up in price… they are making a new set of skins for the up comming sab. I believe someone asked why there was no axe or dagger or rifle skin. Those arr probably gonna be the new skins. And I believe that anet responded saying that the old skins arnt comming back. So invest if you’de like. Might be worthwhile
if they dont come back this time around, prices will go insane in the hours following the patch. If they do, I think prices will end up settling in the 5-10g for the popular ones (sword, gs, staff, shield). Pricing of the new ones (if there are any) will depend on what happens to the old and how good they are.
Everyone that wanted one already bought one or got it with SAB.
nobody is buying them, there has been the same number of them for a year and the same price…
I actually think they will go up because people want matching stuff. That said, I wouldn’t bet my money on it, just as I didn’t do it back then.

Agreed.
Depending on whether or not the old skins are reintroduced I can see speculation driving the prices of the skins up again too.
Josh Foreman did say back during the first release of SAB that he believed the old skins wouldn’t come back.
BUT…
He did add a caveat that he wasn’t the guy in charge of rewards, and that his answer was based off a quick 5-minute conversation in a hallway, so we shouldn’t take his answer as gospel.
Secondly, the fact that the Winter’s weapon skins (along with probably the Fused/Sclerite skins in coming days) are now available again tells me that ANet may have changed their strategy when it comes to limited time skins (which is an approach I approve of). Therefore, I think the odds are still in favour of the Super skins being available again when SAB returns, although there will also be newer skins to complement the old ones.

SAB skin acquisition was/is significantly different than the RNG box skins though. While I’m sure the sale of them has been profitable, I’m not sure that the distribution of their rewards was very high. (It’s anecdotal, but the amount of people I saw running around with RNG box skins was a fraction of the SAB skins.)
The scelerite ones in particular weren’t in BLCs and the crate drop rate was so terrible you practically had to buy them from the gem store, which probably alienated a lot of players from obtaining them. Even with their re-release they cost multiple BLC scraps/tickets (RNG) so they’re still not easy to obtain, but at least the option is there.
Conversely, SAB skins were so easily obtained that the extra ones that dropped saturated the market. I think if they reintroduce the original SAB skins under the same system that the existing ones may go the way of the Wintersday toy skins in terms of a massive price drop. There will just be so many of them and no reason to ever purchase them from the TP, especially with SAB being recurring content.
I’m not in favor of limited/one-time-only content either, but if they’re going to reintroduce the previous skins I’d prefer they did it at the 1 year anniversary of SAB and not with this upcoming release. Give investors a chance to at least break even and reduce the amount of supply available.
“There will just be so many of them and no reason to ever purchase them from the TP, especially with SAB being recurring content.”
Aye, that’s true. But it WOULD allow players who hate SAB (yes, they exist, and apparently in quite large numbers) but who still like the Super skins to be able to obtain them relatively easily. Then again, my ideal MMO is one where every player can acquire the look they want without breaking their bank; making yourself stand out in an aesthetic sense comes down to choosing a unique or unusual combination of armor, weapons and dye rather than just going for whatever’s the most expensive. (If you’ve played GW1, you’ll know what I mean when I say that one out of every 3 Monks I saw was wearing Obsidian Armor and Chaos Gloves, usually all dyed black or white.)
Allowing investors to break even on their investments is also something that doesn’t win a lot of sympathy from me, I’m afraid. That’s the nature of investing in something; you could either strike it rich, or lose it all when the market changes. If you want a shot at the big bucks, you also have to be prepared for big falls.

I totally agree with you.

Well, it’s less about the investments and more about reducing the supply. Unfortunately, a precedent of “exclusivity” among weapon skins has already been set. Despite the new availability of previous skins their rarity is still being preserved through the amount of tickets it takes to claim one. I see no reason why SAB skins should be any different. I doubt there’s any hope for the Wintersday toy skins (unless they never make a comeback), but SAB skins could still potentially hold the same amount of value as any other skin depending on how they’re handled.
SAB skins are a lost cause. I invested about 300g several months back but quickly sold it at a loss of +150g now.
If I held on to it I would have lost a ton more.
There are simply too many appealing skins in this game to entice buyers to go pursue these old skins.

It would just be really good if we could get a heads up as to whether the old skins will be coming back in the (predicted) coming SAB content, hopefully when they announce the content they’l say.
The next SAB skins will be sold for 10 black lion claim tickets and 20% of your childrens gold earnings after you die.
But seriously I’d love a dagger pistol or focus, they could use themes from metroid/megaman for the pistol and some 8-bit wolverine claws for a dagger.
Same. I need a pistol & focus for my mesmer (to match her SAB sword & GS) and a pistol & dagger for my thief.
They’ll go up in price when doubters find out that the old skins aren’t coming back. I suspect their price has remained low because people think they are coming back. Hopefully the 15 or so skins I have listed at high prices (that people were paying back then) will finally sell.
Endless Petrification Tonic
If they don’t come back they will absolutely go back up in price. People wanting matching weapon sets (it’s surprising how many people didn’t get to do SAB last time) + a new batch of speculators who will probably start buying them.
There’s certainly enough gold in the economy right now that the SAB skins are very affordable. I’m biased, but aside from the Zenith weapons I think the SAB skins are the best looking in the game and they’re also the cheapest by a decent margin.

i didnt do it last time… because i quit for 6 months
There definitely will be new skins that include axe and dagger as the screenshots for today’s look at next week’s patch are up in the screenshot section and include a picture of a character holding the axe and dagger (though the dagger is mostly cut off).

I don’t think we’ll see the old weapons. This will allow you to complete your set if you played last time. I might be wrong but I remember a quote saying that the old skins would probably not be back next time (referring to this time)
