The mystic forge conduit’s price has recently leveled out and is currently fluctuating around 11-14 gold. This item’s price has sharply increased recently, but the price leveling out makes me think people don’t understand its full potential. This item is no longer obtainable in game. Those who have once obtained it are the only remaining people who have it. This item is tradeable and its value will sharply increase in the upcoming years. Look at most other MMOs. They all have items that were available at launch that soon became vanity items when they were taken out of the game. This item is on track to do so. I recommend any person who can get the gold to purchase one because it is a good investment. Look at the original guildwars for example. Wintergreen items had no stats and their value rose significantly when they were taken out of the game. If you want more proof look at the economy of any MMO. Opinions?

Imo it’s main use is for mystic forge recipe hunting; you can easily check trophies & other random materials as see if they work with the mf which can help tons for figuring out a few of the hidden recipes.
It’s second use is for saving inventory space or saving money/time for when you’re gambling with your common drops.
Both are quite optional true, but it’s hardly worthless.
I use my forge all the time in the field mostly for combining 4 greens to try to get a yellow, or combining a couple of useless runes to see if I can get something better. I also use it to see what items are indeed Mystic Forge-ingredients, so I can save them for later. I expect that recipes for the forge will multiply over the years also.
Having said this, it is certainly not a must have item; a permanent banker, Trader or merchant is way more usefull. Also, as long as the Conduits will stay tradable, I do not think the price will really skyrocket, since there is quit a large pool to go around.
However, as soon as Anet makes a change so that the Conduit will become account-bound after first use, then the market will dry up fast and prices will really go up.
I am happy I got one, and no way will I sell it for 14 gold!

You can do all that at the regular MF without lugging around an extra item. There’s also a fan site that’s been figuring out the hidden recipes so there’s no need to do it yourself. Why pay 11+G for something that can easily be done for free while providing no tangible benefit other then saving you some loading screens?

While the supply of forge conduits is currently fixed, we have no assurance that there will never again be a way to obtain forge conduits, via another temporary forge recipe or something completely different. A new way to acquire a forge conduit would crash the price of existing conduits hard.
In my mind there is a ton of downside risk in the price trajectory of the conduit as a result, and it’s not an item I’m willing to speculate on because of it.

Even if only 1% of the game wants this item, or .1% the supply is extremely limited and over time as accounts get banned and people stop playing the supply will dwindle even more. Over 1 million people have purchased guild wars and even if only a small percent want this its value will increase because there is no way for them to get any new ones. That is my take. Opinions?
I do agree that it’s “vanity” item, and I actually use it whenever I need forging – instead of walking to forge. Cool one to have, sure. Necessary? Not at all.
But I also do think OP has nice stock of them for sale, and due the fact price has gone down a bit, he’d like to pump it up again to get some gold off from all those relatively cheap ones he bought during these few days. Had I not wasted my gold in halloween madness, I’d stock few of them myself too.

So you’re telling me that the MFC is a better inventory saving method than gaining 30 inventory slots when the MFC requires you to have several kinds of items that go together in the right quantities to even use and if you have more “junk” than you need to make something in your inventory, it’s still going to be taking up space after using the MFC? Right. Do not confuse “Blue collar players” for players who aren’t impulse buyers.

Personally, I don’t leave a spot until my bags are full. So if I can combine random trash to get yellows, then I can stay at a spot longer, and when I actually do have to leave, it’s with more yellows than I had. I find it extremely useful.

Of course they aren’t mutually exclusive. At no point did I ever establish that. You clearly missed the entire point. MFC is a total waste of money if you’re looking for saving inventory space. Making that your main selling point is just dumb. Thus, my comparison does not “mean little”.

The benefit of “saving loading screens” is entirely a sufficient one for me to own a conduit. I have one and I don’t intend to sell it unless I have good reason to believe the price will decline sharply.
Having a Conduit means that, for one thing, my character can live in Rata Sum, where the bank, TP and crafting are closer together, without the need to go to Lion’s Arch should I ever need to use the Mystic Forge.
It’s primarily a luxury convenience, but in the long term it’s also going to be saving you money, because every bit of time saved is time you can spend earning more money.
My opinion is that I don’t want to see any more posts here or on Reddit by the people who made a long term investment in these items and are getting antsy with their money tied up. They should’ve known what they were getting into.
The price drop when Halloween started already showed that a significant amount of conduit owners (or 1-2 big owners) got impatient and wanted to have their gold at hand for the seasonal fancy stuff. Might happen again on Christmas.
If current price doesn’t suit someone then let them wait a few more months to sell their conduit. Or rather, just keep it for years while accumulating worth. That’s their best role I think. Of course, doing that is a statement that you couldn’t have turned that money into more money by keeping it moving.
Let me say a few words for all the people who really want to jump on this hate for economic discussion bandwagon. Just because you viewed a post on this forum and maybe another one regarding “pump and dumps”, does not mean that every forum post speaking about potential investments is a “pump and dump”. I have owned many mystic forge conduits and have sold many as well and just to clarify CURRENTLY I DO NOT OWN ONE. So please stop pretending that my post is an attempt to raise the price of an item I own. What I was hoping to do with this post was not to increase the price of an item I own and quickly sell it, but discuss with people a legitimate investment idea. If your only goal here is to give yourself a power high by flaming my thread, please leave. If not I would love to here all viewpoints even those disagreeing with me. Also, in response to Ksielvin’s comment regarding people quickly dumping theirs, I believe that it is true and that is why I posted this thread. I wanted to promote legitimate investment for this item in the game instead of the price constantly crashing and rising.
Note I didn’t claim yours was one of those posts. I was already sick of the posts from before, maybe because I actually browse some stuff that doesn’t reach Reddit front page. A hint of accusation can be inferred but I will only apologize that I’m not going to apologize for casting a suspicion.
As for the investment discussion you wanted, there’s currently a really healthy volume of the items in trading post. Most original buyers stocked up at 6-8 gold I’d assume. Price peaked at 20g maybe and is down to 13g. Good for them. My crystal ball is showing me pictures of puppies and kittens but I can’t really see beyond max 100% return on investment in 6 months if buying now, and that just isn’t enough for me.
I don’t usually do many long term investments in the first place but the Halloween stuff seems better at the moment, and smart money is probably preparing for Christmas and New Year instead.
