Mystic coin rising again?
Big patch is coming. Someone knows something we don’t if I had to guess.

looking longer term still ridiculously cheap though, not much use for these coins, weird given anet has time gated their supply
I can’t remember what caused the spike to 15s back in january ’13 and I am really curious what will happen during next few days, if the price keeps rising or settle at usual 1s – 1s50c value.

Big changes to dailies, plus that was around the time when the recipes for legendaries were finally getting publicized (and thus clovers were being created en masse). Furthermore, there were fewer players playing back then, fewer people doing dailies, and a number of other things. There is no way, short of new huge supply drains, to get these things to any semblance of real value again.
Anyway, thanks to this thread a lot of people are buying these, driving the prices up and up. Whee.
55k mystic coins gone within the last 4 hours. I think it is gonna be interesting soon
I don’t know, I have a stack of about 150 in my inventory haven’t really had a need to buy them. My guess would be that more people are going for a legendary, or those in the speculation market, are hoping for new legendaries to be announced with season 2, and are hoping to cash in on the higher demand for coins when it does.

Remember the big buy-up of quartz before a patch a while back? Ended up being all for nothing. I’m definitely not jumping in to hoard these since nothing official has been stated. I might actually sell those that I have :P

I made a small fortune during that buy up by unloading my hoarded stash. I rebought my stash right after the price crash for less than half of what made selling it.
I remember someone here saying he crashed and burned on mystic coins. The supply is pretty much infinite.
the supply of bolts of damask is also infinite.
mystic coins are actually much more finite than, say, platinum ore.
if the price for mystic coins goes up to 1g @ 100 million demanded, you can’t really fill that any time soon (probably would take around a year)
if the price for platinum ore goes up to 1g @ 100 million demanded, that could be filled within like 2 hours because everyone would be farming it as quickly as possible to capitalize on it asap.

So, there I was grumbling last week when I had to pay 80c a pop, now they are over 1s20c.
Personally, I have been using them to create mystic forge weapons, which have become more desirable since the wardrobe came out. If that’s what is driving the market I would expect to see coins drop back down eventually.
For me the big test is going to be about a week from Season 2 starting as more casual players return to play living world, because at the moment there is a relatively high proportion of players grinding out stuff.
The reason why prices for mystic coins are rising is because nobody is supplying them; if you haven’t looked into a bit of economics, if you have less supply, the item will go up in price, and the demand may or may not get higher, when the supply is far less than demand, the market is broken until supply gets fixed. Reasons why coins aren’t being supplied is because people stopped doing their dailies or are keeping them instead of selling them. People have adapted that if you PVE in this game, you suck, and as such, doing the daily is not even half as important. This is what happens when new content stops coming out; people just stop caring and leave the game or do something else.
I’ll be surprise it rise so much in 2 days, if not for speculation.
Even if someone bought a huge amount, must be really tuff selling all of that without getting TP error.
Moment of truth in a few days.

Might just be speculators at work. There’s been a few whispers going around that r500 Jeweler or Chef is coming with this patch (rumors with no evidence, for the record), and maybe somebody thinks Mystic Coins will be needed?
Crown Pavilion farming has a lot of players building legendaries and/or converting surplus skill points into weapons to sell. Both legendary gifts and Mystic weapons require coins.
I seem to remember the same thing happening during the Aetherblade farms.
