Does anyone know of a way to check the availability of a name or whether or not the way I want to spell/space it out breaks the rules of character naming?

I have a character named “Gee Rat Illuminatus”. I want to change it to “G Ratt Illuminatus”. I’m pretty sure that it’s not taken by anyone else but what I’m not sure about is whether I can have "G " as the start of my name.

If anyone knows, it’d be great. I’m really hesitant to spend the 800 gems. Maybe I could get a refund if it doesn’t work out?

To check, just add the name you want to take on to your friends list. It will tell you if anybody has it.

Well that’s true but if it has been taken or not useable in some other way I’ll still be out the 800 gems.

You can make a new character and try to use the name, then delete it and buy the name change contract.

The added benefit of that is that you reserve a name for 24 hours after you delete a character, so you have plenty of time to make exactly the look you want, secure in the knowledge your name won’t vanish while you do. At least it worked that way at launch.

I had 5 names I wanted. I created characters as fast as I could click “skip to end” and entered the name. Then through the weekend I deleted and remade them with loving care. I still have the screenshots of those random race/profession/appearance characters to compare with what they ended up really looking like.

I’ve seen toons with names like “B O B” so yes, you can use a single letter in your name. Any combination of standard letters and spaces, no numbers or #%! and not sure about fancy characters from non-English keyboards.

All caps, spaces between. You will be fine.
