Need Insight into Thick Leather Sections
I know I personally had a pretty severe brain fart before the ascended armor crafting came out, and I bought 30 stacks of Thick Leather Sections. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people got disgusted by the fact that they also had the same temporary insanity and wanted to be rid of them. Not to mention that leather just comes from more stuff, at least in my experience. I am rolling in leather, even without the stacks and stacks and stacks I bought like a fool.
Leather, compared to Cloth, is only used in 1 armor profession as a major ingredient and in 1 weapon profession as minor ingredient.
Cloth is used in 3 armor professions as minor ingredient and in 1 also as major ingredient.
You could also craft elonian leather since asc weaponcrafting came out, so when asc armorcrafting came out, most medium armor players, already had enough to craft their armor, compared to damask.
Also, the bottleneck for leather consumption through elonian squares will always be rugged leather. Thick Leather will simply be useless, as long as its consumption is based on elonian squares because there isnt enough rough leather in game.
Mithril has a huge sink in crafting lvl 80 weapons for the forge.

I assumed it was easier to obtain but based on the wiki it seems relatively similar sources. Leather from medium armor, 6 salvage items, and 4 Loot bags. Silk from light armor, 4 salvage items, and the same loot bags as leather plus one more for a total of 5.

There are plenty more lootbags that drop silk and thick leather, which are not listed on the wiki. Those dont have anything to do though, with the price difference. ITs purely related to their consumption in ascended crafting.

Thanks. I was on break during the release of ascended crafting so I didn’t know the order of release so the bit about weapon crafting makes sense to me now.
Nor did I consider the mithril for weapons and other things for the great MF flush.
Just hope for future leather uses in the future that can be huge sinks:
-Capes
-Precursor crafting books
-Trader Merchant for BotW

I’d even take a return of the Zephyr Sanctum so I can gamble those useless squares away.

Pretty sure thats what they meant by BotW

I guess that could be “Bazaar of the Winds”. I didn’t put that together until now.

Fixed it for you.

@John Smith
Found a gold sink to replace armor repair and trait reset without having to reduce champ bags.
Mounts!
Edit: Saddles for leather sinks.

I think what you are missing out on is character level. Remember, loot scales to the individual as much as possible, but characters can’t go past level 80. So as a level 80 running around a level 30 zone, the bags you find will be dropping mats for level 30ish items, but the weapons, armors and so on will mostly be between 75-80. As far as I can tell, its the same thing that keeps Mithril ore down below the 50c mark. The only thing keeping it from being as depressed as leather is the fact that it is used by nearly as many crafting disciplines as silk. Even then, I never really expect to see it break the 30c mark it hovers around, short of a massive Living Story requirement.
First Wanze talks about lore, then suggests mounts
Is this real? Or did you he get hacked?! How uncharacteristic…
Next we’ll see suggesting the removal of TP fees and 5G waypont fees !

Just taking the jibby on mounts.
And i play the game a wee bit, so some lore sticks.
Might even do some pvp after the patch. Just to check out the new rewards though, to estimate how it will influence the economy.

since the PvP bags will be effected by MF I suspect there will probably be a pretty big influence on some markets.
Maybe this new Balthazar back piece will take a PvP recipe and 10,000 leather scraps.
The answer is way more basic than that. All your fancy explanations won’t help, until you understand one basic fact. Two out of three classes that use leather – ranger and engineer – are unpopular PvE classes. They always have been.

That certainly doesn’t help, but leather is also used far less than the other base materials in crafting recipes which is a huge part of the oversupply problem.

Some of it is also a function of open world PvE salvaging… playing in the 68-80 range and salvaging yields just wayy too much thick leather and mithril.
Same thing goes for people salvaging 68-80 rares for ecto… you can create a stack of thick leather and mithril in no time.

check the material. For example a full set of tailor ascended armor need 36 bolt of damask and only 6 elonian leather square.
I’m not sure if you guys are just sadistic or like the guy in wolf of wall street and want to raise the price. But I surely don’t enjoy the silk price.
I also bought a ton of thick leather back in the day, but I sold it when the price went up to like 14c each because it didn’t seem like it was going anywhere.
ANet should probably swap the requirements for Silk and Thick Leather for the Ascended mats around.

I’m pretty sure mithril is cheap for one reason : the high-level zones are crammed with mithril nodes and you can salvage it from virtually everything except light and medium armor.
5G waypont fees !
Only if they sell a Gem Store item that allows for unlimited free WPing.
Oh wait, did I just suggest a pseudo P2W item?

What??
I will give you this for engineers, but rangers?? Nope ..
Rangers are the most common class I see everywhere in open world PvE. Yes, they are very unpopular for dungeons, and the more difficult bosses, but this has not stopped players from rolling them. They are one of the best solo exploration classes in the game. My ranger is the only toon I have done 100% world on, something I would never do on many other toons.
The thing with rangers, is that any kit beyond exotic is an utter waste of time and gold. The reason being the ranger pet. So, rangers do not contribute to the demand for leather beyond exotic.
Beside who even crafts exotic any more?? It is cheaper to kit an lvl 80 medium armour class buying on the TP, or using badges. I did this for my new lvl 80 thief – full set of zerker armour and 5 zerker weapons all with badges, and I still have over 500 badges left. I bought trinkets off the TP.
