I saw many Posts complaining about how all new weapons or armor that have been added to the game have been through the Gemstore, so here I will be compiling a list of all items in-game that are there now that weren’t available upon release. Please if you have corrections or additions let me know.
1) Legendaries (I don’t believe these were available immediately, think they became available in October)
2) Halloween items (1 new amulet, 3 new semi-legendary weapons, devil horns helm skin, Witches hat, Wizards hat, Deathly Shoulder skins, Grinning ghastly shield, Gourd Rifle, Chainsaw sword, and greasword, Severed dagger, and Scythe staff skin.)
3) Lost Shores (Fractal Weapons, and a new stat type with passiflora and settlers, 2 new back pieces, Consortium axe, focus, shield, sword and helm)
4) Wintersday (Toy and Candycane weaponry, and Ascended Armor)
5) Frost and Flame (Guild weapons for commendations, Savage backpack, elegant backpack, Fused Gauntlets, and Jetpack)
6) Super Adventure box (8-bit Weapons with a variety of color options, New back piece)
7) Dragon Bash (New helm, 2 new backpacks, and a whole new set of jade weapons, polla accessory)
8) Sky Pirates of Tyria (Monocle)
9) Bazzar of the Four Winds (Three new Helms, Five new Back pieces, Zenith Weapons, Radiant Armor, Hellfire Armor)
10) Clockwork Chaos (New twisted watchwork shoulder, Champion loot boxes and the various new weapon skins that came from them)
11) Tequatl Rising (New Backpiece, New Tequatl ascended weapons, New waterbreathers)
12) Twilight Assault (New Backpiece, and New weapon set)
13) The Nightmare Within (New Back piece, New Helm, and New Aquabreather)
14) The Origins of Madness (Wurm Helms Shoulders and Glove Ascended added, Annelid Rifle Skin)
15) Escape from Lion’s Arch (Several new back items 3 when fully upgraded, Scarlet’s rainbow, kiss, and veil)
16 Gates of Maguuma till now (3 new helm skins, Ambrite Weapons, Mawdrey backpieces, and the flames of Balthazar back piece)
I believe this is most of the items, with this we can see that many weapons have been added, but not very many new armor skins available in game have been added, especially new armor for these areas Chest, Leg, and Feet are very rare.

Were the Island Shoulder skins, Mask Skins and Weapons Skins drop from monsters or did the consortium chest only come from the Gem Store I cant remember?
For the 2012 Halloween Ones I didn’t include them because it required 2 boosters and 3 mystery tonic to make a mad king chest which I believe were the only way to acquire them? and the three weapons I was referring to were the Crossing, Mad moon, and whatever the Spider gift bow is called…

The Wizards Hat and Polla were 0 gems and the Witches Hat was obtained from participating in the Mad King Says event (or maybe the other way around..?)
Not 100% sure, if they were obtainable without gems but i think so. During Wintersday, you could also buy BL Keys with Captains Council commendations.
They were. One of the hats was made for free by talking to the Mad King while he was in LA and the other was for participating in his Mad King Says event. I could be mistaken though but the wiki should say how they were obtainable.
A big one you forgot.. with the patch that introduced champion loot bags, a bunch of new weapons were added as exclusive champ bag weapons, things like Bonetti’s Rapier and Entropy. Not only was that one of the larger collections of new skins added, it was also attainable for most players through normal play rather than funneling them into specific and/or temporary areas.

Which was promptly removed because Lyns was effectively paying you money.
I had a hoard of Commendations for Lyns and used them in round 2 to get 250 use Kits which I still have. I can never go back to 15/25 use Kits. Shudders
I also have 250 use Gathering Tools, not that I ever use those. Yet my main has infinite tools, so… go figure. The only 250 use I use is Mystic Salvage Kit.

Nice try at defending the gross imbalance of new armors available in game vs for $$$ in the gem store in a game that prides itself on horizontal progression as end game, chief among them making your character looking “unique.” I guess your next argument will be that you can buy gems with gold?

Some of the items in the list either have terrible RNG rate, so you get it either by luck (teq weapon, fractal weapon). Or some of the items you are more realistically gotten them from gold(monocle, scarlet kiss, which is actually cash shop related since gem→gold).
I think people are more looking forward to the reward system SAB have. Where people acquire items by actually doing the content without having to rely on RNG.

We have that with dungeon armor and weapons. And Zephyrite weapons. The game has always offered a mix of ways to get skins.

I don’t personally care that much myself.
But dungeon weapons and Zephyrite weapons are exactly what I mean. Though most people probably have the dungeon gear they want 1 month into the game, and Zephyrite was some AP grind, AP armor etc.
but ya, those are the type of rewards people are looking for. The others are more or less things you bought with gold, or RNG rewards with very low chance.
Me personally, I just don’t find the content all that interesting anymore. Though I have a good fun for a year.
