New Pick & Future Mining
It does say “Mines every metal” on the item in question so it is quite likely that you will be able to main any new ore that might come.

No one knows for sure, but since the description on the pick says used to mine ALL metals, I think it probably should work.
Ok, thank you for your answers.
No.
‘’This dredge tool has unlimited charges and the same efficiency as an orichalcum mining pick’’’
If it does work in future nodes i would be surprised :P
No.
‘’This dredge tool has unlimited charges and the same efficiency as an orichalcum mining pick’‘’’
And both the Orichalcum and Dredge mining pick quite clearly states: “Usable/Used on all metals”

I’ll be surprised if there ARE new tiers of metal. I’d much rather they produced new 1-80 campaigns than bump the level cap.

The molten pick is featured as a mining pick with the same efficiency as an orichalcum pick, and like it, they both share the same tooltip – used to mine all metals. I can only assume how they programmed tools, whether they’re flagged to be able to gather specific nodes or if they’re based on levels, but chances are, if the pick was to be upgraded, they would have to intentionally go back and do so.
Since they’ve pretty much confirmed that there will be new tiers of gear, whether it be a rarity above or in between ascended, or level 81 items, the odds of seeing new gathering nodes is highly likely as long as they want to continue with allowing people to craft gear without requiring group content or large requirements. With the release of ascended gear, they did after all say that it was normally something they would only do in an expansion, so this isn’t GW1 with eternally static gear.
If they want to continue crafting, there’ll have to be something new eventually. However, what they choose to change could go in any direction. For example, they could just multiple the requirements, requiring something like 200 orichalcum bars and 200 powerful blood, or they could make infused ore, such as combining some drop with orichalcum. Since they probably wouldn’t want people to obtain the new items instantly however, chances are, some type of new item would be required, whether it be a drop off a mob or a new type of gathering node.
When imagining future lands, I wouldn’t exactly expect to only see the same old mithril and orichalcum in places such as the deep sea or ring of fire. However, they could simply add the tier in between the existing ones, in the same way they added passion fruit to southsun cove.
Regardless of the future possibilities, chances are the pick will come back again, but with a different skin. They’ll probably release an infinite use sickle and axe before then, so it probably won’t return for around 2 years or more. If it was a money making idea, especially one of Nexon’s, chances are it won’t upgrade because they’ll want you to buy another one next expansion. If they did intend for it to last forever however, they would probably be featuring it as such, since it would sell even more. I highly doubt it won’t make a return at all though, since the profit from it is probably a lot.
If it was forever limitless, if you only wanted one save gold, chances are, you’ll never recover the cost, especially if you currently use karma to buy tools. The pick is only a convenience item and for collector’s to show off in a few years, when new people won’t know what it is.
Without an actual confirmation, or a glimpse ~6 months into the future to see what direction they take, whether it will upgrade or not can easily swing either way.

They’ve already confirmed that they won’t be going with the campaign approach and will rather be doing more traditional expansions, similar to EotN.
There is already a discussion on this, it’s pretty much all speculation about any new materials being introduced. The tool says used to mine all metals, period. What that means for future possible metals is an even higher unknown.

EotN didn’t add to the level cap or really add any new tier of anything though. Nothing that I’ve seen has implied there’s even a chance for a new tier of crafting mats. It’s hard to imagine how they’d manage to shoe-horn that in with the current crafting system. They could just run roughshod over the current setup, essentially destroying the current top end, but that seems unlikely to me.
The only thing currently pointing to higher tier nodes in my opinion is the fact that ascended gear will be craftable. At least that’s my assumption based on it being available in the crafting window.
Of course that’s weak evidence – it’s likely materials would come in other forms than mined nodes.

Is that a fact now? I missed the upcoming update notes for that somewhere.
Agree on the second point though. I highly doubt they will introduce new tiered materials for ascended gear. They’ll throw in something like frac relics (/em shudders) or laurels.
Oh, and that “Yes” post was sarcasm to the quoted useless post.
They have no desire at the moment to add new tiers of ore, nor plans (right now) to do so in the future.

Adding a new metal and not allowing the pick to work on it would kitten such a comical amount of people off (which they know) that I don’t see them doing that.
It’s not like they’re setting out to intentionally make people angry.
Considering it’s worth 800 gems/$10…it better be used for mining any future nodes.
An official response would be great. My main’s going to have one, but if this is up in the air I’ll pass on buying additional picks for my alts.

What I said before is as official of a response you will get.

Bolded for emphasis. Ascended is selectable at crafting stations, and that much is fact. And as I said just below, that is very weak.
Regardless, this is a very moot point. I’m sure mining picks would work for all new tiers, if one were to even exist. People are wondering about a hypothetical here. What I’d really like to know is…why soulbound.
I agree account bound would have made sense… and i’m certain they’d see at least a slight increase in sales doing it that way. But, there are people buying them for many of their toons, so i might actually balance out. The bad thing is if they decided to change it after the fact, people that bought multiples would be outraged.
i’ve already talked about tiers, but it occurs to me, knowing a thing or 2 about programming, that the ascended tick mark in the crafting window could just be pulling from a list of item types. This doesn’t necessarily reflect that they plan on added recipes to crafting for ascended gear.

Given that I bought four, and could likely break down and get another 2-4 before they’re gone, I’m just as certain that setting them up as “one per acount and done forever more” would NOT increase the sales.
Yes, I’m the bad man who keeps encouraging them to do these things, but on the other hand I’m also the guy that actually proved willing to kick in 40$ to further development in exchange for a shiney (x4). Is it the best deal for players possible? No. But its a deal I find reasonable and support.
