A couple of months ago I got my 5k AP reward, which included 400 gems. I’m thinking of buying a sixth character slot, and I was thinking I could just buy $5 worth of gems and get the slot. Unfortunately it seems I’d have to buy $10 worth just for the 400 gems I need. Is there something I’m missing, or am I going to have to earn 10k AP/convert 50 gold to get my last 400.

There is no $5 choice because they want you to overpurchase the amount, leaving you with a balance which entices you to purchase more.

The best choice is to convert gems to gold to cover the remaining portion.
