On the Plummeting Value of Lodestones
Charged lodestones dropped a lot because of the deadeye farm as for the rest probably this.
Is it because of Champion boxes? People finding a bunch from them and undercutting?
There will probably be a steady decline in prices since champ boxes are so easy to farm.
Don’t discount the skillpoint exploit. Started plummeting much more after that.
I also think alot of players sold their small amount of Lodstones they had to generate funds for crafting ascended.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
The number of lodestones required to craft stuff hasn’t changed, so the “value” of the lodestones is unchanges (if anything Crystal Lodes are a bit more valuable now that the Runes of Perplexity use them).
What’s changed is the supply of lodes and especially cores has skyrocketed. Its simply easier to make some of the really high end stuff.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Whats this now?

combined with the elonian wine bug you would’ve had to be really dumb to convert during that time unless you had stockpiled wine for some bizarre reason.
Since the Champion Boxes Update I looted a lot(compared to “not a single one” before).
For example Charged Lodestones and Cores.
Before the Champion update they only dropped for me while farming Air Elementals or doing CoE.
And now i get them in boxes while playing whatever i want.

Their drop rates from temple chests also seems to be buffed but I’ve been doing the temples more often so that migth be skewing perspective. On the other hand I would imagine there are also other people doing temples more often for the dragonite as well. Even if the rate hasn’t be increased more people doing the temple events means more cores/lodestones will be generated too.
You know what? Cheaper lodestones is a good thing. When Charged lodestones were over 3g each it was honestly just stupid.

^ Agreed. I, for one, am loving the reduced prices for Cores/Lodestones. We’ve seen a shift in the value weightage of materials needed for high end crafting, away from stuff like Lodestones and more towards normal materials. This is good because it not only makes Lodestones easier to access, but also helps boost demand for normal mats that would otherwise languish at 1c above vendor price, and just build up to ridiculous oversupply on the TP.
I would still like Charged Lodestone to be slightly cheaper though. It’s currently bouncing between 1g98s to 2g ish. Too many things I want need Charged Lodestones and they’re simply too hard to farm for.

Well I’m sure we all want lodestones for free. Fact is the price discrepancy between charged and the rest of the lodestones is due to demand.

I wish Charged Lodestones were 4G again, so I’m happier whenever I get one.
I got a lot of stones during the invasion. More than I’ve ever seen before. The large increase in supply could explain the drop in prices.

it doesn’t need to be free.
Personally, I find farming ridiculously dull; but if people are willing to do it and sell, great, it’ll benefit me and the farmer. It just sucks that Charged Lodestone is not exactly easy to farm for, so supply is already not high but the demand is.
people complain about over-priced lodestones and Anet needing to put a price limit on the TP, etc. now that they do something and the prices go down, people complain?

Certain people want them for free, not cheap. That’s why when the supply of Charged Lodestones quadrupled, and the prices only fell by a third, the complaints kept coming.
I think charged lodestones were ridiculously out of sync with the prices of other lodestones. I think a reasonable price is somewhere in the range of 1 to 1.5 gold. I applaud Anet for increasing the supply of them.

That’s because some people speculated and lost on lodestone prices. This will happen during any major price shift. And they really only have themselves to blame. Anet had mentioned that they would increase chances to get lodestones on at least two occasions.

Charged Lodestones are required to a large number desirable high end crafts. That means the Demand for them were high, thus the reason for the prices they went for. You may personally like cheaper Charged Lodestones, but for people who were selling them for nearly 4 Gold a piece, they’ll beg to differ.
Well, the big questions is, will the prices return to where they were before the invasions??
Why would they? The prices may creep back up, but the champion trains produce a pretty substantial number of bags, the bags have cores & lodes, the excess mats enter the market.

Why should they? The drop rate and the # of mobs in game that drop that specific lodestone are probably the same as any other lodestone. Drop rate/supply is not the contributing factor to Charged Lodestone’s price.
I reckon it is largely based on demand, considering the numerous, highly-regarded items that use Charged Lodestones.
You may want to pay only 1 to 1.5G but there are many more buyers out there who are willing to pay much more than you do, and the suppliers are more than happy to sell to them.

Supply is always an important factor in the cost of any commodity. Whether you are happy or sad about it will not change the fact that the supply has gotten a significant boost and this has caused the price to drop from nearly 4g to what it is now.

It’s the same on the opposite end of the spectrum though, some people may only want to sell them at 3g or higher but there’s a large enough amount of people that are content with getting a smaller amount of money for their lodestones. Prices change, for better or for worse it’s just what happens.

Buddy, you forgot about Champ bags that drop them like mad. I am getting core and lodestone on much higher occasion than ever before. (Not like they drop like dandelion, but good amount) If you do champ zerg… well… you get a lot

yup. got a guildie who likes to flip the market on many things. saw him talking about how the charged cores he bought at useless now.
i beg to differ. they do what they’re supposed to do, they just didnt net him the profit he wanted, but that doesn’t make it useless
They’ll spike back up whenever they put in craftable precursors…

Champ boxes.
People are getting cores, and lodestones that they previously had to farm a certain type of mob for, or run a certain dungeon and hope they get one in a chest.
(this is a good thing)

it is a good thing, I dont want to stay in the same place farming the same mob again and again for some core or lodestone.

Agreed. Especially when the drop rate is so low and now that MF gear no longer exists
