Recently was lucky enough to get a Permanent Hair stylist contract from a black lion chest.
How much are they worth?
How rare are they?
How much could I except to sell it for?

How long ago did you get the contract? I thought after the feature patch they removed it from the loot table of the blc.

Thanks for the tips! I just got it yesterday. I sold it for 2700 about which I thought was reasonable. I was surprised it sold so quickly.

that item was 5000g at one point of time. 2700 is considered cheap

Wait, those still drop ?
Last time we had an announcement that they were put back in the loot tables from July 29 to August 12.

lol They wouldn’t take them out of the tables after nerfing key farming. It’s one of the better draws to obtaining keys…ie more incentive to buy keys.

Wait, those still drop ?
Last time we had an announcement that they were put back in the loot tables from July 29 to August 12.

The Permanent Hair Stylist Contract is now a very rare drop from Black Lion Chests for the next 2 weeks only.

It was supposed to only be available for the 2 weeks from the feature patch as noted in the patch notes. Instead, they left them in the loot tables and everyone who bought one during the two week period expecting them to not be available anymore are now left with having spent way more than necessary on them since they continue to drop.

Judging from Gaile’s response in this thread, I’m guessing that Anet leaving it on the loot tables is intentional. I just hope this doesn’t become a pattern where they state a time frame for things from black lion chests just to drive up prices when in reality, its going to be left permanently so we should all just wait for prices to settle down instead of being artificially high.

It’s not just that item. The August 12th notes on the chaos weapons implied they would only be available for one ticket for 4 weeks. However that was changed to September 30th. As of now, September 29th, they are still one ticket.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-12-2014
“New Chaos weapon skins are available for the next four weeks from Black Lion Weapons Specialists for the introductory price of one Black Lion Weapon Ticket. Black Lion Weapon Tickets can be found in Black Lion Chests.”

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/taimis-dye-kit-and-new-permanent-gathering-tools-in-the-gem-store/
“Also, this is your last week to take advantage of the introductory price of our Chaos weapon skins!”

Anyone who bought chaos weapon skins was affected by this.

i dropped almost 4k gold on this thing during the 2 week period, not that i need it, but because of the exclusiveness, and now they keep dropping, along with the price. is this a kittening joke from anet? does anet think it’s easy to gather that much gold for a single item? if so then i got nothing to say about this game.
to all the players reading this that don’t give a kitten , enjoy getting ripoff by anet in the future.

To me, it looked very much intentional. My guess is that they saw some players starting to artificially rise the price, as 1-2 Contracts dropped per day, tops. Buying them for 2k Gold, putting them back in at around 5k. Probably a message, a slap in the face, for all those trying to mess with GW2’s economy.^^’
PS: I bought mine for 1999g. Never was so happy before in Guild Wars 2. Thanks ArenaNet for giving me the chance to get this wonderful Item!

My wife just got one of these from a Black Lion Chest as well within the last week or so. We’ve both been playing since launch-ish with thousands of hours invested and we have yet to find a precursor so this was a welcomed drop for sure. She sold it promptly and we’re using the gold to help fund her Bifrost.

Wait what? The buy price is at 2600g currently, and you say anyone could have it?

You know most people don’t own a legendary, right, but want to? And that for 2600g you can craft almost any legendary you want?

No item should be “sacred” in any event, that would be really messed up. Some things can come close to that, if they are items that can only be obtained through the display of extraordinary skill (e.g. winning a PvP world tournament). But certainly not some random drop from a black lion chest, that’s simply bunkers.

Which I agree with but Anet shouldn’t have said that it was only going to be available for 2 weeks and then just leave it on the loot tables when those 2 weeks expired.

I wholeheartedly agree that Anet should not have done it in this manner. I believe they should have simply announced it was back in the loot table to stay. And I’m very glad they did just that, in the end. Were they allowed re-introduce it in this manner? Well, it’s certainly not pretty but according to the contract we all signed, they most certainly can. But let’s not forget the end result here. It’s a really nice addition to the chest’s loot table, and a fun item that players truly appreciate.

I was never one of the lucky ones to receive one (I tried really hard though!) but I’m glad for those that did and still do.

2600 is the sell price.

And why not? An item that is absurd enough to let you change your hair any time you want which normally you would need gems to do so should be a considered a sacred item.

Do you even know how many of these hair contracts flooded the game in the past few weeks? It is cheap as kitten now when you look at its entire history. Its value was equivalent of a legendary and perhaps slightly even more, now it’s only half a legendary, or less than half even.

The main issue is that a lot of people bought them at prices that were artificially inflated because Anet announced it would only be available for two weeks. If they had instead announced that it was becoming a permanent part of the loot table much like how the other three permanent contracts are, there wouldn’t be an issue. As I believed that it was only available for a limited time, I had even bought gems specifically to exchange for gold to buy it as the expectation was that the price was going to jump again once it was off the loot tables. If I had known previously that it would be available permanently, I would have just made the gold the normal way from playing and from the TP and bought it when I had the available gold. It almost feels like it was a bait and switch of a limited item to get people to buy gems to trade for gold to be able to get one.

As anyone in my guild could tell you, I have spent way too much money on this game as I do buy a lot of gem cards to buy stuff off the gem store. I keep the gem store and in game economies separate except in this one case where I believed that the Permanent Hair Stylist would be gone after two weeks so traded gems for gold to ensure I could get one in that time period.

I think what you’ve described others doing — buying things to horde and resell at a profit — is not something which supports a healthy economy or a positive experience for new players. In economic terms, the price is not being determined by use value, but rather by speculation — in this situation, I think ANet is probably doing the right thing in providing additional supply. You got the item you wanted at a price you were willing to pay — it’s not clear you experienced much harm, other than knowing that you could have got a better deal by waiting.

I’ve occasionally lost out through changes in the market (e.g. with the battle for LA, they reintroduced some drops which I’d been keeping in the hopes of selling at a profit) … but I have to say I think that was a positive experience for more players than the ones hurt.

My view may be tainted by posts like this one, though:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Permanent-Hairstyle-Contract/first#post4264536

… where it certainly sounds like some people were willing to try to manipulate the market. I think you’re basically SOL if you attempt to manipulate the market, and ANet decides the result isn’t what they want. They can always change the market.

Hehe, I have 3 of these listed!!! Imagine the horror I am going through right now. Just kidding on the horror part. Even though it currently sucks for me since a huge chunk of my money is stuck, I have to say that I have invested quite generously in other sectors of the economy as well and which are doing quite good

Diversification is the key.

Been there, done that. What’s next?

As I’ve stated before, I agree that the Hair Stylist Contract should be permanent. I only disagree with how Anet did it with advertising it as a 2 week limited drop and then just leaving it there. If they had stated from the get go that it was now permanently part of the loot tables, it would have been excellent.
