Last night I thought of an idea that I think is a great idea for player satisfation and possibly a nice money maker for Anet.

Idea: Leave whole armor sets in the BLTC as is for 800 gems but add a piecemeal option for individual parts of the armor for 150 gems each.

Example: The new Zodiac Armor. I have seen quite a few people wearing this armor, but lots of people hide the helm. You could buy 5 pieces at 750 gems (saving 50) instead of either not using the helm skin or always hiding it. Personally, I like the legs and feet of the armor but not a fan of the rest. If Anet offered the 2 pieces of armor for 300 gems I would buy them in a heart beat.

I took a flash /map survey last night before the LA event and most people who responded said they would definitely buy more armor from the BLTC if they had pieces available. I think this would allow more customization from the players, increase BLTC purchases and make the player base much happier with the cash shop.

Opposition – One person brought up a good point that people would be more willing to trade gold for 150 gems rather than buying $10 of gems for a whole set of armor.

While I feel like this is a valid argument, this would drive the conversion ratio to a point where buying gems would be more efficient. Plus, if I know I’m going to buy 300 gems for a few pieces of armor, I’m more likely to spend the remainder on keys or some seasonal perk.

I like this idea, there are some pieces I would buy, haven’t bought them for the simple fact I do not want the entire set.

I also support this idea. Lots of gem armor I would like to get or have got that I wished I could have just picked up one piece.

Something to consider: They have sold some individual armor pieces, including the Toxic Gloves Skin and the Grenth Hood Skin. Those weren’t part of a set, but, as most items in this category have cost 400-500 gems, I think it’s very optimistic to think that the price for “zodiac à la carte” would be 150/each.

Whether $5 is too much for a mask, or gloves, or a chest piece, or whatever, is a business question. It’s more than I’m interested in paying, but I’m a particularly stingy consumer, not a professional with sales data to refer to in making the optimal decision. (Whether it actually is the optimal price or not, I don’t have enough information to say.)

As someone who has more than once decided against buying a full set of armour because I only needed one or two pieces and the rest would only clutter my bank space, I wholeheartedly agree with this Idea.

I’m not sure wether 150 gems are applicable or too low but nevertheless, being able to purchase only parts of the gemstore armour sets would be greatly appreciated.

This is begged for constantly. It still makes me sad that we do not have this option.

Personally i would say that 150 is much to low. Often i really only use the chest and legs from a set, and i always hide head and shoulders.

I have even 2 chars that wear Brahams Chest and Aetherblade Legs, so i would have happily paid even 400 per piece, since in reality i payed 1600 for just 2 pieces.

You are right that 150 gems might be too low but I just wanted a nice number where the “discount” for the full set isn’t too far off. 200 gems would probably be closer to what I would expect. 1200 for a full set if you pieced it together or 800 outright.

I would also maybe make the chest and legs pieces more expensive than the rest, since they are really the most visual parts. So i would say maybe 300-350 for chest and legs and 200 for the rest.

I absolutely love this idea. I am considering getting the zodiac helm, but the pricetag of 800 gems puts me off. Especially since i don’t like the other parts.
