Pile of Crystalline Dust

I have proposed solution to this problem
Increase the droprate? Good luck with that then.
Increasing the droprate is completely unnecessary in this case. Crystalline Dust and Ancient Bones have roughly the same supply rate: ridiculously high. Seriously, go farm events in Cursed Shore; you’ll have so many Dust-dropping mobs running at you it isn’t even funny.

This changed with the new patch. Risen now drop various T6 mats and more bags, apparently at the expense of bone and dust. Which means the supply of bone and dust has dramatically decreased.
The problem is that crystalline dust has a special status among T6 mats because of its prevalent use in the Mystic Forge. So now the Mystic Forge recipes are becoming broken.
Found a new way to make money thanks guys!

Market data suggests otherwise.

What “market data”? Please tell me you aren’t referring to the amount posted on TP.

The same bags that contain dust and bones, as well as all the more expensive mats?

The bags contain the entire spectrum of mats, which lowers the amount of dust you get by substituting other mats in their place. So lets say instead of 10 crystalline dust you get 2 dust and 8 bags. You open the bags and get maybe 1 dust if lucky. So you now have 3 dust where you were getting 10 before.
You need 750 piles of crystalline dust to make the triforge pendant. Which is currently the only way anyone is going to get an ascended amulet (for another week or two anyway).
Hence it’s demand that skyrocketed thus effecting price. Ofc there are market speculators who try to play the game, but they’re not necessarily market manipulators.
Just go check from spidy how price of gold ore, ruby/sapphire/emerald orb shifted when patch became live. Same for orichalcum too, since there was nerf in supply.
In 2 weeks from this price of these goods should fall down again when people have enough laurels for their necklaces. Sell now, sell high!
(Man, should have bought more dust when it still was ~1s each.)
Outsource rng → profit.

Its use in the Mystic Forge is peanuts compared to its use for sharpening stones, oils and tuning crystals. It is the key component of these three consumables. They get sold by the thousands per hour.
Can people stop using the word market manipulation for once
Every single price increasement is market manipulation according to everyone here
And how is the price increasement ‘unacceptable’
Underpriced items are becoming a bit more expensive, just go with the flow and accept the fact that not everything in this game is cheap or for free

I can’t speak for the total volume of dust going into each category because I’m sure some players use a ton of one and none of the other. However, if you can’t afford paying 1-2 more silver for master maintenance oil, you can get quality maintenance oil on the cheap and lose 2% crit chance or something. But many mystic forge recipes are just broken and that’s my point.

No it isn’t.
Th price dropped by a silver in a whole day and I had to pull mine.
I think I succeeded in doing the opposite and lost 7 gold.
It’s 14.7 silver now. Patience is a virtue. You need it when you want to flip in a highly volatile market. I don’t flip, and stay miles away from this market even when crafting now. It’s just way too expensive.

On the weekends the markets are always very unpredictable with the huge influence of “weekend” players
The worst thing about this dust spike is that it makes T5 -> T6 material conversions in the mystic forge worthless, and also affects the viability of the core -> lodestone conversion; people have been crying out for more ways to obtain lodestones affordable and we have the new “binding agent” available for laurels, but the cost of dust now negates the value of this addition.
T6 dust either needs increased drop rates or a boost in the output of T5->T6 dust conversion.

I hadn’t thought about this but it’s a great point. Crystalline Dust spiking this much really effects a good chunk of the T6/exotic/legendary market in a very bad way.
Yesterday I’ve been farming orr maps for about two hours killing hundreds of mobs and I got one crystalline dust as a direct drop from mob. Then I got around 20 heavy moldy bags and after opening all I got one crystalline dust.
So the drop rate is like 1 crystalline dust for one hour of intensive farming mobs ?
THIS is the reason of this crystalline dust nonsense which is currently happening
I can go farm mobs to iron marches and easily get 100 luminous dust’s in one hour (direct drop from mobs)
Now the thing is that luminous dust is two tiers lower but the same rarity (fine) as crystalline dust. So the logic tells me if I go farm highest lvl creatures I should be able to farm crystalline dust effectively but I cant.
It seem to me that crystalline dust is not actually rarity wise fine but RARE

Incadescent is the common dust drop for that lvl range. If you were to farm a theoretical +lvl 85 risen mob then you would get crystalline at a common rate.
The mobs you farmed for the luminous dust have a rare drop rate for incadescent.

The reason for low drop rate is the increased mob rate. I’m sure you all seen the amount of mobs that spawns during an event. IF 50% of them were to drop the dust, the market will be flooded the way Bones were. Now that the risens drop more variety of T5/6 mats, the price of bones went up to match. Also, farm the Heavy moldy bags. The drop rate on these are insane, you can get a full stack of them in a few hours. Get your t5/t6 mats and dust from them.

I dont see the problem that market would be flooded by crystalline dust. Look at armored scale market is flooded with them and yet it sels for 9.5s
The problem is this
When I need crystalline dust for crafting some consumables I have to buy it from TP because the drop chance while farming will get me insane (DR kicks in ?)
So I have no other option then to buy it
So the game itself forces the idea of market manipulation with the ultra low drop rates and of course the abnormal stupid idea of diminishing returns on loot and the most important thing is that crystallyne dust is not exclusive (rare, exotic) item but there is scarcity of it. WHY ? So the low amount on TP are easily bought by investors and resold for higher prices

You think people are manipulating T6 mats? Not only is that difficult but insanely expensive to maintain.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the drop rates of dust at the moment. They are in higher demand now thanks to the Triforge.

I am talking about crystalline dust not all t6 mats. Take a look on guildwarstrade.com and you will see that the supply is around 2K so yes its easy to buy all stock for some “cartel” ofcourse not individual

Supply available on the outpost does not equal supply of dust.

just checked the gw2wiki
You have 1% chance of getting crystalline dust from opening heavy moldy bag
so there goes the idea of farming heavy moldy bags for getting crystalline dust. Only recomended for people with masochist tendencies

In a typical hour of farming I pull in about 75 moldy bags and ~5 dust plus 1g of blues/greens. that works out to be enough to end up with about 30 Dust an hour. That really isn’t that bad.
And the non dust can be sold off to buy dust.

The Triforge has been upgraded to Ascended?
I usually just hit Orr and get the T5 dust and convert it when I get 250. The drop rate is fine where it’s at. Not everything in the game has to drop all the time. There are numerous ways of getting what you need. Right now, this is a great option.

No but you can upgrade it for under 1g with a quick mystic forge recipe

Converting T5 dust into T6 dust via mystic forge isnt viable now because the price of T5 dust also skyrocketed in price. So you can just sell T5dust and buy T6 dust. Otherwise its only loss of skillpoints

I haven’t done it for over 2 weeks. I guess I lucked out when the price was low. Always an option if it goes down again.
Something going up ~5s over a period of several weeks is not manipulation. It’s a natural price shift in response to supply and demand.
There are manipulated items on the TP, but T6 isn’t one of them. You shouldn’t be looking at stuff traded thousands of times on a daily basis, you should look at the high end items with 2 listings for 300g that magically reappear at 600g the next day.
A quick note here to reinforce that supply orders do not necessarily imply supply. In the last 24 hours apprx 50,000 of these were sold on the TP.

Can you see how they were sold? Out of the bag via the “match lowest order” or bought from an existing offer?
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

That’s pretty cool. Just to put that number in perspective there are 1500 sell orders according to spidy. Really goes to show that sell orders don’t mean squat when people talk about supply.
EDIT: I know you have the numbers, but would you be willing to share just how many precursors (Dawn/Dusk, specifically, the most popular ones) were moved in the past 24 hours (or even in the past week)? If you can’t reveal that information, no biggie. But it’s something I’d love to know.
(edited by Ursan.7846)
^ agreed. Give us guys who are waiting on just a precursor to complete their legendary some info :/
You can actually estimate the number of Dawns and Dusks moved on the trading post from the data on gw2spidy, because they move slow enough that each transaction is going to show up – unlike dust, which has dozens moving every minute.
You can tell from the spidy data that 3 Dawns and 3 Dusks sold off of sell listings in the past 24 hours. It’s harder to tell from the buy listings, but there’s a pretty good chance one was moved each way there as well. So 4 of each in the last day should be a pretty good estimate.
There’s also been a lot of undercutting in the Dawn market, some people listing theirs at inflated prices recently have taken a bath.

Oh wow, thanks a lot John! It’s actually a lot higher than I expected.
Hope this can put all this rah rah about MARKET MANIPULATORS and PRECURSOR MONOPOLIES to rest though. But I doubt it.

Would it be possible for players to have access to this sort of transaction data? We can monitor sell listing volume, but as you’ve pointed out, that’s not particularly useful.
Not even close: 9 and 11
well I guess all those threads complaining about how dawn and dusk are too expensive to afford are a load of crap… Clearly plenty of people CAN afford them.

This would be incredible, if somewhere on the GW2 website (or maybe in-game on the TP) we could have a real market monitor and tracker. It’d help players get a real sense for the scale of the TP.

Exactly. The fact that there were that many people willing to pay that price shows that it’s getting around/at equilibrium. Sure, you may be willing to pay 400g for dusk but there are more people willing to pay A LOT more than you.
