Spiked up to 5gp yesterday as (I assume) demand for supporting breast cancer awareness in game grew.

Not sure if that is great economics in action or shameful. I hope at least that those that made “money” from the spike use it for something good.

OP, the prices will rise because all the sale orders on the TP will get bought out until people get to the prices that were lingering on the TP for a while, especially if it was all bought out fairly quickly. It doesn’t mean that 100’s of people are just relisting their dyes at a high cost. Supply simply could not keep up with short term demand.

Secondly, I don’t understand the mentality of people like you who would ever find it “shameful” that someone would make money on a video game dye. Why, because it is a color that is used to signify support of breast cancer awareness? Yeah, shame on those crazy people……

Not really sure what you mean by “hope they spent gold made on something good”. What does that even mean? Like a nice piece of armor? We are still talking about currency in a video game right?

I understand it and feel it’s shameful. Players are trying to support a good cause and there are those out there that’ll prey on anything no matter what. “Oh that child is dying of cancer…well we know for sure he needs this medicine…let’s buy it all and jack up the price!” Same mentality…….disgusting.

It doesn’t have to be a dye that is named pink. There are other pink dyes with other names. Humiliation for example is a pink dye and its only 4 silver right now.

Use this chart to find other pink dyes. http://i.imgur.com/AWPpW.png

It’s amazing how easy it is to make money off people who are either too stupid or too lazy to look for cheaper alternatives. I need to tap this market!

I took part in Pink Day in LA, and used some of the half-dozen pink-coloured dyes I already had unlocked.

Our society has become one in which everyone has now been trained subconsciously to shame each other so we all feel bad about ourselves and succumb to what ever the flavor of the day minority (or majority) opinion happens to be. What do you think this whole political correctness movement over the last 10 years has been all about?

You may find the pink dye situation shameful even though it was more likely an issue of supply being used up long before demand could catch up and not an issue of people just profiteering. However, you and all others who wish to shame everyone else for whatever you don’t like is disgusting in it’s own right and the real issue with topics like this. So, GG to you sir.

If you cannot distinguish exploiting something like breast cancers awareness from what a “flavor of the day” opinion might be, then that says it all and then some.

It’s the same mentality that has been created for people to adopt, it doesn’t matter what the topic happens to be. So, I can’t distinguish what you are talking about, because it doesn’t exist.

But, I guess, enough about this. This isn’t even the proper venue to discuss such things.

I just find it odd that people were so adamant on getting “Pink” dye when there’s several other shades of pink like Cotton Candy or Humiliation that could pass for pink easily.

It may not have anything to do with people “taking advantage”.

I don’t think most people expected Pink dye to suddenly skyrocket and thus bought dozens of Pink dye to sell later. If anything, someone aware of the event may have bought some in advance, but that’s assuming a bunch of market-savy individuals were watching for such an event to begin with (and those inviduals assuming that people would buy Pink specifically and not other shades).

Seems more likely what happened is that people participating in the event bought all the cheap Pink dyes off the TP, so the only ones that were left listed were the ones people had listed months ago for ridiculous prices just hoping for the off chance to make some money. There’s no time limit on the TP or anything, so throwing something on the TP for a price much higher than its usually worth doesn’t really come with any downside (beyond the initial listing fee). If it sits on the TP for years, whatever. If it sells eventually for the silly price you set

An event that causes a mass purchasing of a single (low supply) item can cause a quick, temporary price spike because there’s little supply being added to reduce the price. All the reasonable prices get snatched up, you’re left with only the high ones. Once more supply gets into the TP, the price drops back down to its natural equilibrium (like it has now).

Seems there usually only between 100 and 300 Pink dye on the TP at any given time, after all. That many could easily be eaten up quickly by an entire event where everyone wants that one color.
