Wish it was medium armor, a pity :/
(edited by Ponzu.4570)
its kind of stupid it can’t be both.
If we are not allowed to use them as armor and transmute them, could they please do it like in the original gw?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Costume
I would like that and I think I would purchase costumes/ outfits/ armors skins. :-)
And PLEASE let them be unlocked account-wide and acquirable unlimited times, not soul-bound and single use.. ^^
You did it very well in the original gw, just continue your reasonable system..
They are account bound.
You are right.
But it was more a suggestion if there would be something like the costumes in gw.
Would be great if we could have outfit skins/ costumes which can be displayed and worn everywhere (especially in a battle).
What was the reason for not going with the costume system in gw? It seems superior too the current transmute system.
I kinda wish it could be used in combat since some of them are so pretty. It’s really pointless to ever use Town Clothes. I even forgot they existed…
Screw immersion. GW1 let me confront the gods wearing a lion mask! I someday expect to do the same in GW2!
Them not being usable in combat is the reason i have never seen anyone wearing them anywhere, even in town.
Look at other mmo’s like lotro, they have the best cosmetic system ever and make a ton from their cash store, i even brought some cosmetics and don’t normally do that kind of thing. I have not payed for any gems in this game.
The response will be, we don’t want people using them in pvp or wvw, yeh like duh(but you did remove the class icons in a recent patch ?).
You can’t use costumes in lotro pvp either. You can use them in all pve activities.
Even wow let you raid and open world game in cosmetics and potion transformation cosmetics.
Stop being so strict on this issue and fov and so lax on bots. They take more of a stance vs cosmetics and fov then those bloody bots i saw 50 of yesterday.
Anet,ur cosmetic sales will go up by 500% if u would just allow us to wear anything everywhere anytime!
Now, I don’t have it yet, but as far as I understand the pirates outfit comes with a set of skills as well. I would not like to sacrifice those.
But – there could be a second set, like the armour skins – just now you would have to remove the armour class restriction. Not sure if that is possible with the tech.
GW1 is a testimony for successful costumes. I think it speaks for itself.
Besides, wouldn’t it be awesome to kill Zhaitan wearing a GW2 cap?
I can understand the concept of town clothes being separate from combat clothes, to keep the armor types looking distinct and keep any future “silly” outfits for non-combat use .
But . . . the pirate outfit looks like it would be perfect as medium armor. If I saw someone wearing it and didn’t know any better, I’d just think, “wow, that’s some nice looking medium armor!” I am sad that I can’t get a gorgeous top like that for my ranger to wear while out in the world adventuring.
The female pirate is too sexy to be a toy only. (And unfortunately not THAT kind of toy either…)
Meanwhile the male pirate looks AMAZING with the glasses headpiece! Like a scholar! :O
Glasses in GW1 were my favorite headpiece, so I’m wondering why they didn’t implement it?
I’d totally get the glasses if I could wear them into combat, like a normal piece of headgear. I’m an Asura engineer— it works out perfectly!

We’re all fans of the reading glasses, heh…
I was disappointed when I found out about the current costume system. I thought it would be like the one in gw1. It’s stopping me from buying any outfits here, because I don’t like it being a one-use (I have to get full exotic first, else I also have to spend MORE gems on transmutation stones later).
If it was multiple use, I would have bought all the costumes already. hint hint
Also, the town clothing is a big fail. I’ve never seen anyone use their town clothing. It’s just too much of a hassle to switch every time.
It’s kinda sad that the Pirate outfit is one of the best medium armor designs in the game…and you can only wear it in town.
I’d actually consider making a thief or ranger if I could transmute it onto battle armor.
And yet forums are full of people complaining that medium armor is only pirate style…
looks surprisingly good with sylvari
oh.. promotion
@ tintaglia What? Pirate =/= Bandit or Gunslinger – that is what all the medium armor looks like – BIG TRENCH COATS – that is what people complain about.
Imagine TF2 if you couldn’t wear hats in combat
The town-clothes system is a nice idea, but people want to mix and match; I love the pirate hat but what’d be the point of wearing it if i have to unequip the rest of my awesome (combat) outfit?
Yup, even in that other game all their events had costume food and you could use them in combat(not in battlegrounds tho), during events raids would consist of everyone in lots of unique costumes. It was also fun ganking people in them when you blended in with the mobs.
These guys just don’t seem to understand cosmetics. The two greatswords are the most sort after items in the game as they look amazing and can be used in combat, however some of these other legendary items just plain suck.
This is the first mmo i’ve played in awhile that didn’t have a proper cosmetic system.
Yeah, I would love to be able to wear the pirate outfit in combat instead of the ugly medium armor alternative. I just would rather look the way I want to all the time, not just in certain circumstance like being in town. That’s why I won’t buy town clothes.
You can add a pirate hat to lots of outfits and have a piratey flair. This is the Krytan armor skin (minus the head and shoulders) from the gem store.
I am disappointed that you can’t transmute costumes onto your armor. I wanted the witches outfit for my Mesmer.
Since I only bought the chef clothes, I never really thought about this. It would be cool to transmute a set of clothes that aren’t so wacky. Seeing a chef fighting an elemental in the reactor would drag me out of my fantasy Rp world, but a pirate? Not so much. I would think this is a reasonable request… ANet?
Anet! make them transmutable! do it! i’m bloody kitten sure 99% of the time we’re not wearing town clothes dancing around
You forget, it can’t be armor because it doesn’t have a dress/skirt attached to it…
Not to mention a coat.
please allow us to skin anything and everything.
The GW1 glasses were awesome armor. Since so many armor helms are just not something I like to show so instead I hide the helm, I would love to have something that looks great on my character.
GW1 had it right… GW2 has it wrong with the glasses. Please don’t bring up the reality of glasses as armor wouldn’t be right. This is a fantasy game and these glasses are fantastic.
the lack of options with the transmutation system was definitely a conscious choice by Anet to bring about more gem purchases but they neglected the simple fact that most people won’t buy costumes they can’t wear when they want.
I would have bought some already if it was a normal wardrobe system.. rather sill imo
We have been talking about the same sort of stuff here
All in all i cant say as many people are planning to buy costumes till they changed them so they are at least reclaimable
u CAN wear town cloth in combat.
however u get 0 armor from i, so beware
