Please fix the Trading Post
You post isn’t making much sense. So it isn’t clear what “problem” you are trying to say there is. I’ve checked the TP for every single item I’ve gotten in drops to see if it was anything others were interested in. A lot of what drops is vender trash (stuff nobody wants). At one point possibly vender trash may have been worth buying to salvage though I have my doubts on that. Everything else sells above vender price even if it is less than what it cost to buy the materials to make for the crafted stuff. Which in those cases there is something to be said about a problem with the market for that crafted stuff. Not all crafted stuff is like that but a lot of it is based on data from the TP.
Now as far as less than vender price is concerned there was a bug early on in the game that allowed offers to be made to buy for less than vender price but it was impossible to fill the order since there is the sell limit of vender + 1c. So if there are still buy orders like that then they are still working on purging those orders. There is obvious competition in anything that isn’t vender trash. I personally have sold quite a bit of stuff at higher than the current lowest selling price from blue to rare. It was just a matter of waiting up to days to get my coin on some of the stuff. I was patient and waited out the competition to get more coin.
The only restriction is that the price sold has to be at least vender + 1c. So I don’t know how you can say there isn’t a free market. Players set the prices. Remember in a free market it is free to both buyers and sellers. By this I mean that sellers can only sell stuff for what people are willing to pay for it. With the TP this is extremely transparent because all of the buying and selling is happening in one place and all players buying and selling see all of it. So there is no artificially high prices due to lack of informed buyers.
For example I did my research in GW1 on minipet prices to buy some of them I didn’t have yet. I contacted someone selling one but didn’t say what the price was. He/she tried to sell a 30k mini to me for 100k. I told him/her that I researched the price first and that wasn’t true and he/she just kept trying to tell me I was wrong. Instead of selling it for what it was really worth. So unless he/she duped someone into paying that or finally lowered the price he/she probably still has the mini. Had there been a central market with access to everyone selling that minipet I could have found a seller and bought one for it’s real price. Instead I just have one less mini and no real loss for not having it.
