Possible Fashion License?
I love this idea! I hope this gets the attention that it deserves.
It’s actually pretty easy to earn charges in the game. You just have to play pvp.
My light armour wearers each hold 8 tops and 8 bottoms in addition to the one they’re wearing, all saved with a different skin, because I like to switch them up. My medium armour wearers have 4. My heavy, 3. I’ve had people comment on the fact that in a dungeon, as I was the group leader, my armour changed in every conversation cutscene.
Unfortunately, this precludes me from making ascended armour because I’m not going to make 9 sets of ascended light armour.
I’d pay a pretty decent amount to save those inventory spots and allow me to make ascended armour so I don’t have to blow charges on them whenever I want to switch.
Alternate idea: “Free Change Charge”. Costs 1 charge per skin, the skin you use it on then becomes unlocked to use as many times as you want forever for free. This means that you can continue to swap around the ones you like without having a specific outfit saved if you don’t want to change the pants or boots or gloves or headpiece or whatever, it’s a charge per item rather than per outfit, and you’d have to pay again to unlock skins you unlock later.
I’ve suggested similar before, except called it an “Outfit Template” where each template saves one armor combination as an Outfit and it will behave as such across all characters. ANet can charge 500 gems per template with the justification that it costs roughly 180 gems for six transmutation charges, so adding the template in would bring it in line with the price of Outfits.
While that may seem expensive, the benefit of this would be that you would be able to apply mix-n-matched looks to any class – we still won’t be able to mix weights, but it will expand the available looks for all classes (although I have no idea how it would work with cultural armor, maybe ANet can start relaxing racial restrictions).
it’s 150 gems for 5 charges, the system before that had 1 charge for 250 gems and a fine for 350 gems.
i am all for free stuff but when the current system is actually making things cheaper then before then you really need to check what you’re asking, if you’re so concerned on having not enough charges you should ask your self how easily you’re wasting them.
However, i do believe this system should’ve bin free from the start, especially all the skins you already need to pay for to unlock.
even if only the in-game skins needs a token, i think that all the payed skins (and the HoM skins ofcouse), no matter how cheap, should have a free-to-apply status.
This (or similar) suggestion gets brought up 2 or 3 times a week (like that other topic that rhymes with “Counts”), and it is highly doubtful that Anet is simply going to cripple one of their more lucrative revenue streams.
As mentioned above, the Wardrobe system GREATLY reduced the cost of playing dress up once your character reaches 80 and also allowed for multiple uses of previously one time use items obtained from the Gem Store.
Players that keep suggesting things should be FREE in this game need to remind themselves of how Anet keeps the Servers powered up….they have to make money in the Gem Store.

Upgrading from terrible doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s good yet.
Why settle for bad simply because it’s better than terrible?

Who said it should be free?
Pretty sure every single suggestion here was along the lines of a one-time fee instead of dropping money every single time.
And are you implying here that having a one-time fee to unlock a skin for unlimited use would somehow cause a huge crash in Anet’s bottom line to the point where the game needs to be shut down?
I didn’t say in my post that once you buy the Fashion License all custom outfits saved would be unlimited, hence making it free; I said that there should be a limit so if you wished for more custom save slots, you would have to buy another Fashion License, similar to the Crafting License where if you wished to have more active crafting professions you would have to buy another. This way, they keep the revenue flowing rather than losing out entirely.
