I mean seriously, the price is insane right now. Couple that with the drop rate has steadily been nerfed since launch, it looks like people are trying to corner the market on them, thats the only explanation is the massive increase in cost and honest, since its a core component to making exotic gear, it is making a mess of crafting.

You would have thought that FotM would have made ectos easier to get and lower the price, yet since FotM that prices are gone way up, and because of that ~ its going to make it harder and harder for core-casuals to get gear, I would love to see a casual player in greens/rares attempt FotM scale 10+ where the trash mobs can hit you for 12k+

Working out to make full exotic heavy armor set right now, the cheapest it’ll cost is 16g 70s – that’s nearly double the cost it was a few weeks ago.

The drop rate has not been steadily nerfed since launch.

What has happened recently is demand is up.

Increase in availability of precursors from the karka event means that those people now need ecto for their legendaries and spent the money they were saving for the precursor on the ecto. Additionally with the mystic forge back slot ascended items people are burning through ecto there as well.

Your perception is the issue.

In all actuality. Selling your ecto for profit while the price is high, and waiting for it to drop when the demand stabilizes would be the best bet if you were a market betting man.

In the past 15 minutes since I posted this message, the cost of ectos has gone up to 29s each now. People are playing the markets out of pure greed and screwing over the rest. At launch, salvaging rare/exotic level 70+ gear almost always netted you ectos, now its quite possible to salvage 5 exotics in a row and don’t get any, and thats using a BL kit.

since fotm launched, i’ve been salving my rares and selling the ecto. usually i just sell the rare, but since there is a demand for them right now, it would be the wiser thing to do IMO.

i just crafted a full set of exotic valkyrie heavy and exotic knight’s trinkets for basically free. i can’t imagine the price of 16g to be realistic, because…to be realistic, you’ve gotta have SOME of the mats laying around like ori/gossamer. what do you do with all the lvl 70+ rares you find?

Agreed. Ecto’s are flying out the window at 28s+. Make hay while the sun is shining.

I find irony with this, given all the doomsday screams that the event (and Mad King before it) flooding the market with fancy salvageable drops was crashing the market.

I guess it both collapsed prices and caused rampant inflation at the same time?

Its correct, I totaled it up myself. This is buying all the mats without doing any farming. It would be cheaper obviously using your own mats, but still with the price of ectos being so high ~ the cost for crafting right now, just isn’t worth it.

Talking about 9g for 30 ectos. How long before we start to see ectos in the gem store?

i can understand if someone is asking YOU to craft them a full exo set and you tell them the price and they go ‘NO WAY.’

in fact, this happened to me 2 nights ago. someone asked for a full set of exo from an armorsmith and i whispered him back saying i had 400 in armorsmith and i would make the full set for him free of charge provided he had all the mats/coin ready. when i told him the total cost was around 21g(probably closer to 23g now) and that he could buy the full set off the TP for 22g, he thanked me for my time and cursed the fact that he had only 19g. i even tried to show him that 21g was unnecessary, because he HAD to have had SOME mats…

oh well.

1)Play the game.
2)Get Rares.
3)Salvage Rares.
4)Save for gear or sell.
5)Progress or profit.

In 5 easy steps your problem can be solved. If your looking for exotic gear then do Dungeons. I’ve had good exotic drops in FotM.

The main factor to the rising prices was the bot bannings, everything has steadily risen in price since, but that’s the price we pay to live in a bot free world.

The price has gone up, but I am still getting them a lot, if not more, which means I have made more money as of late. It’s not really a problem. The problem to solve is how to get them and once you do, it’s all aboard the gravy train.

The problem with that is those ectos aren’t reaching the market. Flood the market with supply and you start to level the supply/demand equation.

I personally use BL salvage kits and lately I’ve been VERY lucky to pull one ecto off a 70+ rare in the last 12-15 salvages. So either my luck is really crap or the drop rate is diminishing.

Not to mention, the FotM isn’t nearly as good for farming as people say it is. Past 4 sets I’ve done, I’ve got 1 exotic worth 1g, and 1 rare worth 18s the rest was blues and greens. Total money earned is about1g 80s for about 8 hours work , and the past two fractal attempts both ended in failure because of people d/cing.

Just to mention, you can’t make a profit anymore buying materials and flipping them.

I’ll start farming fractals for exotics and the like once they’ve dealt with the connection issue to the server, culling, etc. Until then I’m not going near the place because I don’t want to let any PUG down by disconnecting on the 3rd fractal in a series like what has happened to me numerous times so far.

I’m on Lvl1 and destined to stay there for now. It’s just not worth the effort.

I’ve attempted scale 10 twice today, both times we’ve had one person d/c, getting old and frustrating.

You realize lvl 80 green rare/yellow salvage kit= Ectos majority of the time. Just saying…..

The demend for ecto has always been high since they are use for pretty much all exotics/legendaries. Since the bot ban the price of ecto has been increase ~1s a day. No one is willing to supply ecto because they are difficult enough to come by and everyone needs them. I do not see the price of ecto stabilizing anytime soon. Unless Arena net does something.

ectos price is up because of the ascended gear. As more people get the 300 ectos they need for infused ascended the price will drop again.

Denim is right. Also, the price would be considerably cheaper if you had some of the mats yourself. Another way is just farming with a level 80 character in open world, you can net at the very least 1g50s an hour. Just takes dedication. Getting a crafted exotic set is not difficult at all if you have the dedication.

The drop rate has been turfed. I’ve missed a ecto on more then 1 yellow. I’ve gone 0 – 10 on some days. I don’t even waste my time with yellows any more I just TP them.

I just salvaged 20 level-80 rares, using the yellow (rare quality) salvage kits, and I received 9 ectos. This was my first time doing this, so I have nothing to compare it to. Anyway, I hope the data helps.

Started to save up on dungeon tokens a couple of weeks ago in preparation for my level 80 characters, and working a build based off that. Much easier on the wallet, and pow/vit/tough stats are always nice. With the exotics flooding the market from the event thing plus from fractals (I guess), buying them outright to reskin is cheaper than building it yourself. Or, get the base model from dungeons which have berserker stats (for example).

It’s just a bit sad really that crafting is much more expensive than buying the weapon you want (especially if it’s something like berserker), and if it’s not available, then dungeon token gathering is also a good means of getting weapons.

@OP its not the price of Ectos thats killing the game, its Anet nerfing drop rates and nerfing salvaging that is killing all the enjoyment from this game.

@OP its not the price of Ectos thats killing the game, its Anet nerfing drop rates and nerfing salvaging that is killing all the enjoyment from this game.

Um, from the market stand point, you’re wrong. They didn’t nerf the drop rate. Rather the lack of bots and the price of other items tied into gold are the cause of rising prices.

Its still RNG though, you could have a black lion salvage kit and break down 10 rares/exotics and get 1 ecto. Where as someone else, could buy 10 rares/exotics and get 20 ectos.

Like with T6 materials, Anet made the stupid mistake to tie ectos to all 3 highest crafting tiers (exotic, ascended and legendary).

This makes the acquisition of exotics dependent on the demand/desirability of ascended/legendary items. That in turn completely defeats the purpose of exotics as relatively easy to get max stat gear for “everybody” and casual players are now forced to pay double or more than before because of vanity items (legendaries) that don’t even interest them.

This is bad design. If players want to grind for weeks to get vanity items let them, but don’t mix their aquisition with the “normal” market (and I consider everything up to exotic “normal”).

On a side note:
To have all high level crafting be dependent on only the highest level of materials also means that players will have even more incentive to only play in the 4 T6 explorable areas, further depopulating the lower level zones.
It would have been much more intelligent to have, for example, the recipes for legendaries require not full stacks of T6 materials only, but instead smaller stacks but from all tiers.
The fact of the matter is that currently all materials under T6 are completely useless once you leveled your crafting professions past them.

Bought over 40+ flame legion things for 20s a pop. I started doing this with 1g. I put 4 minutes into breaking with black lion salvage kits gained from finding keys to chests.

I skyrocketed to 8g+ because the cost of ectos and the promised gem I get for using the sal kit. It was great. I’ve sold all my ectos for tons of cash.

At the risk of causing an outrage… make ecto a drop in high level areas? If not then make it as part of dungeon loot or something, just a measure of getting more ecto into the game and help stabilising prices.

Demand CLEARLY outstrips supply, and that’s a fact that won’t go away any time soon.

Out of the top end mats, ectos prices have been the steadiest. They always havered around what 22, 23 silver?

I made a killing since the patch on bones and teeth, and dust, as before the patch, they werent really worth selling, and we have seen there prices skyrocket.

My guess is a lot of people who have been behind the powerlevling curve are now starting to want exotic gear, right about the same time the powerlevling folks have now been given a new set of gear to chase.

And if your running fotm with greens and rares, well then you your simply doing it wrong in my opinion, wouldn’t that denote you haven’t run any other dungeons, so your just trying to bypass the rest of the content instead, and thats more your fault then the games really.

And this is coming from someone who has run 1 dungeon, the level 40 one once, and has 2 80’s in full exotic.

Its because infused ascended items require alot of ectos, and I mean ALOT. So people are stockpiling for the inevitable time they become 50s+ heck, if anet doesn’t do anything about the supply problem, the price could even eventually hit 1g+…god what a horrible future the game will have then.

2) Supply: People who have ecto’s are keeping them to craft what they need or holding them to sell when the market starts to dip.

Ummmmm….care to tell me where you got your data from, because I cant remember ectos being 12 since the first 2 weeks of the game going live…….

price of ecto = price of the cheapest T5 fine mat * 15 (most of the cost)+ price of mithril ore * 6 + price of elder wood log * 6 + price of cheapest T5 mat* ~10. This is where the majority of ecto come from. Since they 1) mass ban the bot, 2) nerf the Orr and 3) introduce fotm, most of the farmers who used to supply T5 fine mat are banned, quitting or farming fotm like you. That is why the price is rising.

And there is nothing to do with drop rate. They are the same.

If you have ever farmed Orr you would not make such a statement. And if you do farm Orr then you are lying to yourself. Everyone who farm there notice the nerf of drop both in quantity and quality.
