why not just invest in dragon event food? It cost about the same, take about the same bank space. And it is hard to determine if the demand of quartz will be there.
The demand of food will always be there, and the dragon event food is a bargain so everyone will surely use it.
On top of that, you can still mine quartz in your home instance. So if it go up, people can just mine in their own instance, or people will mine more to sell.
I do find the crystal intriguing because they did give us that node in our home instance. It is odd. Not odd enough for me to put a ton in but a post telling me surprise got me to buy a few more stacks :P
Ascended armor will have celestial stats I’m sure. I see the demand for the crystals falling because of that. I highly doubt they’ll be used as part of higher tier mats (same with the Azurite stuffs) as they were limited time items.
I don’t think its that great of an investment. Here are some of my reasons:
A: LC will return + there are quartz nodes that almost everyone got from the meta achievement. Some people are smart enough to get use the node instead of buying because they have a chance at a charged.
B: People are mainly using them to get celestial which i think requires charged so 25 quartz. And i believe its like 1 charge per day so 25 quartz / person / day.
C: Alot and i mean ALOT of people invested in this item. There are probably tonnes of stock left from the event that people are stashing. Some might not unload all at once but some might.
So i believe that the crystals weren’t gonna be too profitable. They will be profitable but not by much you might have better luck just flipping mats food in bulk.

The truth is if I just sell everything when they go up 30-50%, and buyout another and redo the process, I probably make much more money. Instead of waiting for month/year for them to go up.

I tried to mystic forge it, apparently you can’t. The only thing it can do is make charged crystal.
The draconic armor and pearl weapon you make look exactly like the other draconic and pearl weapon from tier6 material. So I’m confused what you trying to say.
Dragon Bash Food is a bad long term investment because its price is directly linked to the zhaitaffy price. Zhaitaffy is still in great supply and i dont think the supply will diminish anytime soon. As you can still buy dragonbash food from the vendor with zhaitaffy, dont expect to make a big profit on either of those.
Concerning Quartz, I have mixed expectations. Investing in them right now would only make sense, if they introduce recipes that need quartz and will be hugely popular.
And even then, the price might just rise by 50-100%. If you bought a full stack at 40c you paid 10G to fill a bank slot for long term (at least 2 months). If 5-10G profit are worth it for you to occupy a bank slot that long, go for it. I myself still have about 8 stacks of them that i harvested myself during the event but never bought more with the intent to flip it with a profit in a couple of months.

Watch as the prices rise everyday. Eventually they will reach a plateau, after which demand will start becoming lower than supply and prices will fall. Unless you have storage space issues (not unlikely with those 120 hypothetical stacks of quartz) you want to dump all those stacks during that plateau for maximum profit. Alternatively, you can wait until the release of ascended armor and gamble on whether or not quartz will be used on that (I personally have about 3000 crystals which I mostly keep for personal use when and if ascended celestial gear ever requires them)

But everyone eat food, and for long term investment, food will surely dry up. Price of zaitaffy and food actually rose in the last 20 days.
And price of food is actually more tied to dragon coffer than zaitaffy. That’s why supply of zaitaffy dont’ dry up but keep increasing in price because dragon coffer increase in price.

Haven’t you read the forums? Everyone needs Celestial gear. It’s so unfair that it’s time-gated because I can’t finish my zerker thief build without having my Celestial armor.

Ya I have 23 character slot and a 250 space personal guild bank. I’m actaully using some of my lvl80 character just to store item. Those low price item surely take alot of bank space.

So that’s 2 more I can’t achieve so that’s 10 leaving 14 of 16 needed for the meta. I probably spent 50s repairing my armor from all the plummets to my death simply trying to get to the upper waypoint for the 1st time, yes my jump timing stinks that much.
I was able to do Dragon Bash and Southsun without problem but 4 Winds simply had to much locked up in content I can’t play.
Only if you think Celestial is good or that they will add additional recipes. Using them for t7 would be horrible … time gating on top of time gating.
If you havent readed a lot of crafting from 400 to 500 and esspecially parts for ascended gear and precursors will be time based crafting.
The individual t7s will already have a daily limit so even if you had infinite charged quartz you can only make a set amount per day. That is what I meant by time gating on top of time gating.
As for investing in quartz. What do you think is the maximum price ANet will allow? They are likely to have a cap in mind and if the prices get too high they can just bring the Sanctum back.
For the Dragon Bash food and Zhaitaffy the event is stated as being annual so aiming for a 1 year investment time seems like a bad idea. That aside their maximum price is capped by the cost of the equivalent crafted food. I don’t think anyone would be willing to pay more for something less convenient(DB foods needs to be refreshed more frequently).
It looks like you can get around 6g/stack of profit for each of them IF they hit those prices. I don’t think they will because people are willing to pay anywhere from 300% to 1119% more for the longer duration food. Willingness to pay those prices is based on the buy order prices for the crafted food. There are people who are saying they are willing to pay 0.221c/s for Omnomberry Tarts instead instantly buying Dragonfly Cupcakes which cost 0.058c/s.

Was thinking that about sprockets as well.. its one thing to have a new random item like that… but they gave us a deposit slot for it too… if they didn’t intend on having us use it for other things it seems silly for them to have gone thru the trouble of adding that.

A lot of this is simply you giving yourself an excuse. I completed every achievement in that panel and I’m a solo player. There were plenty of groups going for Colossal Kites, both in GW2LFG and just LA map chat.

From here, you can get any 3 kites via a Mesmer portal. If you’re incapable of eye-hand coordination AND asking for help, then that’s not Arenanet’s fault. This is a multiplayer game and should be treated as such. Not everything can and should be done solo.
And where did I say I didn’t get any achievements? I said I didn’t get the number needed for the meta reward and I did get most of those.
And up to this point the game has gone out of it’s way to not mandate teaming or jumping puzzles to achieve a meta. Simply look at dailies which don’t require WvW, jumping puzzles or fractals to achieve the daily. Or that 95% of the PvE content doesn’t require teaming. MMO means we all play in the same world, not that we have to team.

95% of PvE content does require teaming, actually.
There’s map completion which can be done solo.
There’s WvW which is a team effort, even if you play solo.
There’s Dungeons which is a team effort, but can be done solo (for the super hardcore players).
There’s Fractals which are a team effort.
There’s Guild Missions which is a team effort.
Last night the quartz went up from 76c up to 1.68s, Im so happy of my initial investment of 33k of quartz.
Btw I think the quartz will still go up to at least 2 silver. Time to wait and sell..

I think it’s a bid on the future of crafting, if quartz, and expecially charged quartz, will be a mats used to craft up to 500 for any profession, who bought it in time will do a crapload of money, otherwise if quartz will be used only for celestial exotic stats as now, it’s price will be stationary or be subject to a slow increase.

This. Anet so far has shown to consistently introduce new mats/tokens for new items, more so than utilize existing mats.
quartz absolutely will serve for something else in the future, both for the legendary that the disciplines of crafting. The fact that they put a mine to collect this quartz (only with the possibility of 3 or even give most quartz pumped directly, so we should be thinking even more the fact that the objects that are used to make new precursors will require daily of materials obtainable daily, quartz). They do not put a material so much for putting it and in this moment we use for the celestial that allow you to have armor and weapons with all the stat where you can make balanced builds. It is an object which not disappears after the patch, in fact you can pick it up in the various home instanced, so watch out, you must buy it (as I did by the way, I’m sure that will put something, when I have more than 37 quartz top level) and wait for the new news that surely will tell us that with that material will be possible to do something like precursor, legno also think this, a point of good for you =). The quartz price spikes have me nervous enough that I bought up a few hundred for my own use. There’s really not much on the market at the current price (~1.1s) so i figure the price is going to fluctuate again.

It’s probably spiked this high because players are A: coming back from vacation. B: investing. C: intentionally buying them to cause a spike. D: all of the above.

People are easy to manipulate. It happens all the time in real life, too. Drop a few vague rumors about a stock that’s about to pay off and people rush to get a piece. Sell your worthless stock for a 100x profit and watch everyone’s money evaporate.
On the other hand, people also mention real, solid investments that are guaranteed to pay off big. Such as me, I’m ignoring the quartz bubble and putting all my money into dolyak-wool sweaters. I can’t talk about why, but when the time comes I’ll sell everything for a huge profit. <wink>
