Q:

In the “Items I’m Buying tab” why do the most recent buy orders fill first over those listed a while ago at the same price?

Is it just reordering the position of the item in the item queue and if so why not clear the older buy order first?

I don’t want to say LIFO (last in first out) cause there are other things going on as well, someone may have undercut you after you listed the first set and then your second set added to that and it went out first.

I see what you’re saying and I have no explanation for it. I’ll just add that I’ve noticed that sometimes it will fill random orders. like if I order 4 stacks of 250 (for 1000 total) and someone sells me some, my buy orders page might look like this:
92
250
238
250

Exactly Mystic. In my case I have a 17 day old buy order which wont be filled until all my more recent ones have. Would be nice to know how long it takes for orders to cycle through before they get filled to know the turnover rate of items.

I know that the TP works on a FIFO system. so if you place a buy order for 250 at 1s, then someone else places a buy order for 250 at 1s, yours will sell first.
My guess is that it bundles all of your buy orders into one. So when it picks which of your orders at 1s to consume… iuno. it’s semi-random, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. like: why would they go through all the trouble to make it favor the last order you made, but not be absolute and will sometimes do other orders?

It may be tied to your game account rather than giving each buy/sell order a unique identifier. I’m assuming they did this because it was easier and less stress on the system.

another thought arrises:
you list 1 item for 1s
then someone else lists 250 of the same item for 1s
then you list 250 more of these items for 1s
then someone buys 10 of them. who are they bought from?

That’s what I was thinking that someone should check. Well you’d need two people for it. Just find an item that’s cheap and sells slow enough that your testing won’t be interrupted.

3 people. A lists 1, B lists 250, A lists 250, C buys 10. something like that.
I’d be willing to test it if we could find another. I’ll be on about 6:30 today (7 hours from now)
hmmmm. actually, I think it we did this, if A checked their listings, they would see their first listing had 250 and their second had 1. when you list more on an item that isn’t up to 250 yet, it fills the previous one to 250 first.

My assumption is that it goes by timestamp, then collapses listings by owner if there’s no intervening “owner” in the listings. IE;

  • Player A lists order of 100 at UTC 00:00:01
  • Player B lists order of 250 at UTC 00:00:02
  • Player A lists order of 250 at UTC 00:00:03
  • Player A lists order of 150 at UTC 00:00:04
  • Player A lists order of 1 at UTC 00:00:05

Given the above, the game probably would view the orders as Player A’s order #1 has FIFO priority, Player B’s single order given second priority, and orders #2 through #5 for Player A are collapsed into a single order of 401 items at third listing priority. Once that order reaches primary priority, the fulfillment of those orders probably occur in some random and arbitrary order as far as the individual listings themselves go.

This is admitedly probably wrong, and will sound paranoid, but i’ll throw it out there anyway. I’ve had the thought that part of the priority as to who’s items are sold at a particular price might be, in part, influneced by being logged in. I log in several times during the day, both peak and nonpeak hours. OFten i’ve logged in with no coins waiting for pick up despite several hours of being off line. Then, within 30 seconds of being on line i’ll start making sales and have coins to pick up. Maybe is just coincidence.

Pretty sure you are just seeing a bit of a data lag from when you first log in. BLTP runs on a different server than the actual game server, so it does take some time for the in-game interface to react to TP data (note the lag when you open the BLTP window).

For me what it feels like is instead of Player A’s first listing of 100 being removed first the last listing is removed down to 100 and then Player B would be front of the queue. So the Buy Order tab for Player A would be.

  • Player A lists order of 100 at UTC 00:00:01
  • Player A lists order of 250 at UTC 00:00:03
  • Player A lists order of 51 at UTC 00:00:04
