I haven’t done the trading gold for gems process yet and have a couple of questions.

Do you have to have a credit card registered to do the process?

If I don’t have to register a credit card to recieve gems and I want to use those gems for a character slot upgrade is it still possible?

No. To trade gold for gems you just use the option through the market in game. No credit card needed. Once you have your gems, you can buy whatever you want with them … no need to put bank info in for a character slot if you can come up with the in-game gold.

The In game currency for Gems reward system was an example of a good gold sink.

Basically trading in game surpluses of gold for GEMS allows you to attain things like Additional character slots, or Storage upgrades for banks or additional bag slots for characters. all things that traditionally we had to pay real money to attain, & still can if we so choose. BUT the added benefit of allowing a player accumulate such rewards from playing is even more rewarding. Just my opinion. Thats a great big THANK YOU to ArenaNet as well…
