Hi all,

I’m thinking of spending some money on costumes, but I dislike the over-the-top shoulders on almost all of them and I know you can’t hide costume shoulders directly.

However, if I were to buy and use a costume, and then uncheck the shoulders on my actual armor, would that carry over to the costume as well?

Thanks in advance.

So, you’re saying it works only for certain costumes while not for other?
Specifically I’ve been eyeballing the Braham costume. But man, that hideous spiny shoulder..

The Braham costume is not an outfit, it is an armor skin.

That means that it will not cover your armor, but instead be applied to your armor, allowing you to hide the shoulders successfully. However, you may not use it on Medium or Light characters and it will require Transmutation Charges (after using up the consumables obtained with the package, which grant you one free application of the skin).

Note: Your free application of the skin is one free application for every part of the skin, meaning you can apply the headpiece, shoulders, chest, gloves, etc once each for free by using up the item.

Ah okay, now I get it.

Well, seeing as though I’m still far from capping my first character, let alone having any worthwhile gear, I’ll just hold out on that one for some time at least.

Thanks for the intel.

No problem, keep in mind the general consensus on spending is:

You know you’re keeping the gear —> get/apply armor skins.
You’re leveling up or upgrading gear —> get an outfit.

Outfits can be put on over your clothes but, again, can’t always be customized. They also have 4 dye channels across all the clothes, which gives less flexibility. Sometimes, however, you may like an outfit so much that you prefer it over armor skins, in that case, feel free to get an outfit and use it even with your finalized gear.

Keep in mind, though, that armor skins (not just gem store armor skins) are all mix and match, meaning you can take just one piece or half of the pieces, or even all but one piece and it will work with other items.
