Per the latest update notes:
New weapon skins purchased with a Black Lion Claim Ticket are now tradable until used.
Now lucky people may get rich (imagine the price of the Jade Weapons…), but people will have a lot less reasons to buy the RNG boxes from the in-game store.

Except if they don’t have enough gold to buy the skins off the AH.
The RNG seems to lessen quite a bit as well with the new scraps.
Hooray for tradeable skins! Something I’ve been hollering for….since….well….ever. -so happy, she’s crying- Is this for past skins too? I won’t be able to log into the game for like….9 hours yet, so I can’t check anything out myself.
Edit: On a side note, even if not retroactive, so long as they continue the tradeable trend with future skins, I’ll be peachy. I’ll willing grind gold farming for something I like. =)

We know the RNG boxes sell A LOT, though. And that the main reason to buy them are the skins. If ArenaNet allows people to trade the skins, it will reward lucky people (who play the RNG gamble, get a skin and sell it for a fortune), and grinders who farmed a lot of gold and can make fortunes flipping the skins. All the while giving less money to ArenaNet.
IMO, it would have been better to just sell the skins in the Gem Store and keep them untradeable. Less RNG, more honest to players, ArenaNet still gets money and grinders can buy gems with gold anyway. Everyone wins.

I don’t think that is nessecarily true.
Back during Wintersday you could buy the weapon skins from the gem store and I’ve never seen just one person wielding one of those weapons.
It could of course be because they weren’t very pleasing to look at and quite ridicolous, but after they started selling skins through rng boxes I’ve seen more people using them.
That said, I wish we could just directly buy them.

I usually see people with the latest fad. I saw a lot of people with Wintersday weapons at the time, later I saw a lot of people with the Karka backpiece, and now everyone has the dragon wings with plenty of people using the Jade Weapons or more recently the Zenith weapons.
And I just used my three jade tickets yesterday…
Kill me.
So what’s the price of the coffers now? Haha.
oh good i dislike jade weapons skins and keep teh ticket in the bank, naw if there’s anet confirmation of dragon bash not occuring in next year mmmmmm i smell monies!
I see key farming for skins to sell as a viable gold earner…
Does not apply to jade weapons, only the new Aetherized skins.
These skins will always be vastly under valued due to the sheer ridiculousness of the RNG.
Right now it seems the drop rate for scraps is about 10%. That means you need to open ~500 chests to get enough scraps for a weapon (after this 1 week discount). That’s 500 keys… or 45,000 gems or 1350g or $500
Good luck with that lol…
