Rant - Localized Price Peaks
RIP City of Heroes
How long does it take for yours to sell, generally? If I put something up (usually rare gear,) and it doesn’t sell quickly, I don’t start second-guessing it until at a day later or so.
If I want something to sell immediately, then I’ll bite the bullet and feed a buy order, but, otherwise, I rarely find myself eating the listing fee to relist an item.
I get around it by not caring too much and just selling for whatever the market rate for the item is at the time. XD Usually this is midway between the buy/sell price (except for fast moving commodities, then I just list it at the lowest sell price), and then I just leave it. If the item still hasn’t sold within 2 days, I take it down and re-list it, but usually it’s gone by then.
Items sell on an 1-e^n discharge curve. Most sell quickly, within an hour or two, then there are ones that take longer. I leave them up until the TP says they’ve been there for a day, which we all know is longer than a day, closer to two (why is accurate elapse time so kitten difficult to implement on the TP? I put this up 5 hours ago not seconds ago). There may be only one to three items out of the original two dozen or so that need to be pulled and listed again since the price is so far out of whack or there’s a huge pile of cheaper priced just below it.
Minor runes don’t turn over quickly enough so a 200+ pile just below you in price will be not get eroded away in a reasonable period of time. Major runes do sell quickly, unless the price I’m basing mine on is unbeknownst to me as out of step historically.
So usually after a “TP day” I only have a couple types of minor runes left. It’s just after what seems to be a regular occurrence that I base my price on some out of whack spike that comes out of nowhere and watch how the “normal” price is some 30-40% lower got under my skin. It’s not frequently enough to force me to toggle over to the browser and lookup the price history of each item, when I do nothing is ever out of the ordinary. And so when I don’t, then I bump into this.
Just needed to let off some steam and post about what I’ve encountered from time to time.

Runes, eh? I’m guessing you have a Salvage-o-Matic?
I just throw all of mine into the Mystic Forge, then save the Majors for MF daily days. Occasionally I’ll get back a Superior rune, and sometimes it’s even one that I want!

I save all of them for MF daily days… But I do have a guild storage tab full of the stupid things! (the same for the sigils, medallions and seals).
No I buy minor extra cheap off the TP and MF them. Sell off the ones worth more than X and repeat with the remander until I have less than 4 cheap minors which I save, along with any soulbound ones for the next time I buy off the TP. Make around 150% profit for a half an hours worth of clicking and listing.

when there are some aggresive competitors undercutting everything than i say always to me “kitten it when you dont have brain than i destroy the market for you now” and sell my stuff on 5-9% for some weeks – i dont lose much cause i invest in a lot different things but this people move most time
i never understand why ppl post stuff and have ALWAYS to undercut even when only 10-20 are posted
im still for extra 5% TP fee when undercut something
The worst is when some clueless ‘profiteer’ puts in a new lower ceiling by selling double or more of the current listed sales volume worth of the item at way below the accepted sell price. That kitten sits there for weeks before they invariably delist, having finally realized their kitten is not selling, just floating in the water. And of course the stock from everyone who undercut that idiot’s listing needs to move too before the market recuperates.

Minor Runes and Sigils are very volatile right now due to the bugged Salvage-O-Matic.
So many more of those than usual enter the market.
You also have to consider that minor and mayor runes and sigils also are nearly exclusively used to throw them into the mystic forge to promote them.
The cheapest mayor rune will always be the one highest in demand, no matter wat stats or boni.
