Rare items re-re-release
As a speculator, I guess you have to take the good with the bad.
You win more than you lose.
I hope Scarlet’s Rifle isn’t included, though I only have one, so it’s not too much of a risk..
I try to stay away from skins because it can take months for the price to go up to a certain level, and the longer you go, the more risk you assume.
When S2 rolls by I think it’ll be safe to invest in those until the last chapter for S2. S1 is too risky.
Skins are too “feast or famine” for my taste.
I would feel bad for the guy who invested in over a hundred of the Scarlet’s Kiss. But yeah, speculation is speculation. You win and you lose. But to be fair, if a top exec says something isn’t coming back, and it comes back twice within a few months, something’s screwy.
To add salt to my wounds, I actually had some Buy Orders for more Monocles, thinking that I could catch a wave of cheap gear, and resell them in a month or so for a mid sized mark up. I guess some other investors had quicker patch DL times than I did, as they filled my order before I could log in and cancel them.

Well, this is what we mean when players complain about Anet not talking about their plans for the future. Did he say that they absolutely will not bring back these items, or that he doesn’t think they should be brought back? Because there are people at NCSoft/Anet who are above him, and others like JS who are there specifically to make decisions like that, and either could overrule what Colin thinks should be done.
Someone making a comment about what he thinks is not necessarily the same as that person stating an official decision or policy. If it’s good for the game as a whole, anything can and will be done regardless of what a specific individual wants.
And people wonder why they don’t talk to us.
RIP City of Heroes
China wants the stuff, I guess.

^ That. I’m sorry for your loss, but that’s part and parcel of speculation.

It would be a risk if Colin Johnson didnt claim they will not be rereleased.
China will just ruin the NA/EU game, it was a terrible idea to have them synched.

In the grand scheme of things, NOT really. There is only one reason why syncing might be bad and that is IF the game fails, but that doesn’t affect us in any meaningful way.
rereleasing items only punishes the hoarders, but I doubt Arenanet cares if it devalues those items because that is significantly cheaper than having redesign a few things JUST to make less than 100 hoarders happy.
They will be missing a lot of skins and Arenanet would either have to remove them from the UI, which leads to having to keep track of more versions of the game than it is necessary.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
rereleasing also ruins the exclusivity of items. the gas mask for example no longer shows that you took part of that chapter of the living story
GW2 is all about cosmetic progression and rewards, rereleasing this stuff complety ruins it
and dont tell me strawman arguments about special snowflakes
each patch I am more and more disappointed and angry about this game. This week I got perm banned, but after a ticket the ban got lifted since the ban was a mistake.
(Strangely enough I wasnt even one bit angry or frustrated by being innocently banned, even thought I spent 5k+ hours on getting where I am – I guess that tells about how much I enjoy this game currently)
All this stuff makes me think writing this ticket was a waste of time, because everything in this game gets watered down more and more
just more and more pointless grinding with nothing to show for it what so ever

If GW2 is about cosmetic progression and working towards a “look” that you want, then wouldn’t it make sense to allow newer players to obtain specific items from past events too? After all, it’s what their “goal” is, same as someone who plays to get Dungeon Master or Dragon rank in sPvP.
The way I see it, it would be bad business to tell newer players “no, there’s no way you can’t ever access the stuff you want”. New players are the lifeblood of any game; creating an unwelcoming atmosphere just discourages them from joining and ultimately chokes off ANet’s income. Older players WILL eventually leave as new games come out, RL intervenes or they just get bored, and eventually the community becomes so insular and closed-off that it dies.
I am happy they are re-released, it doesn’t bother me that someone can earn them like I did.
I am surprised that any speculators were surprised by this. ANet has shown great reluctance to release truly exclusive items, even for souvenirs in the “I was there” sense. They have instead gone for limited-availability items, including the special dyes and things like the Monocle.
But even so, it hardly is going to matter much in the long run: the prices might tank for a week or three, but shortly afterward, they go up again, sometimes exceeding their previous values.
(Incidentally, I picked up my monocle when it was dropping during the defense of LA, i.e. this week isn’t the first time that item was re-released.)
