I’ve got four figures in cash/mats and I like when my money is working for me (not sitting in the account all useless like). I’m also quite lazy and have terrible memory, so both small scale fast moving products and long term investments are not my preferred markets.

Which markets should one such as I focus on ? I’m thinking of MF weapons crafting, maybe precursor/legendary crafting.. anyone willing to offer some advice ?

If you are lazy and have terrible memory, i wouldnt advice you to play the TP.

This was useful. You will only lose gold if you try to play the tp with those qualities of laziness and forgetfulness.

edit: Playing the tp effectively requires hours of research when you are getting started. I have 40-50 markets I play around with based on the cost of mats and what I have stocked up on. But making the right decisions are based off experience and knowing the trends that have already happened through research.

For example: I was crafting lemongrass for a while. I followed the price of mats on spidy and would buy low in bulk and then craft when the pots were priced high. I got lucky at one point though. When i was checking all the different materials I noticed that rosemary was really cheap(66c) and I had remembered that it had been really high during season 1. I bought a metric kittenton and quadrupled my investment. But I would never have caught that without my memory or if I was lazy and didnt check the websites available.

You will need to research market trends, follow items and know what items have an effect on other items, which ones move faster and which ones respond slower to changes. You will also need to be 2 steps ahead of the everyone else on upcoming releases, by following and remembering what devs say in interviews, and what dataminers find.

I know people love to complain about how TP players just click some buttons and make 100,000g, but if that were true then everyone would be doing it. The fact is that it takes significant time, research and experimentation to find the most promising markets.

If you just want a safe bet then invest in anything that is currently at vendor price. The most you can lose is 15% and it can’t go anywhere but up.

Right, it looks like I should’ve elaborated a bit more on my situation. My apologies for being too laconic.

By lazy I mean I don’t like to click a bunch of times for 10000 silver ingots or to open 1250 heavy loot bags or craft 750 rare lv73 swords… and then rinse and repeat day in/day out.
Upgrading materials, making items in bulk, buying low, refining/crafting/salvaging and selling high may all be a great investment… but, while finding a market may be somewhat exciting (not really, there’s tons of ways to make money on TP) the rest of the process is terribly time consuming and mind-numbingly dull for me.
I’m looking for something bigger and I don’t mind lower margins or whatever.. After all, in my mind, it’s better to get 1% ROI on 5000g item that I can sell in a few days then having 50% ROI on 500g bulk items that sell like hot cakes, but having to work my kitten off. I hope I’m making sense..

In short, what I’m trying to say is that I’d rather work as an investment banker then a meat packing king who prefers to get down and dirty instead of managing his empire from his villa.

EDIT: I guess another way to describe what I’m looking for is a market that values time investment over raw profits.

Rare skins speculation.

High upfront cost, low maintenance, decent profit potential, but low volume.

Basically, buy up some rare skins when they are dropping (i.e. cheap) then hold on to them until the price goes up.

The only real risk is ArenaNet dropping a new source of the skin, but that’s pretty infrequent and somewhat predictable going forward.

LS season two is going to be repeatable content, so you know some players are going to “farm” these events to get rare drops and such… as well as new players buying past events through the gem shop to get rewards they missed. This will probably have an effect on the rare skins market, similar to the recent reintroduction of past rewards. Your long term investments may not be so safe any more.

AFAIK, they are still planning to introduce a crafting/quest/something method for obtaining a precursor, and also announced last year there would eventually be non-weapon Legendary gear. When these are announced, T6 and maybe T5 crafting materials supplies are going to dry up faster than a mud puddle in hell.

If you’re looking for long term investments, keep an eye on prices and buy as much as you can of any crafting mat that could be used for Legendaries, including trinkets/jewelry/backpieces.

His advice was quite honest. There is no easy way to make money on the TP. You can work hard or get lucky a few times, but there is no consistent way without putting in some effort.

@Brother Grimm: Well, I must be really lucky then since probably around 1/2 of what I have came from TP, and I’ve rarely spent more then an hour a week on it.

@mtpelion: Thanks for the suggestion. Alas, that is already my primary source of TP income
It does have everything that you mentioned, but I was hoping for something that is closer to the regular investments… something a bit less time dependent, maybe a bit more profitable, but something that can be reached with comparable amount of effort.. but it looks like that’s just a pipe dream after all, and I’m just wasting everyone’s time.

@tolunart: Thanks for your advice as well. I do already have some t5 and t6 mats stocked (I’m kinda hoping t6 price will drop sometime soon before I get a stack or two more).
I do however disagree about the living story part. From dev video posted a couple of days back, the only repeatable part will be the story itself (instanced content) which will grant us what previously was meta achievement loot. The rest of the content should follow the same rules as earlier releases.

Find the recipe for http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/3858 and create some competition in that market. Or be the first one to find out how to get this recipe http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/6526

Sorry don’t think many people are willing to give away their real (in-game) money making markets so that you can be their competition unless it will boost the prices of items they wanna sell that being said, Putrid Essence Anyone?
