Recent shortages...
Heh, well said.
Inb4 brown noses.
At a guess, most of the farmers right now are in Southsun, which has only a few T6 mats, not Orr. Less people farming in Orr, less T6 mats supply in the TP.
What specific mats do you feel our out of whack. How did you come to this conclusion?
As for T6 Wood. It is fine. As a matter of fact right now supply exceeds demand.
Supply: 179997
Demand: 48518
demand development is useless to follow or compare
All these new threads about farming nerfs and T6 ….wait 1 week …then we talk again
And ye u can do whatever u want with your gold….trying to control bigsupplymarkets in the longterm is foolish anyway
It’s not restricted to one tier; it’s almost all of them. I doubt that Southsun dragged such a high percentage of players as to cause such a shortage. It’s not likely, right? I guess people will eventually bring down the prices again (or not) but I was curious as to how such a thing could happen for the first time since release. e.g. http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19702

Were you in Southsun during this event? Tons of people there 24/7 and each level 80 farming there is one less person who would otherwise be farming in another area.
Platinum is actually Tier 4. The stock of mats have been vanishing because less and less people go in the 60-70 level areas. Starter zones are still covered because of the dailies.
If you look at the all time view you will find that they are actually rather steady.

Most characters are level 80 and have very little reason to return to the 60-70 level areas.
And yes I do believe that Southsun dragged such a high percentage of players out of the other areas. I have frequently been put in overflow in Southsun and that has not happened to me since release.
A spike like that means that now is a good time to dump your stock of platinum. The demand is still high but not a lot of people selling for one reason or another.
But then again, how could hundreds of thousands of mats go so fast? Even with players not going back to those low lvl areas or just farming Southsun; could alts or new players end with such a stock? Idk, it just seems weird sometimes…
Remember this is a game wide economy. Not a server per server. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of buy orders.
Starting out at the peak the average was at ~766k buy orders with a sell order averaging ~2727k sell orders. Sell orders stopped at the high volume they were at about the 14-16th of May due to southsun and increased rewards over there. It took about 5-6 days before the gap between buy and sell orders started to significantly spread. To make matters worse the number of buy orders increased as those that would have normally farmed for the mats themselves decided it was more worth it to concentrate on southsun. Taking buy orders average to 1000k+ from there price started to really spike when the supply ran out and was signifficently less then demand.
It did not go fast. This started as soon as southsun was released. 05/14/2013 prices really did not start to skyrocket until about the 24th of May. When there was a higher incentive to farm elsewhere. (Hum… I wonder if this will tell you how valuable farming is to the economy. ) There was more incentive elsewhere. There were magic finds and gold buffs in southsun. Levels 1-80 could participate due to upleveling. So it is not just level 80 areas that are taking a hit but all areas of the game.
Also not all mats were effected Tier 5 mats did not take as big of a hit.
Mithrill Ore —- Supply well exceeds demand. Price is steady overall on the long term. But on the rise on the one month term. —- Interesting with supply exceeding demand so much.

Large Scale —- Supply exceeds demand. But not by much. — This seams to be on a larger roller coster then most. I am not a economist so I don’t know the exact term.

Vial[s] of Potent Blood —Supply exceeds demand. But not by much. --- Price is stable.

Some Tier 6 mats that are found in Southsun are also stable.
Vial[s] of Powerful Blood

Vicious Claw

While some are on a steady incline like Tier 6 dust

And some are on a steady decline trying to stable out. Like Tier 6 Scale.

If you take a look at what mobs drop what and where you will begin to see why some mats price are skyrocking while others lower are declining. Also take a look at where the majority of players are.
If you look at all the graphs you will notice that SouthSun affected the economy greatly. I can say this due to they all pivot at about the 14th.
Hmm… seems legit! Thanks for the insight!!
The stocks of mats are quite simply vanishing lately. So, is this the “free market” Anet brags about? Can someone kindly explain why is it ok for all the wood, ore, t6 mats, etc. to vanish screwing most of us over? How does this happen?!!
Screwing you over how? The only endgame thing gold is guaranteed to buy is icy runestones. After that you’re welcome to come out and harvest mats rather than try and trade (declining) gold for them. The nodes are still there and in almost all cases so are the mobs .
If you’re unwilling to do the labor yourself you can hardly complain someone else wants to be well paid for doing it for you.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
I can bring an example, Armored scale prices decreased from 28 to 25, not bad at all, and that’s thanks to Southsun farming.
Not everything went bad, althought it would have been nice if Anet didn’t touch the Skelk spawn there…
T6 fine mats were being pushed down in price by a relatively large number of full time Union farmers. With that farm squashed and its previous farmers moving to instigators, prices were inevitably going to creep up from the lower supply.
As for lower tier metal and wood, I stopped seeing teleporting gathering bots on a regular basis a couple weeks ago, right around the time prices started to creep up on all those materials. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that particular exploit was far, far more widespread than most people think, and was single-handedly responsible for keeping ore prices low. What you’re seeing now is closer to the price of those materials when bots aren’t trashing the market.
At a guess, most of the farmers right now are in Southsun, which has only a few T6 mats, not Orr. Less people farming in Orr, less T6 mats supply in the TP.
Who says they’re going BACK to Orr?? Everyone (but me) hates Orr. It’s part of the reason so many casual people quit this game right after release. People wanted an Epic End-game. What they got instead was an ugly rehash of the Realm of Anguish when what they really wanted was a F.O.W. or something that felt familiar to WOW
Starting next week is the new farm, the farm for Dragon Festivus. Even I’m going to be doing that one b/c I want those frikkin wings! …And I bet it won’t be Orr that has the quickest drops for that.
Low level mats seem to be risen fairly substantially in the last few weeks. Last night I sold a stack of Iron Ore for about 23 copper each. Prior to the Southsun event, I remember the price was fairly stable around 10 – 12 copper. The rise surprised me, but I’m not going to argue with more profit. XD
