Regarding current gem to gold conversion
If more people sell gems for gold than buy gems with gold then the price goes down.
They just finished nerfing the last of the gold generating methods in the game. Pretty much the only way to get gold in a reliable manner is either a- playing the TP or b- with a credit card.
Hence the announcement.
I think the real reason the gold-to-gems price is going up is because of people using a “cheap” source of gold to buy their gems. Thank you thieving scum.

I haven’t changed the methods I’ve used to make gold recently:
- If farming mats, choose ones that are in high demand.
- Dungeons are still a high value per time spent.
- Choosing the right things to craft (and either sell or salvage for ecto).
- Mystic Forging low value items that can be promoted to high value ones (notably fine or masterwork dyes, and sometimes sigils/runes).
In addition, you can earn a lot from Frostgorge, World Boss chasing, EotM, and Orrian event chains, among others.
So, no, they haven’t nerfed anything but the newbie zone champ farms (and that was partly/largely due to non-economic reasons). And no, I’ve never felt the need to buy gems to convert to gold.

Remember that you can exchange gems and gold at our currency exchange on the second tab of the Black Lion Trading Company! Currently, you can get 1 gold for about 15 gems and 50 gold for about 670 gems!

Again, it doesn’t take a team of 300 to crank out an item a week, bring back something popular or put something on sale. Real content takes months to create. What we are seeing is the work of a couple of artists and in the case of the armor they are releasing it slowly over weeks at two items at a time and we knew that 4 minis were coming over four weeks.
And for those who aren’t enticed by items may be enticed by gold for gems.
Don’t forget the game depends on cash sales of gems for it’s continued development. So we will see announcements twice a week, Tuesday and Friday, every week and you all should not be surprised and shocked any more.

That is right, I just don’t understand why people here can be so illogical. If nobody pays ANet any real money, how do you think they pay their staff? With virtual gold?
People who dish out the real money are the ones directly keeping the game up and running. Yet others are persecuting them for using a legit method of converting gems to gold through the gem store! Ridiculous!

3. Also nerfed with mega server changes. Still viable for lower tier mats, no longer viable for T6.
The methods are getting less and less, and the output is getting smaller. Coincidentally, you can get more gold than ever from your credit card!

1. The people that buy gold with gems are also generally not min-maxers but casual players. Casual players are generally not min-maxers, at least not the ones to do the optimum dungeon route or tactics to maximize gold.
2. The ones that used guesting to get more world bosses with different characers are generally also farmers.
3. Gathering mats affects everybody equally, so the prices should be more stable.
The point, everything you said is the exact opposite of your intent. The ones affected by these changes are generally the ways that introduce more gold into the system which leads to inflation aka farmers. Farmers are the reason why gold has been increasing at a very high rate, so all these changes you are complaining about doesn’t actually negatively impact the players more likely to do gem to gold conversion. They do gem to gold because they things are expensive and they can’t compete.

Considering the fact that I am one of the people who buy gold with gems, that statement is probably an “over-generalization”.
1. Not really, all you manage to accomplish was show you don’t know what “generally” really means. The whole purpose of using generally was that there are exceptions.
3. If you are a farmer, there is almost no real reason to ever engage in gem to gold trade because you be making more than enough gold to serve your purposes.
Just to be clear i mean $$ to gem to gold trade not gold to gem to gold.

Since you did not provide any scientific survey data to substantiate your point, what you are saying is only a matter of personal opinion, so it doesn’t matter if you think it is “generally” true or not. That is still an over-generalization to me.
Presumably, there are more people buying the game all the time, and what about the China release?
They obviously wanted more money and market share so they did the extra work for a China release. If ANet didn’t think that they wanted more profits, they wouldn’t have setup the gem store, so you can use real money to buy stuff, in the first place.
