Sad surprise with Black Lion Ticket
You could have just bought the staff skin from the TP for 65g or whatever….
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
It’s 84g on the Trading Post, why would you spend more gold chasing the ticket scraps?
It’s always 1 ticket during the release patch, then it goes up to 5 tickets.
The prices rising to multiple tickets is dumb. Collecting 10 scraps is far too expensive as it is. The cost to get one of the weapon skins is insanely steep even when it only cost one golden ticket. Would be nice if weapon skins all cost one golden ticket and you could buy a golden ticket for 8-10 dollars. I might actually spend money on weapon skins then. I refuse to spend money on random scraps and end up spending 50 dollars for one dumb skin.
Save the Ticket for the next RNG weapon release I guess.
It’s been this way for months. The skins are 1 ticket while that part if the LS is active, then become 5+ tickets after. A little research goes a long way, looking at the other items the vendor has should have been a huge clue, but checking things like the forums and the wiki are also great ideas before any purchase.
Dreamthistle weapon skins are now available from Black Lion Weapons Specialists and cost only 1 Black Lion Claim Ticket from now until November 25. Players can get Black Lion Claim Tickets and Black Lion Claim Ticket Scraps from Black Lion Chests, which can be unlocked with Black Lion Chest Keys available in the Consumable category of the Gem Store.
Sorry you were only a week or so too late.
It’s not really the company’s fault if you fail to do your research, maybe that sounds harsh but that is your problem here.

Easy one, because you hope to get it sooner, cheaper. The whole RNG system for skins is kitten. I don’t even look the skins up anymore, when they are released.
OP, I understand your anger. Just don’t pay for gems anymore. It is the only language they will understand.
Yeah, now I might aswell buy it on the TP – however that doesn’t change the facts, does it? Or does anyone really think 5 tickets at all the current price rates/gem purchase/exchange/etc. is realistic? ._.
I’ll just save the ticket I have and hope some day there will be a skin I like again LOL And now to make 85g >.>

Luckily I learned this a while back. I got a ticket but when I went to check the weapons it turned that I needed 3-5. Fortunately the Zodiac weapons were still 1 ticket so I got one of those. I thought it was actually based on how many people bought them that made the amount of tickets increase so I got my tickets asap as soon as the dreamthistle weapons came out.

Its not meant to be a “realistic” way to get the weapons, I don’t think. Its meant to be a long-term fallback to getting a skin you really want if you miss the initial introduction of said skin.
Its basically a limited-time event skin, but instead of removing it from the game completely after the event ends, they just raise the ticket price. In that way they preserve the exclusiveness of it being an event skin to some degree without just removing any and all ways to acquire it after.
I’ll take excessively high ticket prices over taking the item out entirely.
The mined drop stats on tickets and scraps is around 1 in 40 and 1 in 4 respectively. That means about 1 ticket per 20 chests or 100 chests for 5 tickets. 100 chests need 100 keys and keys are 2100 gems per 25 so 8200 gems on average if the drop stats are correct. That’s over $100 in gems.
Tickets are a way to obfuscate the actual out of pocket cost for a skin. People made fun of EVE and players nearly rioted when they introduced a $60 dollar monocle. Yes you could always buy the gems with a ton of in game gold or buy it when it was only 1 ticket instead of 5 (or 7) but in the end it turns out to be a ridiculously priced luxury item post LS.

also, they don’t price keys for how many tickets they give. they price them for all the other useless stuff you get – boosters, heavy bag of coin, single-use summon-a-merchant, etc.

True, tickets (and scraps) are the foil/hologram cards in the pack. Fact you can trade them in for something cooler is simply a “bonus” because everybody is buying keys for chests for the item sampler, right?

This is why you need to do research before making a major purchase. If you intend on spending 700 Gold for something, it’s always good to understand how the market flows. You shouldn’t just go out and drop the money like it was nothing. Slow down, and take the time to look at everything before pressing that Buy button, or the Exchange Gold → Gem button.
It was stated in the beginning that weapon skin promos for 1 ticket were temporary. If you wanted it for the discounted price, you should have taken advantage of it sooner. Also, Anet now allows us to sell the skins on the Trading Post, thus eliminating the need to play the RNG game.
So saying stuff like “I have decided to not give a penny anymore, until these crazy grinding amounts are fixed”, without knowing that a fix was already done, only serves to make the whole argument moot.
5 tickets for one weapon skin? Really? Seeing how the scrap drop rate is less than 50%, that’s more than 9000 gems per weapon. That’s more than $110 in direct gem purchase. That’s more than 760 in game gold. For. One. Weapon. Skin. Those are PRECURSOR prices folks…
Your calculation is extremely flawed because you dont value all the other drops you get from the chests.
As each weapon skin is available on the tp for far less than 760g, i dont know what you are complaining about.

I don’t know why anybody actually buys keys for these items. I buy at least 10 of the skins from the tp every new wave of skins for the same price you’ll pay to get a couple tickets the legit way. The fact is, people getting tickets from free blk drops and personal story make the skins far undervalued on the tp compared to what they are actually worth from a gem to gold conversion standpoint.

OP did you start farming for the ticket when the skin was released? It’s been 5 tickets for some time now. However I think it’s an important point to distinguish that it took a player more time than the sale exists to acquire the skins through in-game methods.
Of course it can be argued that the skins are designed to be purchased with real money, but I think it still stands that OP saw something he wanted and playing the game was not enough to accomplish the item during its prime availability.
This is a problem because ANet stands resolutely behind the fact that you can play their game at a normal pace to achieve anything you want.
Of course if OP began farming just before the sale needed then this is a totally different story but the fact that it happens outside of this particular case is still something to think about.
Buy something from the next set for 1 ticket, sell it on the TP and buy the Dreamthistle skin you actually want (on the TP) using the proceeds.

90g spent is better than the 350g I spent trying to get my Molten Longbow. Was worth it though! ;D
The prices rising to multiple tickets is dumb
It’s not dumb for the seller. Instilling a sense of urgency for the buyer to complete the purchase now instead of later is a classic and proven sales tactic.
The mined drop stats on tickets and scraps is around 1 in 40 and 1 in 4 respectively.
FYI
During the last key sale, I opened 60 BLc’s
Tickets: 0
Scraps: 17
