better salvage gold and green items or sell them for 22-30+ on TP or to the merchant

simlified formula incomming
for rares:
if ecto-price*0.9=itemprice or higher -> slavage (if salvaging with master/mystic kit)
if ecto-price*0.9<itemprice -> sell

A rule of thumb for greens:
Salvage everything under 2s

I sell all rares on tp, and not to lowest bidder, just a few copper below lowest seller seems to have worked just fine. I prefer not to salvage the rares I’m of the minds set a rare in the hand is worth more than 2 ecto in the bush. That’s just me though

And I follow the math

I would follow the math if it was a sure thing. But since its random, and in my case. Luck just doesn’t seem to be with me on that. Since I’ve ended up with a piece of wood that was worth 29s more often than not.
I know statically a set amount of ecto “should” be forthcoming. But statics are not a sure thing.
I know some people seem to be very successful when they salvage. And totally understand why they would.
If the math was a “guarantee” I would certainly follow it.

there’s also the rune/sigil those rares have. so technically:
if (item_price > ecto_price * 0.9 + 3s * 0.8) sell it
if ectos sell for 32s, then that puts the cutoff at 31.2s
I like to simply it as:
if (item_price > ecto_price) sell it
I think runes tend to go for 3.5s and sigils 2.5s, but I chose 3s for simplicity

@danielrjones: Then you’re operating at a different quantitive level then I am. If you could salvage 2-4 per day and don’t want to risk anything sure. You’ll sell it to guys like me.
@Mystic: If we’re going to be precise you can calculate in the crafting mats salvagerate aswell. But since I’m not going to do that I’ve just noted that it’s a ->simplified formula.
@freeelancer: I’m not gonna pack out my formulas for every item type out there. I’ve put in work for that and save it for when I have finished my 300%mf.

As I’m still working towards 150% MF and I’m padding up my Ecto stockpile, I salvage everything, but once I hit my target, I’m switching strategy to:

1. Salvage all whites and blues
2. Sell greens if they’re worth a good bit more than their vendor value. (Current exception: salvage all cloth armors, regardless of tier)
3. Sell Rares if they’re worth more than 50 silver, otherwise salvage.
4. Sell Exotics if they’re worth more than 1.5 gold, otherwise salvage for Ectos and Dark Matter. (Exception: Exotics that can drop inscriptions/insignia always get salvaged unless they’re extremely expensive.)

@Disdroid, I’m thankful people buy the rares I sell for 29-32s usually about 40+ day. If someone can get 96 ecto from that great. Just this type of math can also be used in casinos and I don’t frequent those as well. I no longer salvage greens or blues either. Hit 300% mf base some time ago.
