Salvaging Kits, chance of rarer materials.
Rares material (for level 70-80) is Mithril/Silk/Elder Wood. The upgrade applied gives you a tier 6 ingredient: Orichalcum, Gossamer, Ancient Wood.
Ectoplasm drop rates are 0,1,2,3 on rares 68-80 (higher chance the higher level). People have done math to state that the chance of getting AN ecto is approximately 0.8:1, meaning it’ll average to about 8 for every 10 you salvage.
I appreciate your reply, but this post has nothing to do with the ecto drop rate. I have no problem with the salvagedrop rates, as I’ve made 180 ectos in 6 days.
My question here is regarding the mechanics regarding salvaging a rare heavy piece of armour, which only rare materials to be dropped are orichalcum, and ectos.
Please re-read my post and understand the words and logic, because your reply didn’t really add to the topic of this thread. I don’t want this to become another ecto thread
Well, I’m guessing, but I should imagine it means 25% change to recover ONE of the rare materials. (With presumably a 50:50 chance of it being A or B. )
I’ve found the recovery of materials to be generally a loss. It looks more effective to simply sell the item on TB/vendor (whichever is higher) then buy the item I want.
You are asking a question that no1 knows for sure.
First of all, we need to check what does the percentage is all about.
For the Globs ectoplasms we know they can be salvaged into 3, 2, 1 or 0 for each lv70-80 rare. Considering that they are independent of other factors and all these cases are the total possible outcomes, then, you have 18,75% of chance to drop at least 1 Ecto! (25% x 3/4 of the cases)!
Let’s make the assumption that the rarer crafting materials that can be salvaged into, also works based on this pattern, then:
A have a chance of 18,75%
B have a chance of 18,75%.
Now there are some other variables that should be accounted for. Tridents for example, need Ore and wood to be produced. So there are 2 types of rarer materials that can be salvaged into. Does this make an impact on the odds?
Also, does the table have a salvage amount chance (Chance to drop nothing, 1 material, 2 materials)? If they have, are they evenly distributed?
In conclusion, we can’t issue a theory based in absolutely vague hypothesis. There are to many unaccounted variables that may change the outcome enormously!

Ok, that made sense. I even forgot about the fact that a trident uses both ore and wood.
Thanks for your input.
You realize that a rare heavy armor will give you mithril and orichalcum which I stated in my post.
By default, you have a x% chance to recover rarer materials. What that means is instead of salvaging something like mithril, you’ll receive orichalcum.
When you have a 25% increased chance, it supposedly means you have a (x% * 1.25)% chance. Someone said this a long time ago (maybe a month or so after launch) after testing fine vs basic vs crude kits to salvage hundreds of cloth scraps to get gossamer. A more accurate test would be using rare or black lion kits, to see if it’s multiplied or added.
Ectos are another story. You have somewhere around an 85% chance to yield 1 ecto per rare. If the % chance to recover rarer materials applied to ectos, black lion kits would yield a guaranteed ecto, which they don’t.
Lastly, upgrades are anything that is in the item’s upgrade slot, whether it be a rune, gem or jewel.
