Q:

I am aware that the direct trading of in-game items for in-game currency with other players in gw2 is discouraged however am unsure of ArenaNet’s exact position on this.
Can anybody advise as to whether doing so would be against the Code of Conduct?

(from what I can gather it would not, as the ‘Infractions’ list only includes trading items for ‘real world currency’
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-conduct-breaches-outcomes/

Excerpt from ‘In-Game Infractions’:
“Selling or buying a Guild Wars 2 account, in-game item, service or gold for real-world currency in a manner not authorized by Guild Wars 2 and us; selling a Guild Wars 2 account for in-game currency; aiding others in such transactions, or advertising the intent to commit such acts”)

Specifically I have crafted a legendary weapon and would like to sell it, but neither have nor wish to pay the 15% listing/exchange fee. Naturally I am aware of and accept the risks involved with direct player to player trading.
From a moderator forum post I have gathered that selling dungeon paths using the LFG system is acceptable conduct, therefore I am also curious as to whether using the LFG system to find a buyer for a high value item (such as a Legendary weapon) is allowed:

Please advise

A:

You can trade your legendary over mail but you are not allowed to use the LFG Tool to advertise your sale because its not the intended purpose of the LFG Tool.

I agree with you. The LFG tool is not a grey market tool.

Maybe you’ll find your answer there, or in one of the linked posts in that thread.

Can anyone explain to me why selling dungeon paths on LFG is specifically allowed but selling items on LFG is specifically agreed it should be against the rules? If one is allowed, that’s a strong argument to allow the other. “I’m looking for a group of people who are interested in buying a twilight for 3000g”
(Btw: He didn’t actually say it’s against the rules, just that JS agrees it should be)

He said the LFG tool is not a grey market tool and he clarified what a grey market is:

“A grey market is the trade of a commodity through distribution channels which, while legal, are unofficial, unauthorized, or unintended by the original manufacturer. "

I don’t read that as, “you will be banned for using LFG to sell stuff”, I read that as, “I think people who use LFG to sell stuff should be banned.”
I’m probably missing some implied officiality because he has a red tag, but I always felt JS was less strict about formality than most (joking about suggestions and updates, sarcasm, etc)

I still wonder that people want to sell expensive stuff to totally strangers they find
over the LFG tool .. with the chance of maybe 99% to get scammed.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Yeah but it happens every day.

But please remember that it’s really not a good idea to make such a valuable trade. I see tickets everyday where someone loses a legendary or piles of gold this way.

I could understand if that happens if someone maybe wanted to trade with a
guild member, where he thought he can trust that person .. but using LFG .. that
just cries : Here .. steal all my stuff .. i give you all my money also
