Setting a Price "limit"
that’s already the way it is. the only thing is that the minimum price does not count the fee, so you can end up with a bit less then the merchant price.
Totally agree with ZierJT. We have a limit to post, should be a limit to bid. Also wish Anet were more honest…. maybe that should just be “honest”…. in the way they run Trading post. They are gouging, and would be arrested in the real world for dishonest trading practices. Full fee disclosure Anet !!! New concept… try it !!!
Silk Greywin, what do you mean full fee disclosure? They give the posting fee and the projected profit (which should probably be renamed revenue after posting fee).
Nevertheless, I posted a similar suggestion a while ago, and I came to appreciate the following, and assuredly rare, situation where one has a full inventory and does not want to salvage an item. If you need to quickly make room in your inventory, or cannot get to a vendor (because you are in a dungeon/fractal), then it would be acceptable to put the item on the trading post at the vendor price just to get rid of it.

There is an upfront listing fee they show and the projected profit.
What they DO NOT show is the Net Profit AFTER the TP Tax.

I’m cool with them not showing the net profit after tax. Yeah it would be helpful but we are smart, we can do the math ourselves.

They do show the amount of money you get after the TP tax. They just don’t subtract the listing fee from it, so it’s not really “profit” until you take away the fee you paid.
Ex. You list an item for 100g. You paid 5g to do this and it shows a projected profit of 90g. So your real profit (including the initial listing fee) is 85g.
People don’t understand how it works and don’t pay attention to what is there. It’s just easier to come to the forums and say Anet is being dishonest.
Maybe it would be cool if the TP showed the revenue taking the listing fee into consideration. Maybe it’s part of the game to do your math.
Either way, the information is there. They are not hiding anything. It’s more than clear the TP takes away 15% (5% for the listing fee, and another 10% upon sale). Just look at the info that is out there.
ANet has some…issues…with providing important information in-game, as it is. Look at all the tooltips and item descriptions that give you generic info such as “nearby allies” or “some amount of health” when that information is stupidly easy to relate in numbers people can understand and make use of more immediately.
They can very easily note, in the spot where the projected end profit is shown, that there is a 10% closing/time of sale/whatever fee included, if ONLY to be clear to those using the TP for the first time. It only makes for potential confusion and more support tickets.
Alternatively or in addition, they could provide a little “How it Works” tab for new players, or a simple notation to visit the official (albeit not staff-updated…) wiki for information.
