Edited title to better suit what I really meant
Simply put:

Considering that the game is continually getting cheaper/multiple sales, etc. Shouldn’t the Gem rates adapt to this?

Currently if you’re wanting to buy 5 more char slots…it’s cheaper to do so by means of buying a new copy of the game, rather than spend significantly more for more slots.
Sure, the devs are making things more alt-friendly, but it’s few and far between – and i’m not sure the convenience factor of ‘everything on one account’ will hold much when the prices gap will continually increase.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I should mention…i like making new chars….and I’m not a hardcore player, or one that has gold pouring out of every hole in my body to pay for the costs of gem conversion, however, i do have RL money, but not enough to make it worth anything in game

Why would they decrease the price of gems? That makes no sense from a business standpoint. People are buying the gems left and right, regardless of the price… so, if anything, they should increase the price of gems because people would still buy them.

Blame the players for buying overpriced gems, not the business for setting the price.

The price of gems isn’t controlled by Arenanet, it’s controlled by the players.
The more players buy gems with gold, the higher the price will rise.

I don’t attract, I don’t repel. That’s kinda odd

I think he means buying gems with cash not gold.

Buying Gems with cash is this game’s lifeblood. It keeps the game running the same way monthly subscriptions does in WoW.

According to the OP’s logic then subscription based games should lower their monthly price as well and we know that isn’t going to happen.

As for prices in the Gem Shop, well that’s determined by retail 101 and when an item’s popularity drops … SALE, followed by a return to it’s previous price a few days/weeks later. Boards would explode if the gem price of an item is ever raised so conversely the act of lowering a price would be permanent and something that would have to be carefully considered.

As for the 5 slots cheaper from a new game than buying slots, well I hope you can keep track of all your e-mail addresses because they would let you have two accounts connected to the same e-mail address.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

If you can’t afford to buy them then wait for a sale.
At current rates it would take about 12 days AC 1,2,3 for a slot but that is assuming you are just relying on the gold at the end. You can use the tokens to get more gold and cut down on the time.

Gems are free if you exchange with your in game Gold. I suggest playing the mini-game “Black Lion Trading Post” to make some quick coin.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

The gem system isn’t broken. Its behavior benefits ANet.

Unfortunately, it IS gradually becoming less tolerable for those of us who dislike farming gold or spending RL cash for cool stuff, and just want to play the game.

As players, we just need to accept the fact that playing the game as the buy-to-play game we paid for, and not as a job, and not throwing extra money at it, means that it’s going to take far longer to get your shinies.

I find it unlikely that ANet is going to change how they’re doing things at this point.

It’s poor business sense to drop the price of a product (gems) that a company has a monopoly over, and a product that is selling well.

And then when you consider this product is a large income source for this game…

That reads like “I want everything handed to me for free” because if you aren’t going to pay for it with virtual currency nor are you going to pay for it with real currency then it doesn’t seem like there is any other way you are willing to pay.

As a player I’ve come to accept that the game needs a revenue. There are some things that are worth paying for with cash and some that are not. What those things are will be down to personal preferences. A product with no revenue is a product that is no longer worth keeping around.
