As we know Lionguard Lyns has been disabled for the time being. I couldn’t help but wonder why. Then I put on my tinfoil hat and started thinking.

Black Lion Keys!

With the update to the Black Lion chests demand for said keys has increased. Currently if one were to buy the 5/450 pack each key would run 90 gems, which currently costs 2g 10s worth of ig gold.

Now via Lionguard Lyns we were able to convert certain items to trade for keys at an exchange of 1 key per 62s. That’s over 3 times cheaper than currently available since she has been disabled.

It is of my tinfoil hat reasoning that the discrepancy here is the reason why she has been disabled. I mean who in their right mind would pay 3.3 times the amount of ig gold to obtain keys via buying gems?

In another thread which is now closed, the answer given to why she was disabled was the patch noted saying “Commendation vendor Lionguard Lyns is restocking her goods and is not accepting commendations at this time. She will begin accepting commendations again soon.”. Now don’t get me wrong here, I know in rl restocking is an issue, but it’s not valid here.

Again my tinfoil speculation is that key rates will be adjusted once she is enabled once again. I could be wrong….I hope I’m wrong. Maybe the initial surge of gem purchases will be enough to reason reinstating such a discrepancy.

Oh well…idk….What are ya’lls (I know it’s "y’all…dialect issue) thoughts on this? Am I crazy? Do I need to make a bigger hat?

I’m going to be really disappointed if she comes back without BLKs. It was really the only thing she was good for after you got 2000 commendations once.

I mean really what else is there worth spending 2k+ commendations on from her previous item list? The harvesting tools were definitely nice but they were also dirt cheap when you had 2k+ commendations.

That’s definitely the reason, and it sucks because now I’ll never be able to buy a sufficient quantity of black lion keys to collect the EL tonics (since buying with gems is insanely expensive now). And unfortunately the update made it really easy to get commendations but now there is nothing to do with them.

Actually nevermind, we all know the reasons.

It is preety funny because they said the content will not be disable throughout Wintersday, so i didn’t bother myself to buy Keys BEFORE the actual event…

So yeah, it’s clearly disabled because of that, but it’s kind of lame that they lied about it as an official response

Well we all learned a big lesson here.

The black lion chests don’t have new items do they?

I’m pretty kitten about this right now. I was heading off to fill up on some Black Lion keys, and opened a bunch of commendation boxes just before I got to the NPC. Now I’m stuck with thousands of commendation tokens in my inventory, which is crippling my character until the NPC opens back up.

I really hope they dont change/remove the keys from her because i had made 3000 crates of commendations right before the patch went live.. Would be really upsetting because that was alot of gold i had farmed that went into making those

yeah I just made 250 crates, if those keys aren’t 285 commendation tokens, I’m going to cry.

Would be nice of Anet to tell us why….

Looks like arenanet dodged the question pretty well that prevented them from lying. Black Lion Keys are their biggest income, I figured the tokens to keys exchange would’ve been nerfed a long time ago and found it weird to be in the game at all. Good for them. More people buying gems = more support = more new updates

DURING
any normal person would translate that as “throughout”, hence all of the misquoting I’ve seen. Their legal department no doubt translates that as “at some point in time but not the entire time” (for example: the last 10 minutes of Jan 3rd?).

As a game developer myself, I can offer this suggestion: On release of new content, the price is often inflated because there is an expected surge of interest and buying. Then, when activity goes down, they offer a ‘sale’ to the real price to increase the buying.
Meaning: remove the items-for-keys cheaper price at first so people buy keys with money for the updated chests, then add it back once excitement over it slows.
Guess they didn’t realize how stealthily they did this; everyone went and bought a bunch of commendations instead of gems without knowing they couldn’t be used.

Then again, they could just be of the opinion that items-for-keys was a bad idea and are removing it completely. But if this was the case, they would just remove keys from Lyns, not all of Lyns. It is because of this that I believe they are not /just/ removing keys – they are likely adding wintersday items. (they might still remove keys, but I would bet they have other plans for Lyns). There needs to be some sort of continuously needed item bought with commendations, otherwise that entire feature would be useless

Doesn’t change the fact that I’m not particularly impressed with the whole situation and wish Lyns would hurry up and restock (or at least Anet could tell us what is going on). :*(
