Suggestion:
Commander transfer item.
That would be very welcome, sold for gems!

I’m a bit confused about what you’re actually suggesting, but it sounds like you want a way to transfer commander status from one character to another?

If so, I don’t really see any reason why not to have an item like this. I seriously doubt that players purchasing multiple Compendiums for multiple characters is going on to any real extent, so there’s not any kind of money sink aspect that would be negated.

But still in my mind, the Comander Tome should be bought with Honor Badges, and not gold. Someone that has never been to WvW can just buy one and play Commander without a clue of what he’s doing.

Badges are too easily gained from the jump puzzles, and people have already bought them for 100g. I think what we need is a visible distinguisher based on WvW achievements. Perhaps hovering over the commander icon on the map should show the commander’s total achievement points earned from WvW achievements.

I suggest making the commander title account bound, meaning all character you have will have an option to command… It makes sense since it’s still the same person commanding just on a different character. And for those who have already bought more than one commander tome, refund them the extra gold.

Also why not add a second requirement for commanders? Maybe… 1,000 badges of honor from Wvwvw to prove that they kind of know what they are doing? Rather than it showing how much money a player has to throw around. And for those that already have commander, well they are half way there, they just need to get 1k badges and they can activate their icon again. And for those that want a icon that don’t have one, well they have to dish 100g and 1k badges =).

I have one friend who has four commander tomes, and the other one has three. They blatantly purchase thousands in third party gold, so I’m waiting for the day they get banned. My point here is that, the people who would maybe buy multiple commander tomes are likely those ascribing to the “easy come, easy go” mindset that comes with purchased gold. Hell, at least its a gold sink for those abusers.

Well, with badges it at least prove one has been to WvW. Even if you only do JP, that will take a while to get all the badges (imagining the tome costs 1k), and you’ll have a few encounters and end up participating in defending/attacking eventually. 100g is also easily attainable, and makes it that it can be bought by someone who has never been to WvW before.

p.s.(I know it flaws on the logic of “why would someone who has never been to WvW buy a Commanders Tome?”, but it’s a possible universe, which is ridiculous.

The achievement is cool, but again, in what sense 100g is harder than, lets suppose, 1000 badges? And it shouldn’t be hard to refund those who already bought it.

My suggestion might not have been the perfect one or the right way to go, but the logic behind it is still valid. Becoming a Commander should be done by achieving the status in WvW, and not just by money.

p.s. A little bit apart from the subject, another thing that would be great is if commanders icons were to be shown in WvW only. Can’t really see a point in all those icons on the map sitting in LA.
