Suggestion for Gem Prices
The gem store shouldnt be balanced around those who are not supporting the game further with IGPs.
A higher gem price is better, as it entices more people to spend gems, aswell as being more beneficial to those who purchase gems to trade into gold.

One could argue that the gem store prices are already capped, by real world money. The price of 800 gems for real money haven’t changed since the game came out. So what you are actually arguing for is ANet to make it more convenient for people to get gems for free. Since the sale of gems for real money is a substantial part of their profits now and since one of the reasons people buy gems with money is to get gold, then deceasing the amount of gold people get for the sale of gems decreases the amount of gems bought with money. Your suggestion would decrease ANet’s profits.
So why should ANet do what you suggest OP? For this suggestion to be taken seriously by them you would need an argument how it benefits them, not just how it would be nice for the players to get more free stuff.
I’m suggesting this to make the game in accordance with the spirit of anti-farm and grind as it should be, and to avoid it to go even further in the wrong direction of cash-kitten games.
What spirit of anti-farm/anti-grind? It is obvious at this point that GW2 is becoming/has become a grindy game. Certainly not as kittenome games, but still grindy in it’s own right.
Also, as was said above, anet has no motivation to do what you ask as gem sales are what drive anet’s profits. You should just be happy that you are even allowed to convert gold to gems.
The only reason it’s grindy for you is you don’t want to spend any real money. Don’t blame you for it but that’s always been the trade off.

This is what I’m fighting for since pre-release…
AN has a statement on “FREE market” which isn’t really free now, just abused/exploited/mainipulated.
However, since Anet not selling things straight and not using GemStore as well as should, the grey market rising & it becames more and more sweet candy to the people who really wanted to just have fun instead of suffering for things. But we’ll se…
The tendency of upgrades aren’t on the side of grindless playing anyway……………………………………………………………………………………………………………..!!!!!

Shame on you, guys.
I try to suggest things that would make this game more like a game and less like an economy simulator, especially for players, and what I get are answers that can only state “This is a bad choice because there’s no profit for devs”.
Well, excuse me, but devs are already making a lot of profit with all their advertising campaign about the game being released in other countries, novels, promotional staff in general; consider also that the game is supposed to care about casual players in the first place because this was their main target, and only after them they can consider other playerbases.
Instead what I see it’s just another game that has lost most of its way so I hope that at least they could stress things off by being less greedy at Anet and creating advantages for casual players as well and the playerbase as a whole.
I’m ready to swear that even with this system I’m proposing, people would still pay real money on the spot to get gems. Infact I don’t want my system to give us everything, but to make the effort more easily accesible and determined, so casuals don’t have to see most of the game content locked because of their lack fo time to dedicate to the grind.
From the other side, the current gold to gems ratio is too low to be worth buying gold (at least to me). 4.5g is just not worth a dollar.
I think part of the problem could be fixed if they just closed the gap between the two numbers. Perhaps 30% is too much. (I note that every other transaction has only a 15% tax)
Also… there is plenty of shame to go around. You are only thinking of yourself. How can you get more gem store goodies without spending real cash, and therefore are only interested in the player base that is like you.
Come up with a solution that a) doesn’t hurt the economy b) provides gem buyers with more value c) provides gem sellers with more value and d) doesn’t hurt ANet.
The capping solution provides less incentive to buy gems, which hurts ANet, and provides less value for the gems you have, which hurts players who buy gold (thought the gem store, of course), for the benefit of people with lots of time and gold.

You’re making a suggestion that hurts ANet yet you want ANet to implement your suggestion. If you want ANet to do something then it’s pointless to make a suggestion that actively hurts them. Any suggestion has to be at least neutral in its affect for them. Common sense tells you a business, which is what they are, doesn’t willingly do things that hurts them financially.
I thought about taking example from Dioclezianus: to solve the raising prices problem in the ancient roman empire, he would set from time to time the maximum price permitted to sell things.
So the same could be applied to the Gem / Gold ratio, since right now it doesn’t have much stability and it is doomed to raise even more, penalizing players who don’t want to spend money.
If the gem cap is set, let’s say, to 5 gold = 100 gems, it would still take 40g to get 800 gems, which is a reasonable price for casual players.
This cap could vary, so if Arenanet wants to set it higher in concordance with special events or new additions to the gemstore, it could vary to 10g = 100 gems for the duration of that period, and vary again once it is finished.
Periods could be at their own discretion, but I would suggest to make it around 1-2 months per variation, and the variation could be from a minimum of 1 gold to a maximum of 12g. So even if they would like to set it at higher numbers in a row, there’s still assurance that the number won’t raise.
If people want to buy things immediately, they charge the card (and they will, because most people are impatient), but those who want to use their time to farm can easily do it. On the other hand casual players can log in, run one or two paths, then log out, and little by little they will eventually reach the sum. This would be still possible now, but this suggestion, again, is to rpevent that the gold/gems ratio will raise too much and reach high scales in the future.
I’m suggesting this to make the game in accordance with the spirit of anti-farm and grind as it should be, and to avoid it to go even further in the wrong direction of cash-kitten games.
Sorry, but the current system that relies on Supply and Demand is working perfect as it is now. No changes are needed. If a Casual player would like Gems when the exchange rates are high, they can purchase them with real money.
Gold/Gems conversion is not entirely supply and demand.
This has been explained by devs at one point.
They didn’t go into detail, but they acknowledged that it wasn’t purely supply and demand.
I think there’s probably a minimum rate that it can drop to.
Also, as someone that monetarily supports this game…
I quite prefer the Gem→Gold ratio to be in my favor.
I’m holding out hope that it’ll eventually reach 100 Gems for 10 gold. (By then, Gold→Gem conversions will likely be around 12.5 gold.)
It’s only going to continue to increase with gold inflation.
Otherwise, there’d be no point for people to buy gems.
Well, it’s Supply and Demand based on the levels of each within the pot. Since there’s a finite amount in the pot, the rates at which the pots will be emptied of Gems is so high, no player in their right mind will exchange at that point. Players with Gems will benefit greatly if the scales tip that far though. Turning in 100 Gems for 15 Gold does sound yummy.
The only reason it’s grindy for you is you don’t want to spend any real money. Don’t blame you for it but that’s always been the trade off.
Not sure what your argument is here. You want people to spend 100’s of dollars on gems to convert to gold to buy they stuff they want? I don’t see it as one or the other. I do support the game buy buying gems, albeit I haven’t been so much lately and probably won’t again until they update the areas of the game that I like to play.

You either have a lot of time to play the game, thereby acquiring coin that you can use to buy gems, or you have a life/job and can afford buying these convenience and vanity items by buying gems with real money. We knew this going in. No subscriptions but it had a cash shop. The fact they generously let us take ingame currency to buy gems is bonus. Of course they use the gold spent here as a means to pay those selling gems as well as yet another gold sink.
Of course if you don’t have time or money, you’re SOL. But if the game didn’t have an exchange and you didn’t have money, you would still be SOL. So it’s a wash.

No. ANet needs money to keep the game running and updates coming. A cap on the ratio would effectively destroy the game in a few years at most.
Is that what you want?
