T5 mats used to be at about 14-16c each a few days ago.
Right now, the price went up extremely! (40c each, thats more than double!)

Is there any reasonable explanation for this?
Are the prices going back down in a few days?

my advice would be to wait. if it goes down again, it was a spike caused by someone buying up all the mats. if not, then that’s the new price

How much of the material supply came from bots ?

Because if bots supplied a significant amount, banning them or causing them to farm elsewhere will drive up prices.

I’d say the best explanation is simply that there was an influx of players for Halloween; since these players would have overwhelmingly been wanting to play and not craft, this would have driven supply of those materials up without a corresponding increase in demand, forcing the prices down.

If you look at those prices, the dip down corresponds strongly to the Halloween period, so I think my explanation is a good one.

Actually, the real explanation is the fact that ecto prices have risen from 12s each to 15s each.

T5 mats are used to make rares which are then salvaged for ectos and put on the TP. As the ecto price rises, the more currency the crafters have to buy crafting materials with.

So why have ecto prices risen, then?

I’ve noticed that I’ve had terrible luck with ecto salvaging lately. I’ve salvaged several dozens of rares with only a handful of ectos to show for it and even 5 or 6 exotics in the last week or two that resulted in no ectos at all – all with black lion or mystic kits. It’s gotten so bad for me that I don’t even try anymore, I just sell all my rares.

Perhaps others are having the same problem and the supply is shrinking.

Edit: if you look on gw2spidy you can actually see that volume has been dwindling. Maybe anet did something to the rate.

Guessing there was a wave of bot bans.

As someone who spends a lot of time at the trading post, I can say that a lot of non-Halloween equipment values (not sure about mats) dropped significantly during the Halloween event. What you are likely seeing is that now more people are back to paying more attention to regular items.

Ecto prices increase for 1 of 3 reasons:
1) Supply decreased
2) Demand increased
3) Both of the above

If u look someone rich got sick of the dropping ecto prices and bought them all up and relisted them at 15s, as an answer to the prices of ecto rising. Its been happening for weeks on hundreds of different items, buy em up and relist=easy money. you can do the same with almost anything.

To those who just realize this, (Mind blown)

I think it’s because the precursor prices have risen so high, some people must be buying up the t5 mats to craft rares to gamble on the mystic forge.

Someone in the crafting forum speculated that people were hoarding mats for potential changes to precursors or other items that might be added in the 15th patch.

It appears the bulk of the supply in a lot of these mats were relisted on the TP at a significantly higher price, but I honestly think that’s just expensive storage. If I bought 3000 large claws for speculation, I’d store them on the TP too since 5% of 9g is only 45s

and that’s a LOT cheaper than 12 bank slots.
