TP gold to gem list suggestion
Well unless you have the code in front of you, you don’t know if it’s a one line change now do you?
RIP City of Heroes
I did actually have a look at that code earlier, I did change it, and I did verify that it worked with different values. As a proof of concept, I bought 10 gems for gold.
The UI showed properly, the exchange rates were correct, the preview was right, the lists and message boxes were showing correctly, and even the cute little “counting up your new gems” animation worked perfectly.
So yes, it’s indeed a one line change.

That won’t happen because the change was meant as a way to farm gold and money off of the community at a greater rate than normal. Call it “exploiting” the community if you will. I won’t call it that, but to each their own.

I’m not so sure you understand what you’re talking about. Unless you’re saying that you’re part of the Anet QA team testing the new code, so you have first hand knowledge of the in-house dev tools being used?

It uses https://exchange-fra-live.ncplatform.net/ page, the source has a section that says this:
GW2.config = {"embedOrigins":[".fatfoogoo.com",".ncplatform.net","buy.guildwars2.com"],"offers":{"gems2gold":[2500000,1000000,500000,100000,10000],"gold2gems":[2000,1200,800,400]},"blockNewAccountHours":72,"features":{"siteEnabled":true,"allowStub":false,"gold2gems":true,"gems2gold":true}}
The part that says "gold2gems":[2000,1200,800,400] actually decides what the UI shows. I altered that list, and the UI behaved perfectly with the new values.
They should hire you if you can make code changes so easily.
Currency exchange was fine as it was, there doesnt even need to be set values for the gems.
They should hire you if you can make code changes so easily.
I’d do it for free if they let me. I wouldn’t even need to change any code, just the data the code uses.
But that won’t happen, for many obvious reasons. So a pointless jab.

+1
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
For once Wanze and I agree +1

The change doesn’t affect money in the least. Gems can only be bought for real-currency in increments of 800, 1,200, 1,600, and similar amounts; this has been the case since launch. The new interface only changed how you convert in-game gold to in-game gems.
And while it’s true that the current UI forces players to convert more than the minimum amount of gold they need to buy a specific item, it can never be more than 400 gems too many — that’s just not a lot in the grand scheme of things.
If ANet wanted to suck out the last dollar or Euro from players, there are hundreds of other, more efficient ways to do so. The current UI was nothing more than ANet over-simplifying the needs of consumers and implementing a misguided UI.
Plus, it’s getting adjusted; if they thought it was making them good money, they wouldn’t bother.

Well, Smooth Penguin is a bit of a TP fanboy, so it’s what you would expect.
It’s like what would happen if you said something negative about some whiny kid’s Xbox.
Very interesting… Thanks for the info, Terrasque.
