So I’m a bit fed up with the subscription to play GW2 (everything has become a chore – living story, temporary content, dailies, monthlies, etc.) I’m most annoyed that you have to play every day to get everything, and that’s why I don’t like pay-to-play games, so it spoils the GW2 experience.

I’ve decided to stop playing for a while.
I have about 800 gold and I want to invest it so that when I return I’ll be more rich rather than inflation making me poor.
Current investments:
most of any legendary I decide (just missing some SP, precursor, some other buyable stuff)
40 stacks of Dragon Coffers
8 stacks of Salvageable Aetherized Metal Scrap
3 stacks of Passion Flowers
80 recipes to make the potent potions (such as Potent Master Tuning Crystal)
100k thick leather and silk (probably missed the optimal time to sell these, but oh well, hopefully they’ll be worth 40c+ in the future)
a few stacks of random items that I bought for 1c above market price, such as slabs of red meat

What should I invest the remaining 800 gold in?
Like, what is nearly guaranteed to increase in price over the next several months that can be purchased now? and by the most percent. precursors will probably go up, but 600g -> 900g is only 27% profit. I’m sure there are things that will double, triple, quadruple, pentuple, decuple (10x) in price that I’d like to utilize.
Suggestions?

I would just hold on to the gold you never know what will change the market and you could lose big picking the wrong thing.

Could be. I’m one of those people who just enjoys being rich, then play the game for the sake of playing it. I sell the legendaries I make, I don’t buy every new skin that comes out, I have one set of gear for each character. My biggest splurge was Jormag’s Breath. I’m the same in RL, too, except for the being rich part :P
What could be purchased that would do all the chores for me and leave the fun activities for me to do?

If I suddenly had 800g i’d probably buy character slots and craft level some alts. If I didn’t already have my legendary it’d take a huge chunk out of that(possibly all of the buyable stuff with some luck).

My main currently carries 4 alternate armor sets, a couple trinket sets, and several weapons of each stat type or just different sigils.

I can’t tell you how to have fun but you seem to be missing the point of being rich.

Take a look at cooking ingredients, and then holo dragon wings. Not sure about the cooking ingredients, which are expensive as all hell ATM, but the wings at least should go up decently in a few months

Dragon wings, SAB weapons, candy, coffers.

Pretty much anything that get’s ‘taken’ away.

Just put it all into gems.

I’d go with gems. Precursors are probably also a bad long-term investment since they have confirmed that they are working on the scavenger hunt thing, of which they will give no warning when it’s released. If you’re only going away for a month or two, you’ll be fine. If it’s a year or more, I’d avoid precursors.

Mini pets.
Mini helmed moa more specifically, this guy is going to skyrocket in a few weeks/months since it is not available anymore.

Purchase sigil of generosities. Pliz…

Quartz.

It’s going to explode after the faucet drops to a trickling one node per account per day.

Dunno about quartz but celestial recipes should be pretty firm since no one can make those items for you.

Terrible suggestions here in this thread. Any real investment would never be revealed in public. People jumping on the bandwagon will ruin any chances for profit.

Well, I’m not an expert on investments, but I do know a few things, basically, don’t put all your money into one thing, for example, invest 200g on SAB weapons, 200g on quartz, but wait for a while they’ll keep getting cheaper for now, and steadily get higher after the end of the update, and 200g on gems, you’d still have 200g but those are just in case, like a cushion money, something to fall back on in case the investments go south.

people are just going to tell you what they need to sell quickly to make them selfs profit and by the sound of how you look at things i wouldn’t blame them for trying have you ever played a Mmo your not being forced to play thats your choice and your not paying a subscription Monthly fee of currency this is a game your choice to play daily all if not most mmos have a daily aspect to them if they didn’t people would get bored fast because they could complete the ‘weekly" they need to do in one day dailies keep people hooked go play wow and then tell me you don’t like to play P2P games

Gems. You will take the exchange rate hit, but you will know that they will always float in step with the economy.

…or something even crazier could happen… like them D.R.’ing COF type “same path 200x a day” runs finally which had always been a constant gold farm from day1 almost… Then it would be gold itself that was the golden commodity once again.

anything part of the temporary content I figured would be a safe bet, I just didn’t know a lot of things that were part of it. Are there any dyes only available in this event?
I feel like Quartz isn’t going to go up for a long long time. Does it even have any other use besides upgrading to Charged Quartz? Sure, only 3/day/player after the event, but so long as less than 1/8 of the future population wants celestial armor, there will be more supply than demand.

Mada: I agree, no one would give away huge profit ideas. However, long-term investments are not huge profits. Me buying 3 Mini Helmed Moa Racer increased their price by -3g (yes, it’s gone down). My 700g is not going to change the market in the long term (it barely changed it in the short term). 70,000 gold could. 100% profit after even 1 month is not a very good return in GW2. 10% profit in a day is an ok return (1,844% monthly profit). That’s why discussing long-term investments is not bad for investors.
To give you an idea how I made this much gold and share my secrets: Buy order things like Carrion Pit Fighter Legs of the Pack (level 71 exotic) for 56s, salvage with Mystic SK, sell 0.9 ecto for 16s (after tax), sell 0.8 Superior Rune of the Pack for 93s (after tax). 0.9*16+0.8*93-56-0.63(cost of kit) = 32s profit (57.4%), not counting mithril/ori.

Bobler: Yeah, everything is a choice. I guess the biggest problem is that I’m a completionist, and it’s hard to complete everything when they keep adding things to complete, so you get fed up and discouraged. I’ll probably still check in (and probably find myself completing monthlies/new content…), but no where near the 2-4 hours/day I have been. You know you have a problem when you schedule dailies into your calendar.

CryxTryx: I always thought it’d be funny to be a loan shark in GW2. I give you 100g now, you give me 110g in a week. Hard to enforce, though: can’t exactly push their Asura down some stairs if they didn’t pay up.
