The Bag Market Has No Sinks!
Yeah, it’s wrong. People pay for the Runes of Holding waaaay more than they will ever get from selling bags. The TP is down right now so I can’t check recent prices, but last time I wanted to sell my 10-slot bags they were ridiculously underpriced. I still have them in my bank, saving them for future alts. No reason to sell them in their current state.
Why is this a bad thing? If it sells for under what the materials cost, then buy the bag outright. Its going to be cheaper. Else, don’t expect a profit off an item that everyone is expected to have at one time or another and doesn’t need anymore. They may have purchased a bag already for more than the material prices, then picked up a 15 slot bag and had no use for the old ones. Trying to make a quick buck they sell on the TP for a cheap price. Bags aren’t account bound, so their is going to be some high turnover. Use it then get rid of it.
Extra bags are useful for when you make more characters. Just transfer your old bags to your new character! Instantly more space to hoard stuff.
You were supposed to make cash out of crafting, but it seems most items won’t let you accomplish that.
So many items being sold for less than their material costs…
I don’t ask for high profit, but at least SOME profit.

As the game goes on, more and more bags will be created, but no bags will be destroyed. Once players want to get rid of bags, they’ll just go up on the market. Eventually the market will be flooded with worthless bags because there’s nowhere else for them to go.
Bags should be soulbound after use. Only way they will be worth anything ever.
I don’t think bags should be soulbound after use, I think they should be scavenged, with a chance to get the rune back as if it were an upgrade. That would also make it much easier to make future bags. Runes could be put on the AH, and since there would only be a chance of getting them on scavenge, there would still be a sink for them, and they would be cheaper for those who wanted to craft them, but not ridiculously cheap.
The other things we make can usually be scavenged, why should bags be any different?
Since 3 professions can make bags, and you aren’t really locked in to professions (you can switch back and forth for a fee without losing your progress), is there really a huge market for bags in the first place? I can see them making the highest level ones soulbound but the low level ones shouldn’t be.
I agree with the salvage idea.
I’m happy to wait for bag prices to crash. My 8-slots do me just fine in the meantime. There are vendors everywhere, so I don’t quite understand how so many people have such massive inventory issues. Sell it, salvage it, equip it, or TP it and move on, people!
If you’re a forge junkie and that’s why you hang on to so much stuff, then get a portable forge.
Perhaps there should be a mystic forge recipe for a piece of equipment with a backpack model? One that uses four of the most expensive to make bags? I know the engineer has an option to start with something similar, though I’m sure there’s many players wanting various other ‘supply bag’ cosmetic equipment skins.
Completely agree. Bags need to become soulbound. Either that or create a mechanic for them to be a time-limited thing – for example 3 month durability, then turns into rags or something.
why? Really, ANet wants people to buy bag slots, what better way than to see a lot of nice 10-18 slot bags sitting on the TP for cheap!
Also, you do not need the bags once you are done with them, so sell them cheaply to another player or transfer them to an alt.
Sorry bags are not the money maker they were when the game first released, but really, if you want to make money there are many more ways than bags, which has a finite life even if the bags were bound.
I could agree with an acount bound status once the bag has been used. As it is right now there is a growing flood on the market for bags that is never going to get better.
The way it stands now, the market will be saturated with low sized bags. Lots of people are low level, and as the opening posts mentioned they just get recycled. This isn’t a bad thing for people just starting with low funds. Also, people are crafting and making stuff to level so the low end items are bound to be in huge supply.
However, I do not believe there will be the same issue with high end bags. You buy them and they won’t be replaced.

Crafting makes money in other MMO, thus it is reasonable for you to “assume” the same applies here. When things doesn’t turn out to be what you expect/want, it does not mean it is broken. When crafting is so easy, and 2million players with access to the same market, it is obvious that crafting is not a money maker. Even if you didn’t realize that, some pre-launch post and strategy guide already states that crafting is not a get rich quick scheme…it’s for legendary item.
Having said that, it doesn’t matter either way to me if bags are soul bound or not. Market change, and you can change and get over it. Even if bags are soulbound, trust me, you won’t magically be making a profit out of it with the amount of crafters that can craft bags.
