Simply put: I believe the Tequatl Rising content will be used to re-equilibrate the ecto market at 18-22 silver.

It has already been known that the boss overhaul will substantially increase both the difficulty – and the rewards – of the current crop of world bosses. I believe that this will be used as a subtext for bringing the prices of ectoplasms back down to the “normal” range of 18-22s that has been standard for most of 2013. the past several months. This is of course speculative, but I am thinking that the new boss chests will be dropping rares and exotics at an increased rate, with the possibility of other materials.

Perhaps, but on the same token, these events may be harder, difficult and longer to complete, which will make players want to go pursue more efficient ways of making gold.

I could easily see the Tequatl chain yield a guaranteed daily exotic or higher yes.

Double rare tops, refer to scarlet invasion and it’s 45 min timer.

I certainly hope not. Not because I have anything invested but because that seems like a very hasty move. Do you think the market has actually settled down after the previous update? I don’t think so since I expect the majority will still be working on leveling to 500/making ascended(so that means more ectos being salvaged for dark matter). ANet doesn’t have to make those assumptions. They can just query the servers to see what percentage of people are at >400 and <500. It wouldn’t make sense to be applying any sort of corrections before things settle down.

It might not drop that much but I think it will start to shift the market closer to being 4:5 supply vs. demand as opposed to 1:2 supply vs demand.

I’m sorry, I don’t see how the new content is going to bring ecto prices down to “normal.” The prices are determined by supply and demand – not "prices were about 20s for the last few months so I guess that is now “normal” forever and ever." There is more gold in the system and there is more demand for ecto’s – so I potentially don’t see ecto’s ever going below 20s again unless we have an extreme lull in content. Will they decline? Maybe, but not by a lot…or they could rise even more – especially considering that the Ascended Armor patch is sometime this calendar year, which means it is ~ 3 months or less away. In regards to this content patch, making world bosses “harder” might actually have the opposite effect – people might do them LESS often because of the increase in time commitment vs reward (remember, at least as far as we know, Teq is the only boss outside Karka Queen that is getting revamped rewards) which may actually shrink the ecto supply.

Food for thought.

Changing Teq, Fire Ele, Golem Mark II and Megadestroyer won’t make the supply of rares generated by meta event farming shrink that much to cause a major price fluctuation imo.

I was thinking the opposite, since nobody will be running it after a while since it will be too hard. Might be a downward spike at the beginning just for novelty.

You get those from salvaging exotics…not ectos. Salvaging ectos results in luck for Magic Find.

Also we still don’t know what the rewards of the new Teq will be (at least I don’t think we do). I read somewhere that the dev’s said it’ll be similar to the invasions, but I don’t know if they mean in terms of actual drops or how to get loot (1 X every 25% hp). I mean I currently get 2-3 rares from most world bosses, so unless they start giving a guaranteed exotic and rare I don’t see how they can ramp up the rewards much more (they better not have Teq drop champ bags….).

Either way I’m not looking forward to this update. After the next two weeks Teq will most likely just be the new Karka Queen and totally ignored 95% of the time.

Plus if they are making all of the world bosses harder, why are they not increasing their loot? I mean claw is hardly worth the 20+ min it takes to do the pre event and kill him all for 1 guaranteed rare (still my favorite of the world bosses though). Even maw and FE (which arguably die the fastest) have “longish” pre events when compared to champ farming or dungeon speed runs.

And that’s another reason I don’t see ecto price coming down anytime soon. The 4.2-5.1mil luck needed to max MF will take most people a very long time to get. And ectos >> masterwork >> fine in terms of getting essences of luck.

Also even after the initial rush of getting crafting (x3) to 500, which is a big drain on supply, you still have a drain of 2 ectos/day/account. The same will happen when ascended armor comes out, another 3-4 professions (if jeweler is included) to max to 500 and then most likely another 2 materials that will cost 2 ectos per day to refine.

So unless Teq (and any of the revamped bosses) start dropping ectos in addition to their rares, I doubt the price will ever fall back down anytime soon.

Other than that, I suspect the OP will be right regarding the influx of rares into the economy with the new update, but that that influx will be compensated by the introduction of ascended armor crafting, legendary trinket or backpack crafting (see PAX interview) and salvaging ectos for essences of luck.

ArenaNet’s past changes to events and resources shows that there is a certain ideal range for the prices of some commodities and their supply/demand ratios.

Nope, the difference between now and the last time ectos were 18s is that they now produce essence (and dust ). If they drop much more than their current price they’ll become most cost efficient AND fastest way to increase your MF. I can’t see ectos ever dropping below 26s unless dust becomes overly abundant.

what’s keeping up the ecto price now is the ascended crafting.. that’s all…. it will take some time even after Teq revamp for the price of ectos to go down…. unless of course suddenly rares drop like the greens/blues….
