So the Total Makeover Kit says it “includes exclusive hairstyles/faces/etc.” but I’m a little confused as to how that works exactly…

I understand you’ll only be able to change the appearance of one existing character, but does that mean you’ll only able to use the new content on just that one character, or will the hairstyles/faces/etc. be available for the creation of new characters as well?

Only on that one character. It’s not an unlock

Used and consumed on one character. Any new ones you make will have the same common hairstyles, colors & faces available at creation. You’d need a new total makeover kit for every subsequent character. But you really shouldn’t need one too often, the sliders and existing faces offer enough versatility for customization.
