Recently i am have to the realization that Transmutation charges do not do the same thing as Crystals used to do.
I had this exotic piece of gear, loved the look and it had a good (and expensive!) rune in it. But i got an Ascended version, so i wanted to change out the stats.

Previously i just used a Crystal and tossed in both items, picked the ascended stats but the looks and rune from the old piece of gear. Upgraded stats, with the same look and rune.

Now however, one Charge lets me pick the looks on the Ascended piece of gear. But im still out on my Rune.
So now i either have to buy a new rune, or salvage with BL Salvage Kit to get my rune back and then put that into the new Ascended replacement.

So in short, my Crystals were more functional then the Charges are right now. Perhaps thats also why these Transmutation Charges cost 600 per 25 and the old Transmutation Crystals cost 800 per 25.

Foolishly i turned my Crystals into Charges, not realizing at the time that this was a mistake, as these do not share the same functionality and a Crystal is basicly worth more then a Charge.

Is there anything in place to refund this?

If i want to keep my item yes. But i was already assuming i wasnt, so i can accept losing the old item aslong as the rune and looks carry over to the new item.

And then that extractor is still utterly overpriced. First off, i can restore previous functionality using a Black lion salvage kit which is 300 and has 25 uses instead of 1.

But why should i lose the functionality on my old crystals and then have to pay more to get it back?

Presumably they consider that a fair tradeoff for: 1.) making it so multiple copies of the same skin can be used at will and 2.) creating a “free” space to store any skins, rather than using up bank space.

I don’t know if I agree that that’s a fair tradeoff (eh, maybe, but then I haven’t invested big bucks in rune sets), but I can see it being their justification.

You mean like how we lost the functionality of crafting stations in the same zone as the mystic forge and had to pay more to get it back? But half the people shouted down the people who said it was a slippery slope?

Not similar as the crafting stations previously were a free ingame service. The crystals i had was a service i payed for.
A service for which i payed more for then what it currently cost, a service that was more extensive then what i now get.

So that we can keep it all in a single place and perhaps be able to be heard. The thread has been going for 3 days now and already has 1,500 views. (Hopefully some of which have been Anet Devs and hopefully we can gather a fix for this.)

The Transmutation Crystals/Stones had much more functionality than just moving Skins. It allowed us to move our Runes/Sigils, especially with Karma/WvW gear.

My concern about this is the under lvl80 transmutes, which was cheap until the “Update”, and now it can be done only on the same price. So basicly, keeping your look meanwhile leveling is out of option (or at least kitten expensive).
Its a design flaw. Or straight ripoff. You’r call.

I appreciate your thread aswell to focus on the problem at hand, i hadnt even considered unsalvageable gear.

But i am merely trying to find out if there is anything about a refund on this.

Transmuation Crystals became Transmutation Charges. In a 1-on-1 conversion, but then i was overcharged.
I payed way more for my Transmutation Crystals then what they currently cost.

The key difference between something going on sale and people saying “i payed more” and this, is that here the basic functionality of the item has changed aswell.
And it is simply a worst item.

If they go around changing the things i bought to something else, making it worst and then saying i need to pay extra to get the same functionality i previously had. Thats a bait and switch, and deserving of a refund.

I’ve seen a lot of issues people have been having along these lines and maybe they should of combined the old and new systems instead of this system.

By that, I mean have the crystals and stones as they were, and use transmutation charges to allow the crystals and stones to function. Have the stones be one time use but usable on all level gear, and have the crystals be unlimited(gemstore item unlock) use as long as you have charges. Then sell the charges in the gemstore as they are currently doing.

Basically think of it as an in-game credit card for fashion. lol. The only thing they would need to do for this is change the old UI for the old system to allow access to the wardrobe vault. If you weren’t combining two items, it would work similar to when you used the Grenth Hood or a Hall of Monuments skin, where the skin would be auto-selected in the old systems UI after you chose the skin from the wardrobe. then the stats and rune of the old item would be auto-selected too.

I thought of an additional thing for my idea there. If it were to happen that way, they would need to give out Transmutation Stones along with the charges from city completion.

An idea that fits well with ArenaNet’s mindset of RNG could be that in addition to having the unlimited Transmutation Crystal in the gem store, they could make a special chest.

This chest is called the Transmutation Chest.

This chest always drops a Transmutation Charge. It has a chance to drop the Crystal but only at an extremely low chance. RNG Gods will be happy to not lose their precious Crystal to every player via the T-Chest, players would still be able to map cities for transmutes, and they would have a(very low) chance at the gemstore Crystal. The crystal could then be set to 500 or 1000 gems.

As for it’s bindings.. I would think if it was account bound, it would have to be 1000 or more gems. Soulbound but unlimited use would have to be under 1000 by some amount.
