What would the implications be if Anet would make a gemstore item that could unbind a weapon, or skin from your account?
Ive been seeing alot of asking for an item such as this for unmade legendaries that people got bored of trying to make, or other skins that they didnt want because it wasnt quite what they were expecting it to be.

My theory: severe economic crash causing prices to drop so dramatically anet would have to drop item drop chances in order to balance the surge of items being re-sold in the tpost.

Apart from that, a huge price spike of the gold/gem exchange.

Lots of angry players. Mostly due to the fact that people who unlocked their legendaries can just unbind it and sell it on TP.

This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

Now an item to turn soulbound items to account bound is not a horrific idea.

98% of the items that are Account Bound are that way for a good reason (even if you don’t like it).

An item that unbinds an item would have to be priced for the most expensive thing that could be used for. So it would cost around 2000g and would let you unbind your legendary just so you could then sell it on the TP for 3000g (2550g after tax). It would still give you a profit if you did it on the most expensive things, but it would not be useful for everyday items. Exactly like the upgrade extractor. Oh… and it would overwrite whatever is socketed into it to be whatever the unbound version has socketed.
15,000 gems. would you pay that much to unbind your legendary?
And you just know people would complain about how they could just buy a new legendary for that price, and how it’s too many gems to pay to unbind their Anomaly, etc.

It will never happen.

But the elimination of soul-binding → account binding would be welcome.

This would devaluate alot of account bound items in their functionality, for example ascended gear or the new leveling gear.
Once you have map completion on one character, you could potentially deck out your alts with karma gear from heart vendors without having to complete those hearts on that character.

Good points, but the thing is, exactly how used ARE those leveling gear anyway? I don’t have any access to metrics, but I have the feeling that not many players would bother crafting the Ineffable gear or using the Versatile weapons. Not when you can simply buy Masterwork gear for relatively cheap prices as stopgap gear every 10 or so levels until you reach level 80, upon which point you just jump straight to Exotics.

Likewise, I’m not sure how many players with multiple alts bother with completing Hearts or map completion. I do, because I’m perfectionist that way, but I know many guildies who only bothered map completing on their main. With their alts, they just rushed them to Level 80 via EotM/crafting/Labyrinth farming and skip a lot of Hearts/Vistas etc.

If you buy BiS gear every 10 levels, you will spend spend quite a bit of gold during the leveling process, especially, if you go for rare gear that uses t4 mats. IF I has an altoholic, i would actually make calculations and compare them to the crafting costs of leveling equipment, but im not.

Your second comment was exactly my point. Many people dont bother helping our needy Tyrians and complete their hearts during leveling. Buying their gear for karma is one of the perks of helping them, so i think they shouldnt have access to it via an alt.

That stuff is extremly expensive and it uses also masses of bank space. If it was
something like the heritage items in Champions Online that scale automatically with
your level, so that you only need one set .. then i would maybe use them, but so i
better just use normal blue/green stuff and sell/salvage it after use.

Yeah, if you buy BiS gear, it will indeed cost you. But I question the need to even bother with BiS gear till one hits level 80. Due to the relatively fast pace of leveling in GW2, I find that I generally need to re-gear only a short time after buying my last gear. Thus, it’s a waste to buy Rare/Exotic gear when Fine/Masterworks will do just fine, and you can usually get those for silvers (except, of course, the T4 stuff. Especially Light Armor.)

In the case of my mule, who I decided to get to level 80 so I could park him at World Bosses to farm for the collection trinkets, I was gaining levels so fast that I didn’t even bother buying new gear and just equipped him in whatever blues and greens happened to drop. (He looks hideously dressed, of course, but eh, he’s just a mule.) Once I hit 80, THEN I’ll bother giving him proper Masterwork gear with some attention to runes/sigils. (In the long run, I plan on giving him the Glorious PvP Exotic armor that I’m slowly accumulating. But in the meantime, seeing that most World Bosses are a case of “Show up. Press 1”, I’m not going to bother spending too much on his gear.)

I can’t argue with your second point, I suppose, but I think the fact that karma is shared account wide kinda spoils the whole “I’m selling you gear because I like you!” idea.

Thats what costumes are really good for .. just use them for leveling so you look at
least decent without having to spend transmutation charges
