Q:
AN will get rid of magic find in items. Only way to get MF will be boosters and by salvaging blue and green items.
Will we be able to get the MF things from blue and green items by salavaging them using Copper-fed unlimited salvage kit from gamestore in the future, or not?
(edited by Moderator)
Name: Copper-fed Salvage-o-matic.
Cost: 800 gems
It costs 3 copper per salvage with 10% chance to recover rares and 20% to recover upgrades (i.e. same as a basic salvage kit). The basic salvage kit comes down to 3.52 copper per salvage so this one is 0.52 copper cheaper per salvage. This is assuming you buy them for coins. Basic salvage kit can also be purchased with karma (77 karma each)
Also comes with sound effects of a golem talking when you salvage things.

Additionally, because I am a math geek on the forums (and a troll ingame, wait what?)
At the current market price of Gold -> Gems of 3.61g per 100 gems, it will cost 28.88g to buy this.
The item it mocks costs 88c for 25 uses, meaning 3.52c per use.
At the rate of .52c savings (yes, 0.52c savings per usage), it will take you 555384.615 salvages.
So yes, just like all the other infinite items, this is a convenience item, but it’s much less of a convenience item than the other items (since they pay themselves off a lot faster).
Better get salvaging, folks!
EDIT: Adding comma’s so you can tell just how much: 555,385 (rounded) salvages.
When the account magic find system is implemented, there will be a chance you can acquire account magic find consumables from salvaging both fine and masterwork items.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/
I’ll buy one right now if it’ll have the same chance of dropping these consumables as a better kit.
Ahh, this one is account bound! Time to grab one!
I have to say it sounds extremely annoying
This thing is account bound? Excellent. Can we please have the tools made account bound as well?

I would buy this convinience item on 5 characters if someone from anet would officially tell us which of the descriptions are wrong: Is it supposed to salvage upgrades or will it be nerfed in future?
I’ve never used basic salvage kits, only fine ones (i always have 2 of them in my inventory). If this was a fine salvage kit i would maybe have bought it, but anything less it’s totally unworth it. There’s not a chance i’ll buy this piece of crap they came up with.
My suggestion is that this can be changed in to different modes and the fee for using it changes accordingly, so it takes the place of all the salvage kits out there (except the black lion one). Like i want to use a master salvage kit, change the mode of this item and the fee becomes something like 60c (15s/25)

Very nice! I just did the math myself and used the far more conservative bet that someone would just buy gems rather than convert from gold and I did not use the actual exchange rate just assumed 20 gold per 800 gems which I admit is usually 1-2 gold less than you would receive. I came out with 399,872 uses before breaking even on the cost of not just buying basic salvage kits using a very conservative exchange rate.
Full disclosure, I did round the savings down by dropping the .02 of a copper and calling the savings .5 copper. Obviously I am grossly inaccurate but I gave up on total accuracy when I didn’t check the exchange rate. My math is close enough for me to say this isn’t worth it.
Honestly, unless this gets a pretty good buff there is no way I can ever see buying it. This is leaving aside that if the description is accurate and it has no chance to recover upgrades at all where even a basic kit has a 10 per cent chance… no thank you.
(edited by typhus.7314)
Well, considering I only use Basics for salvaging Whites and Salvageables (not blues or greens… yet), I don’t see the point. Until salvaging greens becomes worth it, missing out on an upgrade doesn’t do anything to me…
Then again, neither does buying this as I still have (just under) 7,500 salvage uses from Lionsguard Lyns.
At the rate that I salvage, it’ll take a few years to break even, much less make money off of this (and that would mean me salvaging greens and blues, because when I salvage blues + whites + salvageables, I go through about 1-2 salvage kits a week).
So let’s say that I salvage everything I get (except Greens, Rares and Exotics). Let’s say I salvage 500 items a week (over-generous salvaging).
It’ll still take me 1111 weeks to break even. If you want that in years, that’s just over 21 years of salvaging.
Thanks for overpricing an item that worse than what we already have, Arenanet. And with that said, I might still buy it just because it says stuff and I’m too rich for my own good. :3
I think this one is not so much for those that want to make a profit, but for those that want to have the convenience of not running out of salvage kits at the least opportune moment… (and no merchant to buy one from …)
I hoped it would be on par with master salvage kit :S
I hoped it would be on par with master salvage kit :S
But then they’d want 60c per use

Probably true. Well fortunately we have gotten a lot of forge stones from AP chests to make the mystic salvage kits…
Anyways a nice spacesaver again.
This item is completely worthless.
You can buy basic salvage kits for karma.
Did you all just forget that?
Oh my that is a good question~
Do we get the ‘Magic Find’ consumables from using the unlimited kit~ ?
I Love Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic
..
but I’d love him more if he (and apparently basic salvage kit) was more basic and less crude.
Salvaged 25k items and wondered why salvage data looked more like my crude salvage kit data than basic salvage kit.
After this I bought 1000 x Tiger’s Eye Copper Stud (blue low lv earring, comes with upgrade (jewel) and guess what? Not 20% chance of recovering upgrades. Not even near. Kinda curious, because I’ve gained 80% recovery rate when I use master salvage kits (instead of just 75%) and I’ve used thousands of them.
Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic: 750 salvages
1129 copper ore ( 150,5% chance to get)
36 Tiger’s Eye Pebble (4,8% chance to get)
Please note how this data (chance to recover upgrade) is along lines of what’s posted on wiki (5%). I was already ready to get on rage mode on forums and complain how we’ve been fooled. Ofcourse I had to do counter test to check how much basic salvage kits drop so I’ve some counter data.
Basic salvage kit: 250 salvages
407 ( 162,8%)
11 ( 4.4%)
Soo… I was ready to complain and have proof to back me up, but my data only shows that chance to recover upgrade is messed up for both basic salvage kit and Salvage-o-Matic.
Someone else with data, feel free to post!
(It costed me some 1-2g to test with earrings after selling copper.)
edit fixed some text that was there 2×.
edit2
Apparently Gems store version description says that “It does not recover upgrades from armor or weapons” but backbag versions says “20% chance of recovering”.
Does this mean that you (Anet) upgraded(downgraded) BASIC SALVAGE KIT to not give upgrades on salvage, by accident, when you added Salvage-o-Matic to gemstore?
(edited by Articluna.4509)
Same as a basic (or less)? Crap. If it were the same as a mystic or even a masters I’d be all over it.
The added sound effect is a dealbreaker for me.

The thing to remember about all unlimited use items (cf. harvesting tools) is that the main thing they are providing is convenience. You are paying money so that you don’t need to manage inventory for those items. As one who has the harvesting tools on two characters and not on the others, I can tell you the level of convenience is huge.
So, the issue at hand is not how “economical” the purchase is, but rather what is the level of ease that it provides in playing the game; and, is that level of ease worth $10.

Finally, need it asap!

According to the gemstore description, it’s somewhere between a crude and basic, but according to Dulfy and the description in the bag, it functions like a basic (recovers upgrades). No one knows if this is intended.
EDIT: Correction, in-game testing a post above yours says the rates are lower than basic, but also that basic’s rates are lower than stated as well.
(edited by Falunel.7645)
To my understanding the situation is:
Both Crude Salvage Kit and Basic Salvage Kit are of basic rarity. However, the new gem store kit is supposed to be an endless Basic Salvage Kit (88c at merchant), but ends up functioning as a Crude Salvage Kit (32c at merchant).
So either there’s a bug or ANET’s needs to word it better..
Hello yall,
i love the convenience of the Kit, but a friend of mine had a pretty good idea to improve the kit, because most people seem not to like it at all. You could give it the option to switch to any kind of Salvage kit with the corresponding cost ofc.
e.g. You tune it in to be like a Masters Salvage kit. It changes the rates and the price to the corresponding few silver.
Let me know what you think of the idea.
I was going to suggest the same thing. Make it so you can dial in the copper cost to increase the grade of kit you want to emulate. This would vastly increase the value of it for me and encourage me to actually buy the thing.
Definitely a convenience item. Using Agent of Entropy and the values from typhus and Esplen it will take somewhere between 11 and 16 years. In reality it would take even longer because I won’t be using it rares or exotics.
That being said I would still buy it if it was equal to a basic kit but not for a crude kit.
Can’t tell which it is right now.

Right now it looks like basic and crude are bugged to be the exact same with a dif amount of uses (See Articluna.4509’s post and the wiki page on salvage kits) so technically it’s both.
If it was the same as a master salvage kit for I would problem buy 1 but this is kind of useless who the hell uses basic slavage kits (useless it’s for cheap leather an such) When salvaging rares and ectos like most people do you want Master Kits.
The real question is will the new Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic be able to salvage the magic find consumables when account bound magic find is implemented? If so will it be at the same rate as other salvage kits?
Info on account MF can be found here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/
Also why make it basic and not fine? I realize they do not want to have Mystic Salvage Kits to lose effectiveness but still…
(edited by XcmGT.3847)
I’m not sure any of the normal kits are working as written.
As an example, Mystic is supposed to have a “25% chance of rarer materials”, yet I only notice about a 5% of ori when salvaging 68+ rares.
Be hilarious if it actually ends up being a Master’s level salvage when it comes to material quantities (and salvaging Greens). Wouldn’t put it past them to hide something like that in its coding just like all the initial confusion when people realized BL Salv kits were giving more Ectos than the description implied.

I bought all 3 infinite harvest tools for my main and have never regretted my purchase for any of them. Wish I had the gold or cash to have gotten them for other toons also, but I didn’t so “meh.”
If this salvaged at a rare or better level, I’d be all over it. The fact that it doesn’t give upgrades and has a low % for rare mats means ill be passing this one by. Buying a couple salvage kits from a nearby merchant when I pass by is far less annoying than having to leave a node to find a merchant to get a tool and return to harvest. I’d rather spend the gems on another bag slot.
Improve this to a dial-able cost/grade feature (pay more copper to improve the kit quality) and ill plop down 800 gems so fast it’ll make your head spin.

It does. The Gem store description is wrong. This was described as “Anet roullette” since we don’t know if the thing will get nerfed later or if it’s even working as good as it should now.

Unlimited use that takes up one inventory slot. Did you just forget that? Not everything is about money.
I am still waiting for mine to start shouting Exterminate! Exterminate! when it salvages stuff…
All the testing I’ve done shows that crude and basic salvage kits do exactly the same thing.
I think this kit is clever. There were real economic costs of making a true infinite use salvage kit; it would distort the trading post market for all salvageable items since players would have different costs associated with salvaging. You could end up with a weird state where players without the infinite kit were encouraged to sell their salvageables to players with the infinite kit.
Putting a charge on each use is a great solution that more or less preserves the market integrity.
I bought one cause its convenient, there is mo RNG involved and as a reward for adding the token wallet.
Anyone test it after the patch? Any changes? Anet did some ninja patches that aren’t in their patch notes…
I asked this question before as well and did not get an answer…I wouldn’t expect one either because they don’t want to reveal their MF plans and would like to cash in on the new gem store item.
I was looking forward to this item until I found out that it talks. No thank you. I don’t want my car telling me my left rear door is open, and I don’t want my salvage kits chatting me up.
I understand it doesn’t recover upgrades (sigil/runes) from armor/weapons, but shouldn’t it hold the possibility of returning more than ONE crafting material when you salvage sometime? The basic salvage kit you can purchase does that but this one doesn’t as far as I have salvage with it. This was not a part of their advertisement.
It recovers upgrades. They need to fix the description.
Source: People on Reddit.
all i know is i wish they would make the description in the TP match the items true use. if i knew it was gonna have the stats of a basic i would never of even bought one. wow i feel like i jus got a scam ran on me. at a saving of .52 copper i should see my return on investment in after i salvage 157,500 items. wow thanks anet. so 2 yrs of salvaging 200 items a day 365 day a yr to make it worth it. can We have a Gem return policy…
I really feel that they should make a gem return on this item. It’s not what was advertised at all. I’m disappointed so far with it.
yea i have no intent to use it, will keep buying 5 fine kits @ a time
Had potential, but being only the level of a basic salvage kit is pointless. Also the talking part seems like it could get annoying too. :/
it almost feels like a scam to me, all the gathering types work as the top teir, and dont cost a thing for uses. now they sell me a junk unlimit piece of crap. so u go from top tier for 800 gems to lowest teir for 800 gems and then they charge you yo use it… give me back 400 gems and take this thing from my bank as thats will it will sit for the rest of my time in gw
Is anyone forgetting the fact that lion trading company says:
“It does not recover upgrades from armor or weapons”
and the inventory description says:
“20% chance of recovering upgrades”
personally I got it cause i thought i would not get runes from salvaging greens… so yeah I got scammed :/
