Looking for an update on the trading post. I first noticed it was down around 1:30. Some one said it was back up at one point but it is down again. Any chance we can get an update. I have been waiting all day to buy/sell some stuff >.>. Well ok most of the day.

The Trading Post is a major part of the game, they need to keep us updated on it’s status. An in-game notice “Down for Maintenance” isn’t considered keeping us informed as to what the problem is or when it’s going to be back up.

The reason it is down is because of the gem store I believe. I heard gem to gold ratio’s changed significantly or something. I assume the whole BLTC goes offline when something like that goes wrong.

Because there was a reason it happened. Someone may have found an exploit and changed it, so thats a pretty huge ordeal finding a fix to an exploit. Or maybe just a huge flux of buys/sells from one side of the exchange that they didnt expect, then they have to have a meeting with all relevant people to decide how it should be fixed, and then get the programmers to fix it, then test it before making it live again to us.

It’s not just as simple as entering xgems = ygold and commit that change to the live environment

I said I heard thats what it was, so I’m not sure. But the amount of time a fix takes depends on whether its something simple thats not a huge deal, or something that a team of developers and management need to have a meeting about, make the change and then test appropriately before throwing it out to the rest of us.

I don’t need it to be simple or complicated. Well I guess I don’t NEED anything, but what I want… and others want is some sort of status update. If there was an exploit. Then tell us. If there is a bug then tell us. An update is an update regardless of how complicated it is.

You will rarely ever get information like that from a private company. Posting that would be admitting to a defect in their product and could effect sales. I agree that I would like such information, but I doubt its coming. We’re lucky we even get a change log.

Not to contradict you Zaron but this is a new game. All new games have issues. And let me tell you SWTOR had its fair share of them. There market place was a JOKE until not long ago. They also had there fair share of bugs.

I do not intend to belittle any of the devs or techs currently working on issues with this game. If something isn’t working I know they will try to fix it ASAP. I was just asking for an update.

Well…The Gem store part of the TP is up, the part for players to buy and sell from other players is still down.

Regardless of what the problem is or was, they still need to take the 30 seconds to do some type of status update.

Some of us don’t use Facebook or Twitter for various reasons, for me, it’s security concerns because I don’t fully trust those sites. Since this is the official forums, updates should be posted here.

Totally agree a AAA game not use there official forum for updates is just bad practice.

Agreed on not using Twitter.
I find the practice of companies using that as a means of communications for important
updates highly annoying.
Forums exist for that. Subsections with system update info is the proper place. Twitter should only be used if for some reason the forum system crashes not as a replacement for proper informational updates on forums.

There is this wonderful “News and Announcements” section at the top of the OFFICIAL FORUM. You also have your own bunnying website.

Why would you think using facebook or twitter, both of whom have serious security concerns, for official status updates is a good idea?

This was infuriating during the betas, and it’s plain unprofessional now.

The game is buggy as hell and now on top of that the trading post has been down all day (other than some small sessions of glitchy uptime) …. seriously the trading post is a vital part of playing for most of us, stop stuffing it up!! leave the crap version that kinda works up while you do your testing on OMG a test server!?!? This should still be in beta, there are so many basic things you’ve messed up or just have no clue about (which in 2012 I didn’t think was possible).

Congratulations on lowering the bar for quality of game on release ArenaNet.

You have an official forum, an official wiki, an official game patcher complete with news, and I am almost certain you have the ability for in game broadcasting.

Why in the 9 hells do you insist on using Facebook and Twitter where part of your userbase will never see such information.

Stop being 12 year old kids texting. 1st stop on the information should be directly to your forums. If you feel you must be “Trendy” and utilize facebook/twitter. Do that after an official post is made in a responsible location.

Even though I use Twitter to check o updates, I agree this should not be happening. I mean..I have ~3 tabs open just to be sure I get the correct state of the game update. There’s an Announcements box on the first page of the forums. What’s that for?
I don’t bash the devs/community managers, the forums have been up until recently so they had to resort to other means. But now that they are up, please, use them for your updates ANet.

And Koroze… If they took TP down there was a reason for it. They are a company which as I recall likes to make money. TP makes them money, well the gem portion. So if they had a workable version I think they would use.

I mean come-on, it’s harder to get unscheduled information in super official visible places on short notice, and it’s not exactly big enough for the launcher.

Not to mention I’m sure some of them worked / are working on it throughout the night instead of going home and sleeping, eating delicious pizza, or watching Adventure Time, which they didn’t have to do.

Acharyn, Clearly you have never been a software developer. I have written enough code and debugged enough customer code to know that when you have 100k+ lines of code (and I would be willing to bet that the TP and Gem Store are 5-10k lines of code alone… without libraries.)

Good luck finding well hidden bugs in that many lines of code. If you want, we can go looking at wordpress or drupal about it. Honestly, the people being somewhat supportive are actually thinking about it, because they look at more then just the ‘it broke scream’ level of it.

Also, The GW2 launch is so much smoother at most levels then a lot of blizzard releases… has everyone forgotten Diablo III? How about the initial release of WoW where Blizzard couldn’t even keep the game ONLINE much less bug free.

Lumiere, did you even read my post. It’s about the unprofessional acts of ANet, not the programming. They have a forum and should announce here, now on Twitter.

-No one forced your hand to buy the $149.00 version. You would have been just as good buying the cheapest. This is a new game and with that you will have bugs and issues as usual.

-This was down for quite sometime before the issues even started with the TP. The issue with the TP I assume to be a separate issue since it started lagging really bad before it crashed.

While I agree that updates should be posted in the official forum, it doesn’t requires you to have a FB or Twitter account to access the information on Facebook and Twitter . There are good information to get from there during downtime, maintenance and other issues. I see no reason to be afraid to make a link to the GW2 Twitter account and check that whenever there is a issue.

Heck, they were posting “Updates” that linked directly to the wiki too. That would be acceptable. Don’t just throw crap on the twitterverse and expect people to know that is the place to look today.

Because more people probably use FB and Twitter than the official forums.

Warhammer Online had their auction house daily crash for several months before they made it functional. It was 2 orders of magnitudes simpler to code than this one.

Games like GW2 or EvE Online rely on their economy not being devastated by those exploits because they immediately turn into massive gems / PLEX damage and that damage directly maps on real money damage for the company.
This is why they bring the TP down at the first sign of something suspicious going on, they really lose money if they don’t.

Problem is that this i so much more than just the trading post. Also last I checked all of the bltc was down, not just the trading post. Although to add, a twitter feed on the front page would be nice.

Saying “x” has done “y” as some form of defence isn’t going to wash.

“These planes used to crash a lot more frequently, so if the one we’re flying on now crashes, it’s OK and you’ll understand why.”

It was down for all my playtime yesterday. It is down when I log in now.

It’s an integral part of the game. I’ll just dump/vendor all the gear/mats/items I have shall I?

I’ll just stay out of pocket with faulty orders on the TP shall I?

If you want to be in a unofficial beta phase for several months then don’t bother on charging us for this content. It is not worth the money I paid. Not even slightly.

While i’d prefer more details on status of TP, and estimated time to fix – I don’t expect that to be repaired immediately. I just hope, that with time, there’ll be less and shorter such periods.

There we go again…it happened in X game so it is all right if it happens in GW2 too.
I am not saying that stuff doesn’t break in MMOS but these excuses are lame.

Ugh, this is exactly the point in time I stopped playing Diablo. Whenkittenparts of the auction house went down for weeks. It’s beyond annoying to be unable to buy what you need or sell what you find. Also I know when the TP comes back online prices are going to crash from everyone selling.

When we don’t get any info all I can do is picture the devs taking down and working on the TP for an hour, then going to sleep / going home for 16 hours. UGH
