Idk if this has been touched upon yet, but here is what I have to say.
So the current price of an upgrade extractor is 250 gems. That costs more than any upgrade (strength runes included).
So I know ANet isn’t selling any of these things. If ANet dropped the Gem price of these to 100 gems, people would use them like crazy.
The only reason why this is an issue now is because back before wardrobe, if you had an expensive upgrade on a weapon you couldn’t salvage, you could use your transmutation stones to transfer the upgrade to the item you wanted. That is not possible now, I am forced to buy another upgrade.
If you drop the price to 100 Gems, I am certain that they would sell like candy. I know I would buy them all the time.
Gem store items are not priced with the gold/gem ratio in mind.
Yes, the extractor is not profitable to buy with gold exchanged to gems, if you want to extract a sigil/rune from unsalvageable armor
Its primary function is to extract INFUSIONS
If it would be cheaper to convert gold to gems, buy the extractor and extract a rune or sigil than buying the rune or sigil from the TP, guess what?
Everybody would do it. And in the process, the gold/gem ratio would rise, while the price on the tp for the rune/sigil would fall until it wouldnt be profitable anymore.

im just looking at this from a business stand point lol. Its not very profitable for THEM to have worthless items that dont sell on the tp.
Yeah it sucks we can’t put upgrades from unsalvageable items onto other gear, but its a win win for them. it would also stop the flipping of the runes to spike the prices.
just saying, for a business out to make money, this would give them something, just like transmutation charges, that would sell ALL the time.

isnt that the point? 100 gems is way more affordable than 250 gems.
even if say strength runes went down to lets say 5g each. thats 35g for a set. youre saying you wouldnt drop 10$ to just take those 6 out and put it on other gear? Unless you had like way extra gold and youre just spewing gold from the mouth.

Ok, when you mentioned that 7 runes are required for a set, i gave you the benefit of the doubt and actually thought you are smart enough to also put a rune on your aqua breather to not lose your 6th stat bonus under water.
Unfortunately, you are just horrible at math.
I will give it a final try of explaination:
Lets assume the extractor gets priced at 100 gems and it costs 10g to get 100 gems.
The rune of strength costs 15g at this point on the tp.
This would mean that everybody would rather pay 10g to buy 100 gems to get an extractor to get a strength rune than paying 15g for it on the tp.
While everybody buys gems with gold now the gold price of gems goes up, so within a day, you need to pay 12.5g to get 100 gems and an upgrade exstractor, while the price for the rune on the tp falls down 12.5g due to added supply and less demand.
You are at square 1 again, GG. You just made buying gems with gold more expensive for the entire player base.
