Alright who did this? Bought all the supply that under 300 is left, and price spiked to a price higher than blood.

Price is unsustainable, but still.

I actually bought 2 stacks 4 days ago on buy order to make 2 ascended backpieces (for 32.99s on buy order). Has nothing to do with the price spike just now but the fact that they filled overnight, shows how volatile the market is.

Not a big surprise. The problem is that arenanet has decided trash mobs should drop no loot and thus crafting materials such as vicious claws are wandering their way towards the one gold each mark (most have recently approached 50 silver each and show no signs of stopping).

With the constant supply of events like wurm, marionette and lions arch that just drop bags or a rare here and there, nobody but the champ train farmers is getting these in anything near level needed to match demand.

Claws usually drop from Icebrood, Skelks, Griffons, Drakes, Risen and Moas.

And high lvl trash mobs of those families still drop Vicious Claws. There just arent that much of those around during recent LS Events.

But why buy up all supply of VC? Speculation? User error?

I would assume speculation. Supply has been pretty much a slow trickle for months now, since almost none of the events in the game drop T6 mats anymore. Luckily demand has been a slow trickle as well since nothing new uses them either.

When new legendary items show up I suspect T6 mats will skyrocket to 1g+ each since there is really very little supply coming in anymore.

But the frequency of those drops was reduced to combat botters nearly a year ago. Farming is not effective insofar as champ trains give you more gold and the drops of T6 than any other gamestyle.

T6 drops are horrendous outside of champ boxes. Period.

Which is something speculators think is coming in the next month or two, cue stockpiling and prices raising. But since it’s a known issue, one of two things (or both) is likely to happen:

1: It will quickly become profitable to farm T6 and heavy bags, sending players to currently abandoned areas for their piece of the pie.

2: The next LS release will feature a way to increase the supply of T6 mats, perhaps reopening the Queen’s Pavilion for champ farming or somesuch.

Anyway, it won’t be a problem beyond the first few weeks, when the impatient players outbid each other in the race to show off their new shinies first and those who are prepared make 1000s of gold from them.

Tolunart is probably right with #2. I can’t imagine they are going to let t6 mats get too out of control. The final story arc will probably involve a mass influx of t6 mats if they are going to be used in the near future.

The demand for T6 will continue for the next 2 weeks (really from the new patch on Tuesday) because it’s so easy to stay in LA. Who wants to port from event to event when they can run in a circle and get 15 events in 45 minutes? Probably longer because players will have to return to high tier farming after the living story and rebuild the supply. I would imagine these will continue to climb.

On a similar note, Elaborate totems are going to hit a price it hasn’t hit before – over 30s.

Doesn’t help that I ended up in a bidding war for them.

It may not be artificial to those that are actually using it which helps cause the price spike. As a crafter, I may only need 30 vicious claws for my armor so paying a premium is a small impact most are willing to take where as the speculator has a vested interest in not only keeping the supply in control (via your bank comment) but also trying to keep the price down while they continue to accumulate.

They can only do this until the supply is actually choked because those that farm it normally for immediate sale are doing living story events to earn their coin. People banking tier 6 are likely speculators or people unaware of what they have but I would guess more of the former. Ultimately, as with any speculation, this one may bite speculators in the kitten because they may have held too much and now have to control how much they re-sell to avoid flooding the market and washing that growth away.

Most definately the latter. Speculators that buy claws for resale later on only hold a fraction of what the general player base has in their collectible tabs. But most of the player base also forgets to cash in/make their supply available when spikes happen becasue they have no idea until they actually need them and check their prices.

Oof. Glad I bought my Vicious Claws for my Ascended backpieces for around 29 silvers and I’m all done with them.

But in any case, supply is slowly creeping back up to normal levels. Prices are taking a while to return to normal though.

Farm Crucible Of Eternity… I get them by the truck load from that dungeon off of trash mobs.

I agree with those who say that the new legendaries will cause complete mayhem. Even if people have been stockpiling these, I don’t think it will help. Just look at the situation with iron ore and the recent backpacks….then multiply that by a considerable scale and boom – meltdown.

Especially as anyone can go out and mine iron ore in large amounts – but tier 6 farming is unreliable and unproductive compared to the legendary shopping list of “250 of everything omglolzors”.

Well, if you listed at kitten you might have made some.

1 hours ago, i posted a buy order for 200 at 34.14s, just to have a full stack again and it filled within 20 minutes. Now someone bought out all claws up to kitten .

Edit: Hmmm, kitten means 45 silver.

I just test sold 20 at 44…..they were gone in half a minute.

Thanks to these recent price spikes, my investments have recovered to make up for the previous losses. I just hope Gossamer rebounds as well.
