I too tried to buy Gems from the site and ran into the issue of my card becoming locked. Angry and frustrated i contacted my bank asking what the hell. they gave me some reason about thinking my card was compromised. they then unlocked it. and it still didnt work. so I called back and said WTH! they said the bank blocked the site due to fraud/questionable practice etc. I then said " I’ll take the risk l, let me in " they said access would be allowed after 1 hour.. . It never happened so waited a day and still got the Error trying to buy Gems, I called my bank asking WTH!. I then reached a gentleman that stated " its not us the bank. but VISA that has blocked all access to this website..
So either ANET needs to tighten security / offer other ways using a different website or whatever. they are going to lose out on alot of money

I must say im disappointed, sad thing is, i just want more bag space. and more character slots for my wife and I. thats not going to happen now

I had basically the same experience except for not being angry over it. Given the amount of account hacking in GW2 and credit card fraud in the world in general, I prefer Anet and my bank err on the side of caution.

I had to wait an extra day for my computer-money shinies. I can deal.

The part about Visa itself blocking all access is troubling. Hopefully the rep was wrong. Are you aware that Anet blocks CC purchases on declined cards? After getting it fixed with the bank you will need to contact GW2 customer support to have the card unblocked.

There are physical cards available at some stores (I’ve seen them at Gamestop), if that is an option for you.
