Yeah, the profitable market for cloth is pretty much done and descending, so people start focusing on jeweling ingredients.

Aren’t those fairly expensive already?
Also unlike some of the other crafting materials cooking ingredients aren’t really in such a messed up state as others. They’ve also released recipes to eat up some of the problematic ones before.

Yeah, if I were to speculate on cooking mats, I’d go for the ones at or near vendor prices and that match a theme. This could include:

- Berries (e.g. An Essence of Berries Ascended ingredient that requires 250 Blueberries, 250 Strawberries, 250 Blackberries and 250 Raspberries)
- Spices (excluding stuff like Chili Peppers that are already fairly expensive, but more stuff like Black Peppercorns)
- Root Vegetables (the less popular ones like Beets, Turnips, Rutabagas etc.)
- Meat, meat, meat, meat, MEAT (“Charrburger – the meatiest burger ever! Not made with actual Charr meat.”)

Since the metal nodes became available at the gem shop the speculation is that you will need loads of those metals for Level 500 jeweler crafting. Therefore time to horde silver and gold. Both took a huge hit in supply.

You might want to refine that silver, or really any raw material that takes only 2 to refine and has little current crafting worth/value, its liable to get the silk treatment without warning.

Also i’m surprised nobody is screaming insider trading.

It’s not insider trading. It’s a combination of people knowing r500 Jeweler is coming, that it will more than likely use Xunlai Electrum Ingots (which require Silver and Gold), and that ANet has now released a gem store node offering 2/3 of those metals. Speculators put two and two together, and the free market did the rest.

I am quite certain that gold and silver will peek in demand after the patch when everybody hit 500 and starts doing daily timegated crafting.

On a side note, I think that 1 Gold for 100 Silver is a fair price.

It could very well be Gossamer all over again, but if you are going to sell off speculator’s highs, it should be on Sunday/Monday.

I’m unsure if I will sell then or after the patch. I don’t need the gold, either way.

No doubt on grabbing more, I only have 4000 ingots. Happy to double or triple my money though, I want a set of tier 3 cultural human armor.

Honestly, everyone should have seen this coming if you pay attention to the trends of this tier, look at soft wood, iron, linen. The demand has sky-rocketed these prices, don’t blame speculation on that, it’s pure demand/supply. People are getting wise to the potential, ESPECIALLY for silver, to go through the roof. Gold has less room to grow and platinum is pretty high right now anyway.

There’s still time to get into silver and make money…..not much time, but there’s some time.

Plenty of farming spots for soft wood…..has the price deflated more than a couple points? How ‘bout iron? Holding my silver beyond 2 weeks after they introduce ascended jewelry might be pushing it but I cannot see silver doing anything but rising for the foreseeable future. If I am wrong, I really don’t lose much, if anything but the bulk of what I bought was at 40 copper or below, just the last batch I got strayed into the 50 copper range.

Wrong. Look at this from gw2spidy.com:

Sell Price: 83 c

Buy Price: 76 c

Last updated: 31 minutes ago

Supply: 146337
Demand: 584307

Take a REAL good look at those bottom 2 numbers…..I see a three to one discrepancy there. That price is going nowhere but up until supply is equal to or greater than demand……and stop with the speculator hyperbole. They already bought the silver, they aren’t driving the buy price higher, this would be counter productive to making a profit on the item. EDIT: Please note that I said “Buy Price”, not sell price in my statement above.

Yeah speculators get the blame a lot, sometimes rightly so. But I know many that always buy when prices are very low and just keep quiet about it and do so in a manner to not draw attention to it until they have whatever supply they want.
Wait until those late to the tp game come rushing in and profit off of them.
Happens all the time, will continue to happen for those who don’t plan ahead.

Those are quantities on a per unit basis. That doesn’t help us at all because it doesn’t differentiate between 1 player wanting 250 ores and 250 players wanting 1 ore each.

It’s the only number I can produce for actual supply and demand…..I am sure the API may expose a way to see an “average” buy offer but regardless of who is ordering and how many, it still shows us how upside down the commodity is. And let’s also remember that offers require you pay for the item upfront so those orders have been paid for.

So, let’s ignore my numbers completely, in order for the buy price to hover above 75 copper, currently at 80 copper as I post this reply, an offer must be made at that amount in a very large quantity and paid for to lock the price for any period of time due to the turnover of silver.

What’s that number? A thousand? That’s probably just a few minutes worth of activity. 100,000? At 80 copper? That’s not speculators because the price would have to then reach around 1.25 silver to make it worthwhile. That has to be demand driving that price. People crafting and actually using the silver.

Additional demand of 1 extra million here or there can be faked in a few clickies by third party programs.

Demand figures mean absolutely nothing these days. Do not be fooled by fake demand creation and removal. It can literally be created and removed by one guy pushing a few buttons.

Cinnamon Sticks seem like a prime candidate to me.

Chocolate bars and sticks of butter have recovered from the great cookie ingredient deluge, but cinnamon has been in the dumps ever since the karma ingredients were removed. It’s just too common with not a lot of use.

You cannot fake though, the 2million sell listings for silver ore that went down to 200k between christmas and new years unless only one person had them all listed at pulled the sell listings. In that case, it would matter, if he bought them all in the first place.

Yay, even though its only an intermediate ingredient, its used in a lvl 400 recipe.
To be honest, i have no idea what cooking 500 will need most. Stocks seem to be a good bet, as well as omnomberries. For cooking as well as jeweling, i dont think that the big profit will be in the mats needed to lvl to 500, it will be the mats that will be required for time gated crafting afterwards. I have a good guess what it will be for jeweller but i have no idea for cooking and I am a professional chef in real life. I do pretty good on the tp but i wouldnt dare to speculate on cooking ingredients. Over 70 lvl 400 recipes to get you to 500, i doubt that any ingredient will make you as rich as buying the right jeweller items.
there is only 2 opinions i can offer towards cooking 500:

If John Smith makes slabs of red meat valuable at the rate of Dollies being killed without Devon fidling around, i will personally walk across the Atlantic Jesus style and the north american continent to shake his hand and check out if his grill isnt bigger than Colins smile.

And whoever decided to buy up all onions on the tp shortly after release: You are my hero and inspiration, because you had the balls to buy up the whole supply of a material commonly farmed. Thanks for doing the neccessary field work for my profit on the tp today.
